- Setting up Bluejay for Mobula7 1S and PID tunes in case you find the tunes a tad too aggressive is in this video. As requested, I hope this video helps in tuning your Mobula7 1S the way you like it and slightly better control with the Bluejay ESC configurator.
I did not really go into specifics but just the basics to get you flying as soon as possible rather than spend more time tuning, although a perfect tune does make the flight more enjoyable, I hope the video helps in any way possible!
About Bluejay
Bluejay is a Blheli_S firmware that supports bidirectional DSHOT which allows you to run RPM filtering on your Blheli_S ESCs. It also allows you to run 24khz, 48khz and 96khz PWM frequency on your quad.

Thank you from the future a year later. Going to watch this a few more times, this is sorting out so much stuff for me right now. The BlueJay tips are great. Plus a baller rip afterwards! Cheers!
hahahhaha glad it was of help bruh!!! Good luck with the set up!!! Have an awesome 2024!!!!
Nice rip. Yey to Bluejay. Nice one. ☺
Haha thanks bruddah. I think i may need some fine tuning for this one
I just got mine in today, got ELRS v3.1.2 working, has the x12 1-2s board, 400mw vtx, and spi ELRS. I bought it mainly for the board, I'm going to rip it as a whoop for a while, but I have a 1s babytooth frame, 1202.5 11,600 hglrc motors and a caddx ant, that's what I want the board for. I have the x12 in a 2s babytooth build and love it. It's a ripper. On the 2s I have 1204 8000kv motors, and caddx baby ratel. By far my favorite toothpick. I just got 5 more ELRS ep2 recievers for my other micros, they all had the XM+ in them. And boy I can feel a difference in latency. My 5" quads and cinewhoops run crossfire, but I'm thinking of getting the dual antenna elrs recievers for them as well, and just keep crossfire on my 4" explorer.
Oh sweeet bruh! Looks like u have ur whole fleet ready for an ELRS update! 🤣🤣 the hardware specs sounds legit! Happy flying bruddah! I know ur gonna have a blast!!
Bluejay & emu on all my 75mm rippers........... big love x
4.3 bf has been a lil bit of a game changer on my 2.5 fleet
Agreed. The HM quads have been on 4.3 for awhile now. Since before the official release. So its pretty awesome coupled with Bluejay. Been awhile since u dropped in! Hope all is good with u
im all about that fruity freestyle bro !!! so sick =) and no more props on the workbench ha ha
haha. I hardly ever take my props off on the bench, even when I'm working on 5 inch quads. I know one of these days I will regret it!
Agreed bruddah! Needs juice! Heheh HAHAHAHH YEEEESS!! Omg scared the shit outta me when i gave it a little throttle.
@@housinit ROFL well, as long as we know whst we’re doing… i gave it a little throttle this one… didnt realize it would punch. Gave me a good scare! Lol
Hey Shogunemperor, love the vids. Question, I've set up bluejay on a few of my quads, but this is the first time I'm hearing that you have to have the motors set to reversed in the configurator. Where did you learn that?
Hey thanks bruh. Well, testing the Bluejay on the mobula7 i realized that when it is set to normal, that specific motor will stutter every now and then, so after much frustration and hair pulling, I accidentally set it to reverse and that stuttering stopped. Kinda accidentally really…..
@@shogunemperor That's super interesting. I'll will take note of that for future troubleshooting. I've never had a stuttering problem like that except with a damaged motor. Thanks for the reply!
@@housinit yeah, ive only encountered it when flashing Bluejay… i thought i had killed an ESC or motor… but when i flashed it back to Blheli_S it worked again. So i derived that it was a firmware issue and found the above. Thanks so much for dropping in bruddah
thanks for the help - I always seem to have idle issues even with full power but it still takes off. Do you think a blue jay flash will be helpful for my other happymodel quads? I have the crux35, crux3 and bassline. I love them so much as is im afraid to change anything lol
hey pleasure bruddah!!! Yeah, the Bluejay will definitely make them fly alot smoother... worst case scenario is u just flash back the Blheli_S. Try it man. If u have any issues with the stuttering motors, its norm as sometimes the firmware causes that. Just bump up the idle speed and u should be gold!
@@shogunemperor OK I'll give it a try - thank you!
Another question - I designed and installed my own canopy for Mobula 7, and purchased/installed GepRC PEANO 50mm U.FL antenna instead of the stock one (significant improvement throughout the whole house, even basement), plus I've installed NEWBEEDRONE AZI 40mm tri-blade propellers (1.5MM HUB). My Mobula 7 came with X12 5-IN-1 AIO flight controller OpenVTX, Input Voltage: 1S, Max Continuous Current: 12A, Motors: 0802 20000KV. Originally the weight was around 25 grams, and now it's around 27-28 grams. Is that too much for these motors/ESC? I just don't want to burn anything for no reason. But I love my new canopy, TPU can stand millions of crashes, hits, any kind of abuse, and it will never break. Original canopy is so brittle and cracks super easy. Thanks in advance for your answer!
its fine,. What lipos are u using? Recommended is 450mah, but i use 650 and 660mah ones. The FC can also take 2S lipo if u swap the motors. U wont burn anything with the 1S
@@shogunemperor - I have these: TATTU R-LINE 500MAH 1S 95C LIPO PH2.0 , 6 of them, and only use those for now.
@@Seii-FPV sweet. Good enough.
thank you
Always a pleasure bruddah!!!
My quad cannot take off the ground after ESCs are flashed. It's in a "runaway" mode which means that motors doing not what FC expects. I was able to fly right after flash operation completed but not after. Going back to Blheli_s, I think I was happy with it
Stick to whatever ur comfortable with bro. And whatever makes you happier. My personal opinion, if it flies well, dont fix it. Hahahaha. I’d rather spend time enjoying the flight rather than the frustrations of troubleshooting.
@Shogunemperor It was a "Maximum Startup Power (protection)" slider. Once I put it to the greatest available value everything was fixed. Super frustrating that it is not available with Blheli but has an effect on it.
@@lomokid 🤦♂️ sorry i didnt picked that up before!! Couldve told u about it! Yes, glad u were troubleshooting it man. We learn something new everyday in this hobby!
Hello Shogunemperor, did enable bidirectional Dshot on the X12 board after installing Bluejay?
hey bro! Yes I did. I think I may have forgotten to add that step in the video...
hey man just a questin, ive lost some of the screws for the board to the frame, where can i get those

Would you recommend flashing BlueJay on the Mobula 7 1S with 0802 20000KV motors? And what settings should I pay attention to especially? I just want it to fly nicely, but to be updated with BlueJay, don't require any special PID tuning or anything like that. Thanks in advance!
You can fly it as is with the BLheli_S. But if you do want to try Bluejay, I recommend using it at 48khz for its PWM and also bump up the idle power to 1100 as this FC is a little sensitive.. you MAY find that your motors will stutter after flashing the Bluejay. Its mainly the firmware issue rather than anything else.
@@shogunemperor - thank you for your kind reply. Yes, I understood that from your video, I just wasn't too sure this value of 1100 was the same for my motors. I'm guessing that value also helps with making a whoop little floatier in normal conditions, if the value is bumped up a little bit. Of course not too much. I will experiment and see, worst case scenario, I can always go back to BLHeli_S and my backed up configuration. I'm just thinking BLHeli_S was last update 2 years ago, development came to a halt it looks like.
@@Seii-FPV hey its a pleasure bruddah. Its what im here for. Yeah, so the number just bring up the idle speed but the rest is still the same. It wont make the whoop floatier. At least from my experience it hasnt
@@shogunemperor - it's amazing! I'd actually love if it's just a little floatier than it is now, not sure what settings would I have to play with in order to find the best spot. I've heard idle would do that, I think JB mentioned it once, but not sure if he was talking about whoops or something else. Anyway... Your thoughts on Quicksilver? Do you by any chance have a video going through all the settings in Quicksilver for Mobula 7, or planning to make one? Thank you a million! Your assistance is priceless. First stop when it comes to these little-feisty-whoops questions :) Thank you!
@@Seii-FPV hmmm… on ur radio… increase the weight of ur throttle on the input page to about 160. But it’ll make the throttle a little more sensitive. Thats what i have on my radio.(my little secret) as for quicksilver… theres a 50/50 chance that it might just brick the FC if done wrongly. So im still on the fence. During my Silverware days we had cheap toy FCs that can be converted. These days FCs are getting expensive
Bro I need your help. My motors are stuttering or won't even start for the most part. And on top some motors are turning the wrong way.
No probs man. What changed did u make to the FC? Just bluejay?
On esc-configurator.com
- increase ramp up to 1105/1205
- check motor direction and motor orientation. Motor 1234 etc on configurator. Make sure lipo is plugged in.
Just a quick question... I just flashed all my ESCs successfully with BlueJay v0.19, but I've noticed as soon as each ESC was flashed, motor direction went to NORMAL from previously picked REVERSED. Even in your video at 1:39 - 1:40 sec mark, your motor number 3 went back to NORMAL... in my case, all 4 went back to NORMAL setting. Is there anything I need to do regarding this? Thank you!
aaah no. So once its flashed its all good. And dont forget to bring up the minimum throttle to 1100
@@shogunemperor - Yes, I did that too as per your suggestion... for some reason quad would suddenly drop from the sky. It looks like rear right motor (motor number 1) would desync or something, which would result in a free fall. You can see it in this video where my daughter was flying it. In three spots mid video towards the end. I went back temporarily to BLHeli_S until I find out what was causing it. Mobula 7 flies amazingly with BLHeli_S on my end. I was really interested to see what BlueJay has to offer. It's this video on my channel: czcams.com/video/KyOgClO4tKc/video.html - first twitch and fall is at 1 minute 20 seconds mark, and there is couple of more after.
@@Seii-FPV interesting. Ur Mobula7 was running on 2S? Is this the 2022 version? Or the 2017 version? It kinda looks like stress from the ESCs or motors. But i cant be too sure. Awesome flying by ur kid. Have been watching ur vids but didnt get a chance to comment ur videos! 😜
@@shogunemperor no, my Mobula never was on 2s. It's Mobula 7 1s version. Edit: It's the newest version, I purchased it just couple of months ago, and it was a new batch. I'm not complaining, that little quad flies on BLHeli_S like a champ. I love it. Lately I fly OddityRC XI25Pro and my 5" builds, but coming back to Mobula is always amazing. I can't believe how much fun they are.
@@Seii-FPV oooh... but yeah... that twitch on ur video when ur kid was flying it is weird. It should not be the case. Maybe contact Happymodel direct? info@happymodel.cn and ask them? They might know what that issue is from all their testing. I havent come across this issue before.
Hi, it is possible to use gemfan propellers 1635x3 on Mobula 7 1s on 0802 motors 20000kv, motors can handle it?
Oh yes of course bro. That would be my preferred choice actually. I prefer the triblades compared to the biblades. The motors definitely can handle. My own setup is with triblades.
@@shogunemperor Thank you, I was not to sure, the motors can handle it, I am new to the woops, mobula 7 on 1s is my favorite quad at the moment, is good fun, thanks for the answer, happy flying
@@witek0206 aye no worries bruh. If u need anything, feel free to drop a comment or join me on my discord channel! And likewise, happy flying my man!!
Can I have the PID tune for the original motors?
Yes bro, its on the Happymodel website
www.happymodel.cn/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Mobula7-1S-ELRS-diff-all.txt
my motors wont startup most of the time with bluejay. any ideas?
Yes sir. Bump up the startup speed. Bluejay still has that bug. Bring it up to 1105
@@shogunemperor thanks 👍🏻
What's the advantage of having Bluejay and bidirectional DSHOT?
ok, so from my personal experience... I always have issues when turning on bidirectional dshot and it almost always have arming issues. So i use Bluejay. Honestly, I found that there's not much difference except smoother movements from Bluejay so I stuck with Bluejay.
@@shogunemperor Isn't the reason for having bluejay over BL_Heli_S that you are able to enable Bidirectional DSHOT? I flashed today and it honestly feels a lot better. Deactivated low pass filters and activated RPM Filters (which require Bidirectional Dshot)
Hello, why 96kHz is not working with mobula 7? Did You try that?
Hey man!!! It does work. And yes I did. But my preference for this size whoop is the 48Khz. Its a personal preference. U can do 96khz if you so prefer. Thanks for dropping by!
@@shogunemperor after i flashed 96khz, the motors were not moving at all, and with 48khz i have some strange wobling during the flight.
Bluejay gives you more control? Are there any other benefits?
Yes, slightly more. At least thats how I feel. Another benefit is that flight times are slightly longer than the standard Blheli_s
@@shogunemperor that's good to know. About how much longer ?
@@masonnordman8258 - "Slightly" probably means couple of seconds tops... if it's a minute, that would be significant and not "slightly" since "normal" flight times with Mobula 1S are couple of minutes anyway.
What 1002 motors are you using and are these the PIDs for them? 2:42
Im using the Happymodel 1002 20,000kv motors bruh, and the PIDs would be the stock Mobula7 ones thats already pre-tuned. I dont usually change them as we've tested the tunes for the Happymodel quads and Happymodel ships them out tuned.
@@shogunemperor oh I didn’t know you’re on the HappyModel dev team! That’s cool. Also I didn’t know the same PIDs would work for both 0802 and 1002. I’m new to FPV.
@@athenovae aaah no. Im one of their Team Pilots. Not a dev. Totally understand bro. I found out about the tunes awhile back when I was lazy to tune with the 1002. LOL
@@shogunemperor still awesome you’re on the team!! What’s your flight time like with 450mah LiPos?
@@athenovae aaww thanks my bro!! Much appreciate ur kind words. Im using 660mah lipos. And im getting around 2 mins-ish. I fly hard and dont conserve power. But on a conservative flight it can go up to about 6 mins.(the fly in circles kind)
This set up for mobula 7 2S still relevan..?
1S Bro. 2S is the older model. Set up for bluejay is the same
Thanks I'll give a try tonight, props on make troubleshooting risky but made better video😂
Heheh sweet bruh! Thanks again for the request!! Hahah yeessss!!!
@@shogunemperor Dude, everything went smooth and i am very happy with the power consumption i got 3min indoor flight with my old 450mah batteries, the 1002 use to last me like 60 or 90 sec at most. only 1 thing I am getting a bit of wobble or vibrations i think on the pitch side very minimal looks like i am driving on a bumpy road. Do you know what could be the cause? and how to reduce it?
@@chopwhoopz niiiiiice! Did u bump up the start up boost for bluejay? Maybe bring it to 1100 first. If it still happens, decrease P for pitch by 5
@@shogunemperor ill test it and let you know thanks
@@chopwhoopz good luck bruh
Bro u made a whole video about how to flash bluejay but u never mentioned why we should do that?? Help us out bro, we're not all experts like u...
Aaah shit!!! I was so focussed on the “HOW” I totally missed the “WHY” OMG 🤦♂️ haha im no expert bruddah, im still learning too… been 4 years… im a slow learner!! ROFL
OK, so basically, running bluejay on the mobula7 will actually help the adding filtering on the ESC-motors communication ie bidirectional dshot which will allow u to use RPM filtering that makes it smoother in flights. Faster communication. Also, with Bluejay u get slightly better flight time
