The Thermocline on Sonar

In this video I am fishing in early summer around a thermocline for catfish. The sonar image of thermocline is very pronounced in this video. You can clearly see on the sonar where the thermocline starts.
Catfishing the thermocline is actually easier than many think. The thermocline actually eliminates a lot of water by making it uninhabitable for the fish. Most water below the thermocline has very little dissolved oxygen, and this is why fish avoid it.
The thermocline is where warmer water separates from cooler water, and it is found in lakes. Fishing near the thermocline can present some challenges, Catfishing the thermocline requires a good sonar unit and the ability to suspend bait above the thermocline waters. Hopefully the information here will help you learn how to catch catfish around a thermocline.
How does the thermocline affect catfish and catfishing? It can make the fish stage and suspend above the thermocline, and generally these fish are not in a feeding mode. So, you may have to look to other areas away from the thermocline to catch feeding fish.
