  • When in Lima, the BRT provides the best and quickest connections to different points of the city (yes even better than the metro as the metro only provides coverage in only one section of the city)
Its construction began in the year 2006 during Luis Castañeda Lossio's first period as Mayor of Lima.
It was put into service on July 28, 2010, during the second term of former mayor Luis Castañeda.
On March 18, 2019, the mayor of Lima, Jorge Muñoz announced the expansion work of the Metropolitano line, which consists of the construction of a 12-kilometer road from Naranjal station, in Independencia, to Chimpu Ocllo avenue, in Carabayllo.
This system is similar to the TransMilenio of Bogota, and inspired of the previous system that existed on the city the National Urban Transport Company (In spanish: Empresa Nacional de Transporte Urbano-ENATRU) which was the first urban transport system in Peru, that also even inspired other companies such as the Rede Integrada de Transporte (which started the era of BRT). ~Wikipedia

Central and South American has some of the best and most underrated transit systems in the world. Easily better than the average North American systems.

That system has a headway of 90 seconds to 2 minutes, like the old IRT,always a train/streetcar/ bus in sight! So if you missed one,the next was/is right behind!! Awesome, and worth while to copy 👌! That's the way to run transit, never keep people waiting, and keep the equipment clean, and respect your public 👏! Thank you,Tim,excellent video!!

I covered this in 2012 when it was under one year old. Lima is worth visiting once you have seen more popular places in South America.

Nice video as always! I find it interesting how they use Chinese buses instead of Brazillian buses, like most Latin American BRT systems.

We in "Murica" could learn from this. Instead of calling for evermore lanes for autos.

South America does seem to be good at this stuff. Although my experience of Rio & Niteroi so far hasn't taken me to any true BRT but just some good use of bus lanes and motorway lanes like some routes I Beograd and Bratislava.
