    • Custom Flush Mount Win...
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    This week's episode is flush with fabrication! We're kicking everything off by finishing out our flush mount glass on the twin turbo LSX Chevelle. Last week we installed our flush mount windshield on the front of the car, so naturally, we're moving to the back to do the same to the rear! Once we shaved, welded up, and shaped the metal on the rear windshield, it was time to begin to focus on our bumpers. With flush mount doorhandles and flush mount glass, we couldn't have those stock bumpers protruding from the side of this LS swapped Chevelle. So we're frenching them in. With a little help of the cut off wheel and a little love from the welder, we have a matching front and rear bumper that perfectly follows the body lines of this car. There's still a little more final work that needs to go in to getting the rear bumper 100% but we were getting down to the wire this week. Kyle was anxious to get this video done so that he could fly out with Mike and Andrew to Sonoma for Holley's High Voltage experience, where we'll be taking the tesla swapped C10 truck from a real rip around Sonoma Raceway!

    I have a 71 Cutlass that is pretty much the same car body (A-body), I love the flush windows (never liked the molding) even though it will take forever if I do it. I have my windows out now and just finished cleaning up some bad rust holes which caused it to leak. I had to recreate a section that was pretty bad with some scrap metal i had around the shop along the top rear. Hopefully my windows will be back in next week so I can enjoy some summer drives.
    I do want to flush my bumpers and remove the button bolts so this was super helpful.
    You are killing the details! Everything that owners of these cars wished they did back in the 70s. Unfortunately most people wont notice many of these changes but those who know, know how much work it took to make it so clean.

    @TyinAlaska Před 2 lety +1

    Hi there. Thanks for the great content. I know it's easy to be a know-it-all keyboard worrior, but I would like to respectfully correct you on hot working and cold working.
    These plasticity deformation techniques for metal stregthening/malliagning come from blacksmithing and metallurgy. Hot working is changing a metal's crystalline structure by applying heat and force. Cold working is changing the structure without applying heat and using much more force. When you heat up the metal with a cutting tool, you are indeed hot working the metal, but when you cut the metal without heating it enough to change its structure you're not cold working - you're just cutting. This is because cold working is applying pressure to metal until it deforms to create a new crystalline structure.
    You're totally right though, obviously, that it is an important distinction to cut non-structural components, and components that you don't want deformed with methods that don't heat the metals to their recrystallization temperature.

    • @SalvagetoSavage
      @SalvagetoSavage  Před 2 lety

    I just tried to buy some merch and I kept getting told to select some options before my purchase. All I wanted was a red hat and I couldn’t get it done! I’m not that smart but there’s not too many options to a red hat with no options… I’m happy to support you guys but I’m not going through a detective series to buy a hat. Thanks anyway

      Appreciate you trying, I agree there’s some unnecessary steps there. You have to click the color (red hat in the box) and the box that says one size. Thanks for trying

    Another great video from S2S. Tim, your craftsmanship and creativity are top notch. So glad you figured a way to use stock glass. Question: As you "raise" the window flange up to create the flush glass pocket, it also makes the flange thicker... maybe 1/4" or more. How are you going to configure the flange for trim/upholstery so when viewed from the interior it doesn't look weird? Cheers from Houston.

    Love the videos….but…..please turn off the fans when recording….The whole screen flashes due to the lights thru the fan blades. Or maybe move the lights so there is no shadow from the blades. Thank you!!!

    You do amazing work. Theres only one personal thing that i dont like. I really dont like the 70's because of the tail lights being in the bumper. I would much rather have a 69 Chevelle cuz the tail lights look 100% better the way that they are on the asset then how the 70 put some in the bumper which to me just doesn't look good but thats just my personal like.

      The 69s definitely have cooler taillight placement for sure. Thanks for all the support spike!

    Wasting too much time on trying to flush mount glass. You did all backwards, should’ve flush mounted everything first, then did the paint job. Backwards, time and money wasted. Don’t rush to paint a bathroom door 🚪 or anything else until everything else is fully completed

      We didn’t paint the car, that’s how it came to us. The car will get a paint job when we’re all done! Come on man do you really think we’d paint a car then go backwards and do metal fabrication on it. 😱

      @@SalvagetoSavage I’ve seen worse. People do all types of backwards stuff. But, if you say it came there already painted. I hope you’re not lying to me. I’m gonna be watching 👀

    I've owned and built note than one 70-72 chevelles and I personally think you have ruined that car with the frenched bumpers and ugly door handles. Too bad people have no taste.
