My husband's grandpa was a painter in NOLA-he painted the iron fence around St. Louis Cathedral every year. Anyway, he told my husband that the blue ceiling on a porch tricks wasps and they don't build their nests there.
I always heard from relatives in Alabama that the blue porch ceiling was to confuse spiders and wasps to keep them from living on your ceiling. I guess the idea is they think it’s the sky color..
I saw your cracked pepper in other videos and loved it. I painted the walls behind our large tvs with it. They practically disappear and looked more finished.
Farrow and Ball was sold to a Dutch company a few years ago. What makes their paint high quality is the saturated pigment of each color. I use blue in my decor, but like you I also use black. Never peach, it seems dated. More and more I am drawn toward neutrals mixed with accent color in pillows and accessories that be seasonally changed. Stick with a classic look. It never goes out of style. Thanks, Valentina. Happy New Year.
I used a color very similar to blue nova in my son's room when he was a baby and loved it for a nursery. I can't imagine using peach anywhere except in a bouquet of flowers maybe. I've used cracked pepper at your recommendation in my hall bath and also on a piece of furniture and absolutely love it! So thank you! Happy New Year!
The hard part is next year the colors will be different. Who wants to change their stuff every year? I think find what you like and stick to it. The peach color was paired with a green color in my parents home years ago. Here it is again. No!
My grandmother used to paint every year in her kitchen. We teased her the room was getting smaller and smaller every year and pretty soon can’t walk through. She loved it! I go years and years before I change paint.
No one is saying to repaint every year. Just like fashion changes - so do popular colors but you do what you like. This is for people looking for ideas. Please use common sense.
Cracked Pepper! I got this in 202 in matte! It’s sumptuous. It’s a feature color in one of our kitchens. (I have two kitchens. Long story…) I also use the leftover paint for tree bark in my paintings. We’re on the same page, here! 😁 Not just with Cracked Pepper, but any color. You can use the paint color of your choice that you painted your room in, in a custom painting to match the room - EXACTLY! I do this all the time. It’s a design hack anyone can use to look like a design genius! 😄
One more thing about using the same paint color of your room for a custom painted accent. Using the same color in a different sheen. Say you have the color in matte on the walls. You can get the color in gloss and do a stencil on top for a subtle effect. Or using the other sheen on custom accessories for a touch of contrast, in the same color. Again keeping it subtle.
I used to love peach in my home, but that was in the '80s, and now it just hits me as so dated. I know that styles and colors are cyclical, but for me, I can't get past the green and peach colors of our first home!
We just painted are living room, hallways and kitchen in a color almost exactly the same shade as Upward! It’s stunning! We live at the beach and our house is very coastal! We originally had a coastal yellow for years! It was a huge change but we are in LOVE!
My aunt has had her living/dining room painted a peach colour since I was in elementary school (maybe 1999 ish) and it is seriously cozy the way she has done it. Its withstood all these years and when I think of homes that have inspired me, hers comes to mind.
I concur with other comments - light pastels is way too 1980s for me. My Mom did my bedroom in the 80s with light pastels (without my agreement) and I still have nightmares 😵 yeah...NO! Even as a child I preferred deep, dark colors for decor. I feel white walls are always best as you can add accent walls of black/dark gray or just dark furniture or decor (like in your home, Valentina), but pastels (and flowery prints/decor) just scream childish or old lady to me. Yuck. Under 10 years old, or over 80 years old. My Mom is now 70 and I need an Excedrin when I leave her floral, pink, blue, frilly house! 😆
@npkrn6764, aah, the colors of the '80s! We were so multicolor, pastel and sunny! Who can forget those gorgeous, long Hawaiian blouses. Just watch Magnum PI. Those OP shorts they were everywhere im all the pastel colors of the rainbow!😂 I have to say for clothes I can take the color easier than I can on walls. If you want to do a little accent bathroom or something with a floral wallpaper and pastel trim, that works. Dark colors work just as well. To be honest just do whatever you like. The younger generation don't even remember that time. When the '90s came everyone wore black, white or beige. Got frankly boring after a few years. So do what you like, that's the key. 😄🖖
I just saturated my bedroom with a tan peach fuzz (to which I added a TSP of ruby) and I love how it changes colors throughout the day! The red shows up in low light and PM, with faux riche French decor with cream furniture, bamboo, plants. similar to some ideas here, LOVE it, like candlelight, so do my cats.
I've never really been a fan of blue that much, but these two blue colors are really pretty! I saw some pretty examples of the peach color too. Thanks for the new ideas for paint colors!
No to the peach 🍑, but a very definite yes to the blues 💙, it's my favourite colour . My home is mostly white 🤍, but I am thinking of painting my bedroom a soft mint green, I taking inspiration from a painting by Gabrielle Raaff, which I love and is in my bedroom, it makes me happy to see every day 😊. The colours are greens and blues and they are so calming and serene 😌
Probably because I remember peach interiors, peach is not for me, but I did recently paint my formerly black dining room a beautiful blue-gray over white millwork and I do love the update.
Upward is very close to my favorite SW Faded Flax Flower. I've painted my front door with it (my house is a neutral tan color) and it just pops! Now that I've seen Upward I might just change my front door to this. Peach Fuzz is the 80's and you know how tacky that was.😂 Thank you for your content, you're always inspiring me.❤
This is going to sound weird but I picked out these colors a few years ago and did my entire brand new house in it and I love it!!! I get so many compliments! So with the whitish gray and the blues it’s beautiful!
I just painted my kitchen cabinets Nantucket blue and I love it. All my walls are white and I painted all the interior doors the same blue as the cabinets.
💐Valentina, you are such a beautiful woman! I love the jolliness in your voice and the joy that you produce when you speak and laugh, it’s really endearing. One of the main things I’ve noticed is your beautiful facial wrinkles! Your smile lines, the ones in your forehead, and the crinkle in your eyes and nose- It just shows all of the emotions and beauty that makes you such an attractive and just a woman that looks so put together without all that stiff and puffed up face 💜

Great video V! Also can we bring back "Fridays with V" i always looked forward to that, great jump start to my weekend 😍🤗xo J
Thanks for your upbeat presentation of a seemingly boring topic Valentina! You always inspire me whatever you chat about. Happy new year 🎆 to you and your family. God bless x
You sold me on Upward for my bedroom. I have a lake home and have a beautiful view of the lake from my bedroom window. I have been considering going blue in my bedroom but wasn’t sure of which one to pick. Blue Nova would be too much for this room so Upward is the one.
I absolutely love blue. My bedroom is navy blue with a black wardrobe and the bed has a dark grey bedspread. So it is quite dark, but I pair it with a lot of different lightning, and all the small things are in lighter colors, beige and pinkbrown. I sleep very well, in the dark, and the feeling I get is very embracing and soft. Colors are powerful.
I'm hooked! The color palettes and design suggestions are so modern and chic. I feel like I've got the inside scoop on how to make my space look on-point in the coming year!
Hi Valentina, my lounge is beige and black but I love dark grey kitchens. Please could you do a video on how to make rooms look cohesive throughout a home, if they are not the same colour?
The first blue color is very pretty. Peach has always been my least favorite color, so that one is out for me. I am going to be incorporating Cracked Pepper into my home this year. Thanks Valentina for showing us all these.
I already can’t wait for Peach/Peach Fuzz to go out of style. I hate to see colours go in this direction. That said, I am losing faith in anything Pantone says anymore because if you look back, I don’t really see anything they’ve forecast in the past carrying forward. Just my opinion
Do what you want and follow your own style. Love seeing trends and love to follow them in my way. Trends are a good inspiration. Instead of Forrest green that was trendig before i choose lime green in the living room. Next project is the kitchen in dark grey and peach. Gray is out some says but i dont care
Peach and salmon? Nope. It shows well in some of these rooms but it’s too formal. It doesn’t feel inviting to casual comfort. Upward is GORGEOUS. I would have this in my bedroom. The Behr Cracked Pepper is really nice. I have my accent wall in Behr Graphic Charcoal which is very similar.
I painted my bedroom Blue Nova in 2011, when it was Valspar’s Ticklish 4004 7-C. I was ahead of my time. Although Blue Nova is a lot darker than Ticklish. It’s the same tone though. Ticklish is a great color if you want this color in a lighter feel.
My laundry room and Bathroom is painted very similarly to upward and my big living room a bolder brighter blue than blue nova more like the bold blue of last year. The blue with crisp bright white trim is just beautiful! The rest of my home is very close to cracked pepper mine is a bit lighter and softer than that but that cracked pepper colour is stunning!
Happy New Year! I just love your style.. My husband and i are downsizing and i am trying to decorate my smaller home like yours.. Looking forward to more videos in the New Year❤
I did a faux technique on my bedroom walls like 15 yrs ago using the blue nova color. I accessorize with taupes and creams. It's balanced, not too masculine or feminine. It is a calming color so makes it perfect for the bedroom.
Ironically I painted our bathroom mixing and concocting colors from Behr with Home Depot paint experts because most of the light gray blues were looking purple on my wall. Now, you show us Sherwin Williams Upward. Where were you when I needed you?😅
We live in a beautiful neighborhood where all of the porch ceilings are painted blue. We’re told bugs don’t like it because they think it is water so they won’t dwell there! It does seem to work!
Happy new year Valentina! Our first X-mas in our new coastal appartment was beautiful. I used your colour palette and feel perfectly at home in our new home. Also gets much credit from our norwegian/dutch family. They belive Im good in interior....hehe I just listen to you Valentina! Many thanks 😍
I never know paint trends and ironically used a couple of these colors recently. Sherwin Williams version of the peach called aristocrat peach (I think) is in my bathroom because of what it does for skin tones. It's not easy to find towels to use with it but I do like the warmth of it. My kitchen has a blue very much like the blue topaz with white. I love the upward color but don't know where I would put it.
Love this video and itchy to add some of these colors into my house. Did you get a new mic? It's coming across kind of scratchy when I'm listening in my headphones. I can't wait for your 2024 videos!
I don't know if you'll find this comment but I thought I would ask and get your opinion 😅. I love your aesthetic and I'm currently redoing my living room and choose a color scheme. I adore clean and soft smokey black and vanilla cream. My fireplace is white brick with a smokey black accent wall. I would like to paint a pale warm taupe on my remaining walls, including the trim but I had an idea to try the half wall paint trend. Creamy white at the upper half of the walls/ceiling and the taupe on the bottom - I would extend the taupe across the two doors that are in the room. I would love your thoughts on this, is it too busy, is it not cohesive and visually hectic? I'm so torn! I also considered the pale blue you showed in this video instead of taupe. I love the icy blue and black and it ties into the Scandinavian aesthetic I love. Anyway, love your videos and your style and I'm thrilled I found you.
Our home office is painted Norwegian blue, not sure of the brand, but it looks very similar to these blues shown at the beginning of the video and "color of the year". We have built-in shelves along one wall in there, painted white. The funny thing is we've had this for about 6 years and I was recently thinking of repainting it a more neutral color, like most of our house, but I guess I'll leave it be for now since it's already on trend lol!
I just looked up Norwegian blue. It's by Behr, but we often take paint chips or whatever else we have in a color we like, to Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore and they mix up the paint there to match it. That way if we see a color we like anywhere, we aren't limited to just that brand that carries it, and we can get it in the actual type or brand of paint we choose. Also, when looking up this color, it shows more gray than in person. Our office looks more blue than the paint appears on the paint chip online and a bathroom they show painted in it. Perhaps this could have something to do with having the paint mixed in a different brand?? After the paint store mixes it, it always matches the paint chip we brought in EXACTLY, but this makes me wonder if it's possible for a different brand paint to end up with a slightly different result than the brand who actually carries that color. Or is it just that sometimes paint color ends up looking different than the samples we see because of the lighting in our home vs. the lighting in the sample rooms or even picture quality/color saturation and accuracy in their photos? 🤔 🤔 Hmmm.....
I’ve done 2 homes in blue 25 years apart and no not doing it in this new home. Even though blue is beautiful. Staying neutral with creams, taupes & brown…splashing in some coral red (not orangey) in some accessories. Color drenching is a trend that won’t stay around and those who do it and have limited funds to repaint, they will regret it.
I was ahead of some trends 😅 used Cracker Pepper before it was announced as color of 2024 by Behr and paired it with Blank Canvas by Behr. It came out great in my bedroom and as an accent wall in my son's bedroom. I did 2 coats though. Definitely 'yuck' to Peach Fuzz...i mean, thats like 70s and 80s porn studios 😅 Blue is too light for my taste...love deeper blue, like Navy...
My husband's grandpa was a painter in NOLA-he painted the iron fence around St. Louis Cathedral every year. Anyway, he told my husband that the blue ceiling on a porch tricks wasps and they don't build their nests there.
Good tip!
My father in law said same thing. Lived in Davis IL
I also heard kitchens were painted blue and white because it deters ants!
Blue ceilings work!
Also painted our Bayou Cottage interior Upward. Beautiful!

Is that why these new colours are so tacky? Horrible horrible.
Yuck to the Peach Fuzz. One of the pics had it used on kitchen cabs. So bad imo.
Happy New Year Valentina and Jack! Great colours for 2024. Cant wait to see peach in your house 😀
Back away from the salmon leave it alone it’s too challenging to work with just a thought
I used a color very similar to blue nova in my son's room when he was a baby and loved it for a nursery. I can't imagine using peach anywhere except in a bouquet of flowers maybe. I am just completing an entire house update using your 2022 color pallet, and I absolutely love it!
The Peach fuzz reminds me of my demi-pointe shoes from ballet. That color is probably the trickiest, but when done well it is beautiful.
I can't with the peach fuzz. I'm sorry! They did get this one wrong.
Blue is my favorite color and I do use it in my home just not on the walls. I love blue bedding and pillows. The moody colors are nice as well.
Hard pass on peach. Been there, done that.. peach and mint green..😝 in 1984. 🤦🏻♀️. Love, love, love… blues. 😊
Love your videos. However I’m not feeling the majority of these colors. It’s feels like the 80’s all over again.
Right?!
Her laugh is so contagious, pure positivity, great energy, love your channel ❤
Thank you so much!!
I agree. I love it when she giggles. Her and her husband are adorable together.
Definitely going with SW Upward in my laundry room update. It's huge, and being surrounded by the color will make me so happy!
Cracked Pepper! I got this in 202 in matte! It’s sumptuous. It’s a feature color in one of our kitchens. (I have two kitchens. Long story…)
I also use the leftover paint for tree bark in my paintings. We’re on the same page, here! 😁

My husband and I chose this color last year for our guestroom and guest bath, but haven’t painted yet. Now I can’t wait!!
I don’t think I’ll be painting anything peach anytime soon 🙃
I only like BM upward and B cracked pepper. I like the modern glam organic look. Not into these new pastel colors but more classic colors ❤
They call the porch ceiling blue “haint blue” here in Texas. Yes it keeps wasps from building nests.
Happy New Year 2024! I agree completely with you House of Valentine! I’m enjoy watching you show!😊
I Almost fell over when you said yes to peach
I appreciate you leaving in your “mistakes” when talking, it makes it feel authentic and not overly edited.
I've never really been a fan of blue that much, but these two blue colors are really pretty! I saw some pretty examples of the peach color too. Thanks for the new ideas for paint colors!

I absolutely adore Upward and SW is usually my go to paint brand!
Probably because I remember peach interiors, peach is not for me, but I did recently paint my formerly black dining room a beautiful blue-gray over white millwork and I do love the update.
Love this because I love color.
Love this "carte blanche" philosophy ! thank for your advice, très bonne année 2024 !
Love that you finally mentioned the personalisation of your space.
Upward is very close to my favorite SW Faded Flax Flower. I've painted my front door with it (my house is a neutral tan color) and it just pops! Now that I've seen Upward I might just change my front door to this.
Peach Fuzz is the 80's and you know how tacky that was.😂
Thank you for your content, you're always inspiring me.❤
This is going to sound weird but I picked out these colors a few years ago and did my entire brand new house in it and I love it!!! I get so many compliments! So with the whitish gray and the blues it’s beautiful!
To each their own the only color I liked was upward but as they say you do you and what makes you happy
Loved Friday's with V! ❤
What a treat from my favorite designer. I just had my home painted in simply white. I love it. Thanks!
Thank you Valentina for all the research you do & the quality content you give us. Happy new year to you & the family 🇬🇧❤️xxxx
I’m going for it! I ordered the color, Cracked Pepper 🎉 for my office/glam room makeover!!
Thanks for your upbeat presentation of a seemingly boring topic Valentina!
You always inspire me whatever you chat about.
Happy new year 🎆 to you and your family.
God bless x

Adore the SW color. Imagine it paired with Behr cracked pepper. 🤩
One of my bedrooms is a light SW blue and I think I might try Upward. I love a coastal and calm feeling room.
Ooh, this is my favorite of all your videos! It speaks to me. xxoo
Could you please share why you chose matte shade in black instead of hi gloss for your fireplace wall? On a side note super cute coffee cups.
The first blue color is very pretty. Peach has always been my least favorite color, so that one is out for me. I am going to be incorporating Cracked Pepper into my home this year. Thanks Valentina for showing us all these.
Your energy is contagious and inspiring! Thank you!❤
Yuck to the peach but I’m a lover of dark colors. 😮
Do you paint your trim in a matte finish too?
Love it V!! Let’s have fun in 2024
I already can’t wait for Peach/Peach Fuzz to go out of style. I hate to see colours go in this direction. That said, I am losing faith in anything Pantone says anymore because if you look back, I don’t really see anything they’ve forecast in the past carrying forward. Just my opinion
I don't like the Pantone trend, but I love Behr Cracked Pepper. I'll be using it on my doors.
I love love blue. Loved you pictures and ideas.
Do what you want and follow your own style. Love seeing trends and love to follow them in my way. Trends are a good inspiration. Instead of Forrest green that was trendig before i choose lime green in the living room. Next project is the kitchen in dark grey and peach. Gray is out some says but i dont care
I am partial to black & white but, the blue paint is pretty.
SW Upward is very similar to Silver Strand and Sea Salt . Very versatile color . My dining room color . Against dark woods , it’s stunning,
Peach and salmon?
Great ideas Valentina. Happy New Year to you Jack and your lovely family ❤❤
Happy New Year Valentina. Have a blessed year ahead of you .I enjoy all off it.😊
I think I already have my favorite for this year. 🥰💙
Peach…gag. Never in my house. Cracked Pepper is my cup of tea.
your joy is infectious!
Looking forward to more videos in the New Year❤
Hate them all, seriously. This reminds me of the 80s blue and peach. This is a trend that will not stick around, hopefully.
I did a faux technique on my bedroom walls like 15 yrs ago using the blue nova color. I accessorize with taupes and creams. It's balanced, not too masculine or feminine. It is a calming color so makes it perfect for the bedroom.
Please share your 20 year workout routine! Thank you!!!
Happy New Year HOV family!
Thank you so much. Great colors and great ideas.
Love all the colors except I wont be decorating with the bright colors from Farrow &Ball.
V what do you paint your internal doors in, matt emulsion or satin, or gloss? Thanks😀 x
I love the color upward!!!!
Well done some great design ideas using paint 🎨
Violet+blue=periwinkle
Are YOU adding any of these colors? I’m doing a new kitchen…in black & white😊 love the blues
Nice to see British brands on your channel
Your laugh is infectious ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I never know paint trends and ironically used a couple of these colors recently. Sherwin Williams version of the peach called aristocrat peach (I think) is in my bathroom because of what it does for skin tones. It's not easy to find towels to use with it but I do like the warmth of it. My kitchen has a blue very much like the blue topaz with white. I love the upward color but don't know where I would put it.
When you do colour drenching, do you still do matte on the trim and baseboard or do you use the same colour, but in a semi gloss??
I have this same question…! Still considering it for a living room i just repainted but left mantel and molding white for the time being.
It’s nice to see the variety but I think the only colour that I would use of the ones shown is Cracked Pepper.
I want to know about your coffee cup and saucer. 😊
Can you match upward with the Blue Nova
