Disney is on a rampage of “live action” remakes of their classic animated movies, and the latest film on the list is The Lion King. Director Jon Favreau brings to life our favorite characters like Simba, Nala, Timon and Pumbaa in a way that’s… maybe a little too realistic? The movie raises a lot of questions. Like why did they decide to go SO realistic with the visuals? Why did they cut out all the fun cartoony parts? Why is Beyonce hitting so many notes in a single song? They kept it close enough to the original to just be lazy, yet changed it enough to disregard the original and remove most of the magic.
Hit the nail on the head. The way the dialogue was different sounded like they translated the script into a different language then back to English using Google translate. It was just jarring hearing the dialogue be so close to the original yet so off. Like someone who watched it once years ago was task to write the script again from memory.
The butchered version of “Be prepared” in this film is downright disrespectful.
They fucked it up in almost every aspect.

@LTNetjak Maleficent and the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland films also did have a original scripts - only that theirs were bad.
I remember really liking the jungle book 2016 but it probably wasn’t as good as I remembered because I was like 11 years old at the time and I had a pretty bad taste in movies.

There's a reason it sells. I for one enjoy the remakes. Lion king was iffy. But I loved Alladin, Beauty and the beast, jungle book, etc.

@@h.r.9563 That's cause it both Narnia and Detective Pikachu, they went for a stylized approach rather than full on realism in order to give the characters emotions. (Pikachu with a rat's face would've looked horrifying.) They tried to go totally realistic in the new lion king though, and the expressions really suffer from that.
Sonic the Hedgehog is starting to look pretty good about now. LOL
Yeah they went so hard on the realism they forgot the fun of the movie.
The best part of the movie - when all the animals start singing the lion sleeps tonight.
But the rest of the movie feels so slow

On the nail once again. The lack of emotive faces, Beyonce's singing, Be Prepared's build-up, Rafiki's personality, Mufasa in the clouds, taking away so much iconic details from the original
I'm super upset about the be prepared's build up. It wasn't enough and I wasn't prepared for what came next
Rafiki, Timon and Pumbaa were the redeeming features of this version. Rafiki was so cute.

Basically how it happened
One change I did like though was that the hyenas had no previous relationship with Scar, hence why after Mufasa leaves with the cubs and Zazu, the camera pans to Shenzi. Scar uses the "we have a common enemy" approach, then uses it to manipulate them. At the end, it lines up better with the hyenas turning on him, cuz they were never actually "friends" in the first place.
In real life, Hyena troops are lead by a matriarch, so it's great they gave Shenzi that role along with making her larger and imposing, as opposed to just being the "smart one" in the 3 hyena troop.

The abundence of Disney live-action remakes beg a simple question: "Then what?"
Tell us Disney, after you've remade every single one of your animated films into live-action (or an approximation there of), then what are you gonna do? Are you gonna re-animate them and then make those animations into other live-action versions and repeat that cycle until the inevitable collapse of society? This is not a sustainable business model and something has to give.

I don’t get this argument from Indiana Jones. There is so much unbelievable stuff in all the other Indiana Jones movie. They were all based on myths and legends, just suspend your belief like you did for all the other Indiana Jones and enjoy the movie.
