    Jet engine response time has sure come a long way since my carrier landing training days in the T-2C. Back then you had to move the throttle in response to where you want the power level to be in about 1 to 2 seconds in the future. That made it fun trying to stay on the targeted glide slop to hit the designated wire.

    Man, your videos have such practical quality! I think it'd be a blast to work for Pratt & Whitney. Did you happen to ask them why they don't just incorporate a retractable FOD screen on their engines? That would make a lot of places accessible for our aircrafts in terms of take off and landing. You should do GE next and get a look-see at their adaptive cycle engine.

    • @superskullmaster
      @superskullmaster Před 5 měsíci +8

      I can answer this. As far as turbofan/turbojet engines in general, adding a mesh in the inlet severely reduces performance. This is not as big of an issue on helicopters where ram recovery is not even a consideration. Speaking of stealth, anything in the inlet is a radar cross section that you don’t want and any unnecessary moving parts is weight you can’t get rid of which decreases payload.

      There isn't any technology on F-15EX newer than F-35.
      Engines, Radar, cockpits, airframe, flight control system, and subsystems are generations behind.
      This F135 motor is decades more advanced than F110s.
      F-35's APG-81 is fused with an RF antennae suite distributed all over the airframe like a spy plane, as well as 7 different IR sensors.
      F-35 flight control system is fiber-optic with self-contained electrohydrostatic actuators.
      F-15EX still has hydraulic lines and actuators, though it does have a modernized DFLCS with excellent control logic.
      Man Machine Interface is superior in the F-35 due to minimal switches and buttons, with the HMDS and PCD.

    Yeah you should hear them testing those engines. Sometimes they do it late at night and it shakes your windows. I got to work at the Sikorski hanger and got to see them testing the helicopters, that was pretty cool.

    4:23 Just a heads-up. The F-35A isn't just used for A/A combat. It can do A/G (air to ground) roles as well. The A just basically means Air Force, lol (okay, not officially, but it is the model that the USAF uses). A = Air Force, B = Marine Corps., and C = Navy (C for Carrier is how I remember it, lol).

    Working not far from a Marine air base, I hear those monsters from miles away. They shake buildings and in general don't care if air wants to live peacefully. Such a beast.

    The sharp edges on the 135s nozzle helps with stealth the same thing is done to all the opening parts of the f35s body

    15:28 nice little teaser for the laser weapons they're gonna add to the fighter jets, I'm assuming it will enable the jets to directly fight back against missiles and such, rendering it immune to any threat in the off chance it ever even gets detected and locked on by enemy missiles

    I like how they talked about stealth in passing terms, but if you look at the footage I didn''t notice a single frame where you could see the inlet fan blade shape. They're probably made of unobtanium.

    Even at riat when the f35 was hovering, u could FEEL IT it was so much more vibration than the motorbike that got me to the show, I would've loved to have seen and hear it at full afterburner cuz if it was powerful hovering, imagine what it could do at full throttle, shame it was bad weather

      During testing if it’s like ours, they only move it a few degrees to check it moves freely and to preserve the actuators.

    Dry thrust of F135 is 125 KN, INDIA's need is 110 KN of dry thrust.
    Hope it may happen in near future after collaboration with GE414 Engine deal

    Dude I live 3 miles away from where they test those and jeez those things are loud as hell! That’s true Pratt power right there. 💪🇺🇸
    Side note: They must have hired this guy because there is no way they would show this to other outsiders.

    The Rolls-Royce LiftSystem, together with the F135 engine, is an aircraft propulsion system designed for use in the STOVL variant of the F-35.

    CANT WAIT FOR IT! Is the f22 more powerful combined?

    • @LRRPFco52
      @LRRPFco52 Před 5 měsíci

      Each F119-PW-100 motor provides 35,000lbs of thrust, for a combined total of 70,000lbs.
      The F-22A also weighs more, but still has higher thrust-to-weight ratio due to massive amounts of excess thrust.
      Interestingly though, the F-35A will out drag-race it from 200knots to Mach 1. Then the F-22 will walk away from the F-35A in supersonic regime, where its engines were optimized for supercruise and Mach 2.2 performance.
