The key to racing is a lack of mechanical sympathy... That's not to say you break the car or ignore warning signs, but you can't feel sorry for it... Hence the Difficulty many have in truly pushing their own vehicles.
Nice video, I will take the tip about braking to my next track day as I have been trying to brake as late as possible, meaning I'm still on the anchors as I turn in. It does make for fun when it unloads the rear tyres as you tip it into the corner though.
It doesn’t matter what Chaz races in Supercars Australia, he is a successful factory BMW Motorsport driver representing 🇦🇺 worldwide. He will end up with team WAU in 2020 since Michael Andretti runs the BMW i Formula E team or maybe a full time driver overseas for the BMW Motorsport family. Forget that Tickford Mustang, DJR/Team Penske have the real factory Ford Performance resources straight out of Detroit. Chaz has the ultimate hook up with the most desirable, innovating & inspiring factory motorsport team in history making Aussies proud driving the coolest car maker on the planet. 🤙👍😎🇦🇺
You guys should upload the in car camera of the 3 durring your runs. all 3 side by side. I bet you will notice something else. Hes looking way further down the track than either of you guys are. Furthest possible horizon is key for high speed stuff.
"Only a second" I mean a second on a one minute lap, especially in a car like that, is a pretty big gap. Same time being a second off a pro is still super solid for an amateur. 🤙
The thing about racing drivers is that they have ZERO mechanical sympathy. They’re not necessarily beating the vehicle, but they are at 9/10-10/10 at all times.
Can't believe how much people in the comments seem to worry about revving cars. Being unsympathetic mechanically is flatfoot shifting, ragging from cold, lugging the engine and overreving (downshift too early).
What are you talking about? In my Dacia Sandero 1.4l 8v petrol (75 hp, 112 Nm), I floor it until at least 5.000 but sometimes 5.500 to the fuel cuttoff point at 6.000 rpm, if I want maximum aceleration. And I am talkng about driving it in traffic like that. That is the only way to get all the power/torque available.
I started getting nervous when Moog seemed reluctant to go on a lap with him. I was thinking "say yes, say yes" and glad he did. Unsure what he'd be afraid of? The guys a pro. I guess Yaris Hilton has a few flaws....
I think the traction thing is called "circle of forces" or "traction circle". If your tires are traight towards direction of driving, then 100% of the braking force can be used until reaching the traction limit, because you have 0% sideway force on the tire surface touching the ground. When you are cornering, the sideway force on the tire effects the maximum braking force that you can apply, until you reach the traction limit. If you exceed that limit, the tires will block. This is all theoretical. Real tyres would have the shape of a mechanical potato, though a highly simplified circle of forces would be an ellipse according to Wikipedia.
I bet if Moog had another go now with those tips he’d be in the 1:06 range. I test cars for a living, and from what I’m seeing Moog seems to be pretty handy - the ability to drive and talk for instance means he’s quite comfortable - he just has a little too much fear (both in going quickly an breaking the car). I imagine if they went in something faster the % difference would be greater, but still good going man. Get a few more lessons from this bloke and you’ll be screaming round.
Interesting to see how much he's shuffling the wheel. It's not something I suggest for beginners, but that just goes to show you that you can be fast in spite of that.
You can't just hold the wheel and cross your arms over if you don't have the steering rack for it. Racing cars have fast steering; the racks are designed to go lock to lock with less than one full rotation - most road cars don't, so shuffling the wheel is not only necessary, but sensible, faster and safer. Only idiots hold onto the wheel and never move their hands.
I once tried the trick "if it's still pulling, don't shift" then hit the rev limiter hard. Needless to say, I lost time and momentum. Lol. He makes it look too easy.
Right Hand Drive (RHD) and Left Hand Drive (LHD) use the same transmissions. If this car was in America, the pedals and wheel would be on the other side but, the shifter stays in the same place. 1st gear is forward and left sitting in the car regardless of where the driver sits.
When I seen your video I was 60 percent braking 10 percent phone angle 30 percent thumb acceleration the momentum pushed though little deceptive with the advertisement but there it is.... Amazing!
That's basically my understanding of tyres too - the less steering input you use to go round the faster you're going, keeps the 100% percenting all of the percents
Chaz has just announced he is leaving the Supercheap auto team. I think he has done this because he was intimidated and needed a way out of every driving this beast again.
moogs face is priceless. in my experience, in circuit racing, you generally always ring out every gear, you never shift early. in drag racing, you'll hear dumb shit like "you don't want to red-line because insert reason" which is just laughable. ive done plenty of drag racing and even track racing, and if you don't ring out ever gear, you are gonna set a slow time.

Why
"If it's still pulling, don't shift". Legendary XD.
"If the speeds still pulling, don't shift."
I can get down with that.
hi MCM, you should let him try all your cars. the result should be interesting.
AKA: How to treat Yaris Hilton right.
Don't bang her gear 😄

I'll apply this new found knowledge to the 56 local roundabouts . Cheers
"if the speed still pulling, don't shift!" That's a T-shirt for Yaris series right there :)

Chaz: "Not today, Yaris... Not today".
Easily the most likeable and fun driver in the field. Such a great talent and a future champion methinks. Fun video fellas, would love to see more!
You should do a lap Now after what he taught you and see would you be any faster??
That was awesome. That there shows you how important your driving line is and if its still pulling, DON'T shift!
Great video. The look on Moog's face during the hot lap.
Have them do it again but with Marty as the passenger to see his reactions.
Moog had a firm grip on the shit stick on the door.
This was great! Wouldn't mind a front-view only split-view comparison of your laps either as it's hard to see what corners are what.
These collaboration videos are sick guys keep it up top content
and he's good at explaining his approach, too. like other folks said: it'd be cool to see him on MCM more
This is one of the best MCM videos I have seen to date. Do not under estimate the appeal of authenticity.
Brilliant insight - great vid.
Oh man I got to fix my cars and go to the track again, Reminded me of how much fun it is out on the Race Track

If Parramatta is full of pro drivers tonight, I now know who to blame...
I love Chaz’ choice of watch.
Nice driving, Chaz monster.
Chaz is very smooth, yet decisive. Smooth is fast.

I’d love to see this thing get some suspension work and go back to the track. Then maybe really go nuts and turbo the nugget!
Im so glad. Im also a bad passenger.
I could always tell Marty and Moog didn’t drive aggressively.

Seeing as he is going to Walkinshaw, Etc, does Supercheap follow him there? I don't know what deal they have with Tickford in that regard.
No, Jack Lebrocq goes into the Supercheap car at Tickford

Turn the Yaris into a track weapon.

That just proves all three of them are damn good drivers, but the yaris had nothing more to give.
thought the yaris would be Dereked today, but i was wrong
i dunno why youd think that lol... stock road cars have sat on limiter for over 10 minutes and still ran afterwards lol
I once tried the trick "if it's still pulling, don't shift" then hit the rev limiter hard. Needless to say, I lost time and momentum. Lol.
He makes it look too easy.
Haha great!
What sort of revs would the car be putting out when he was reving out 2nd?
It was still pulling :o
6.000 rpm or less. Nothing special.
It’s a shame he’s not taking SCA with him to WAU
Is first gear farthest away and top gear closest?
Right Hand Drive (RHD) and Left Hand Drive (LHD) use the same transmissions. If this car was in America, the pedals and wheel would be on the other side but, the shifter stays in the same place. 1st gear is forward and left sitting in the car regardless of where the driver sits.

Easier to ring the neck out of the gear when you dont have to change the gear box if you blow it up 😂😂😂
It is a stock car. The transmission is designed for the maximum power/torque of the engine. Why would it blow...
did you run all these tests with the same fuel load?
Let him drive the Golf R....
Never caught a video this early before.
But you did win the most unoriginal youtube comment for this video.
I didn't realize how wide the gearing was on that car, no wonder it was such a pig on the throttle. I guess that explains the lack of downshifting.
GREAT INFO!! but... next time, could you show us how to drive fast... in a fast CAR as well? ;)
Much harder to be fast in a slow car though.
@@tx5brent yes and no, I bet there would be bigger skill gaps in say an F1 car, or something else as ridiculously fast.
