This is a cover. The original is by Richard Harris who was an accomplished Actor as well. Donna Summer did a version also. 🤔🥴👍✌️💯
One of the stupidest songs ever covered. ...someone left the cake out in the rain...?
And what a version Donna did.................
Asia & BJ, you’ll love his "Gentle on My Mind", "Galveston" and “Rhinestone Cowboy”!!!
He was a great guitar player who played with the legendary Wrecking Crew.
He had a long running TV variety show called 'The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour'
And he was a real awesome guitar player indeed !
He also did a stint with the Beach Boys as a touring member.
The original version by Richard Harris is the best, to me. I remember when it came out, and I really liked it even as a rock 'n roll teenager in the 60's! This cover isn't bad, and the one by Donna Summer is good, too. Powerful voice! I'm just a traditional kinda guy...age, I guess! Thanks for your interest in this song!
You should watch the July 1977 Live Version with Jimmy Webb and Arthur Fiedler with the Boston Pops orchestra. That by far, beats this version and any other versions for that matter.
Kinda like how Dire Straits did Sultans of Swing better live at Alchemy 1985 than their original recording.
This really took me back. I still have this LP. He was a very versatile performer, and outstanding guitarist.
Glen Campbell played guitar and/or sang backup vocals on over 500 albums in 1963 alone. He was one of the greatest guitarist and singers of our time.
Jimmy Webb wrote this. He and Glen Campbell collaborated on over 100 songs together.
Written by Jimmy Webb, originally sung by Richard Harris in 1968,reaching number two on the Billboard charts. Also ,the Four Tops, Donna Sumner,Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr. and instrumental Maynard Ferguson .
Also Andy Williams, Waylon Jennings, and The Assembled Multitude; and that's just in my playlist. Another great version available on CZcams is from Late Night with David Letterman, with house band member Will Lee taking vocals, and Jimmy Webb himself sitting in on piano.
As noted, this has been covered by several artists. Strongly recommend listening to it by Donna Summer, emotional and really shows off her vocal abilities. Best version in my humble opinion.
It was First recorded by Richard Harris (the Original DUMBLEDOR in the Harry Potter Movies). Richard used a much heavier Instrumentation in His version, with a much more "60's" feel to it!
My favorite version is Glen performing live with Jimmy Webb, probably recorded in the 70's. Glen does a fantastic guitar solo, very inspiring version. On the other hand, I also love Donna Summer's disco take on the song.
Many ppl coveted this song but Glenn Campbell’s voice is so sweet throughout this song
Donna Summer also covered this song, but the best version I remember was sung by Richard Harris. His vocals were so crisp and emotional. Lol, you said it reminded you of a 70's soap opera. I was thinking it reminded me of a 70's film like "Love Story"
Y'all remember "English Bob" from the Clint Eastwood film "Unforgiven", Richard Harris played that character, he sang this song first...
The version i know is Donna summer disco cover.
After knowing that one this seems to be lacking ommph.
I hope asia and bj check it out.
That man could pick a guitar like no other!!!!
This song has been recorded by many people. It was written by Jimmy Webb & was first recorded by Irish actor & singer Richard Harris in 1968. Waylon Jennings did a version in 1969 & Donna Summer covered it in 1978.
Glen Campbell was one of the most talented entertainers & guitarists in the world. He had a lot of hits such as "By the Time I Get To Phoenix", "Wichita Lineman", "Gentle On My Mind", "Dreams Of The Everyday Housewife", "Galveston", "Try A Little Kindness", "Rhinestone Cowboy", etc. Sadly he got Alzheimer's later in life.
My parents loved Glen Campbell💞 I have beautiful memories listening to this one❤
Wow… I don’t think I’ve seen so many comments like this before… it looks like I missed the mark on this one big time. It was one of my favorites of his, and I hoped others would like it too. And Glen is a phenomenal artist that many people love.
Yes, it’s a cover… covers can be nice in their own right.
Yes, Glen Campbell has other better-known songs. But they’ve already played a lot of them.
Yes, the live version is better. But they are unable to play live videos during the live streams.
The live streams are usually based on a theme and songs are chosen based on that theme. Join in on the live streams with us and you will hear some amazing music! And, you can contribute your own song choices for them to hear!
You haven't hear this song until you heard the Four Tops version! Your eyes will swell with tears because it's pure soul.
Joe Osborn on bass and Hal Blaine on drums. 2 legends in the Los Angeles music industry...they played on hundreds of hit records....
Written by Jimmy Webb, who wrote a few of Glen's biggest hits
Really beautiful but I like the Donna Summer version better, it's the one I grew up with. Love to y'all. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for listening
Reminds me of a scene from the movie “Love Story “
The Four Tops ( Levi Stubbs lead ) did the best rendition of this song .
Ive only heard it done by Donna Summers
This was originally done by Richard Harris (Gandalf, Dumbledore, yes that Richard Harris)
Gandalf was Ian McLennon, but he almost played both
Come on “Children” Y’all from (TEXAS), U , gotta do, Galveston
( Glenn Campbell)
“Rhinestone Cowboy “ , ( same)
& I can’t believe Y’all ain’t done
Tanya Tucker
“Texas When I Die “ Daaang 😁😁😁👍👍👍😎😎😎
This song was covered by Donna Summers but, I have to say that I actually like this version best. Glen Campbell is very missed, a great guitarist and talent. Glen put out some really great tunes in his time like, "Galveston", "Wichita Lineman", "Gentle On My Mind", "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" and what I think is my most favorite of all, "Where's The Playground Susie". This was a bit of a surprise, I didn't know he actually did this song, glad I got to hear it and realize that I like it better than Summer's version. Thanks for this reaction, it was awesome!
Classical Gas (instrumental). One of the greatest guitar players ever.
Love how BJ is adamant that it’s the “ Fall Time”, hilarious 😂. Great reaction guys! Loved the song too.
I understand that you both think of walking through a park hand in hand. But what about the fantastic music and Glenn's voice? Jimmy Webb wrote the music and slightly obscure lyrics, the original version was performed by actor Richard Harris.
Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues does a bang-up job on a cover of this song!
I love Glen Campbell but this is Richard Harris' song by one of my favorite composers "Jimmy Webb"
You definitely need to do the Donna Summer version
It is a song about a failed romance. The cake represents the love that was lost The definitive and the best recording of the song is by Richard Harris in my opinion. I think it is a beautiful song and as has been said in other comments Jimmy Webb wrote it,
Donna Summer sang this in the 70s 🎉 😊
How could you guys not do Richard Harris version?
Had never heard Glen's version before... beats the other two i know. (by a bunch).
Donna Summer slays the vocal on her version. Ya gotta listen
I'm more into Rock, but I love Glen Campbell!!!
I learn so much reading the comments . I live Donna Summers version because it’s more in line with my musical taste .
Have been watching old stuff of yours I haven't seen b4 like Rod Stewart stuff. Very cool but I got to see Glen Camble in Toronto when I was about 10 and I am from Detroit. A Great Musician!!! (I am 56 ugh...lol) Alice Cooper and Glen Cambell were very good friends !!!
Fun fact, being in Germany when those versions were released I really thought MacArthur Park would be located in NY !, no joke Much years later I figured out finally that this park is in LA. BTW there were also more unknown version of this lovely song by the Scottish ProgRock band Beggars Opera in 1972.
Gotta do Richard Harris version
So many glen Campbell songs to try…. Start with Wichita lineman
If you two want to see a really cool ass Glen Campbell performance. Check out Glen Campbell performs the William Tell Overture (acoustic). it will blow you away and you should recognize the song. Was used as the theme for The Lone Ranger back in the day. There is an electric version but I think the acoustic is better and more impressive. Andy Williams also has a nice version of this song.
NOT TOOOOOO MANY DID IT LIKE GLEN YOU GUYS, VOICE AND OF COURSE THAT INSANE GUITAR PLAYING!!! 😊 SO I BASICALLYYYY WENT ( FROM GLEN CAMPBELL TO ELTON JOHN ) AND NEVERRRRRR LOOKED BACK, PRETTY FUNNY HUH! 😊 MY PARENTS BOUGHT ME ALL OF GLEN'S LP'S , I WOUND UP WITH HIM BEING MY FAVORITE AS AN 8 YEAR OLD BECAUSE OF HIS GREAT WEEKLY TV SHOW ( THE GLEN CAMPBELL GOODTIME HOUR ) HE'S GOT SEVERAL CLIPS YOU CAN PLAY : WILLIAM TELL OVERTURE ( LONE RANGER ) , HIM & JOHNNY CASH ( GHOST RIDERS IN THE SKY ) , ANYWAY YEAHHHH, ENJOY THE REST OF THE WEEKEND ! 😊
I can't hear this without singing the lyrics to Jurassic Park by Weird Al lol
I could see these floating photographs of these perfect looking people of the Soap operas going all the way back to the 1970's LOL Hahahaha! Good call Asia!
A beautiful love song I would appreciate you reacting to is "If You Get There Before I Do" by Collin Raye. Thank you.
B J looked like a Cake Left Out In The Rain @3:59
A lot of covers of this song. An instrumental by Maynard Ferguson has an awesome trombone solo and cool mix of saxophones in the upbeat section. I don't recommend it for you because his is more than nine minutes long.
Do the 1968 Richard Harris original, and dive into the lyrics.
This song was originally recorded by richard harris, if you listen to his recording, you will find that he didn't have the vocal range to do it justice, and niether do I. Not dissing him, just making a point that glen had more than enough vocal range for any song.
Weird Al does a great spoof called Jurassic Park
If you're going to do a classic song, why wouldn't you do the original version, especially if that song has been covered by dozens of people over the years. Jimmy Webb's beautiful song was first recorded in 1968 by Richard Harris, an actor who was famous for Lawrence of Arabia, Camelot and Harry Potter (Dumbledore) among dozens of others. I love Glen Campbell and many others who have covered it but Harris' is the version that inspired them all. Originals people, originals. Let's go.
Everything you are searching for can be found in Jesus 🙏 God Bless you 🙏
You have to hear him sing if you go away it's one of the saddest songs you'll ever hear 😢
It's a cake!! It's a freakin song about a freakin cake!!! :)
The cake represents a love affair that failed. It is a metaphor.
@@keithm.7335 It's a park!! It's a freakin' song about a freakin park!! :)
And U “GOTTA” , watch True Grit, th original, W/ John Wayne, if U wanna watch th 2nd, 1/ ( th remake “COVER”) , it’s good, but, there’s nuth’n lyke originals. 😁😁😁👍👍👍😎😎😎
Love glen campbell music he has good songs
Can anyone on here tell me when Asia and BJ go Live? I used to get notifications but not anymore. I see these posts but I haven’t seen them go Live in a couple months now. 😢
The Four Tops did a great cover to this song.
Hidden gem

Great cover
💛
You MUST listen to Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb and TIME... Pay close attention to the words of Time...
Gotta be honest never cared for this song by Richard Harris in 68. On a positive note Glen was a very good singer. By the Time I get to Phoenix, Wichita Lineman, Galveston are good songs he was said to be a great guitar player also
Next BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY Fingerstyle cover by Alip Ba Ta new version 2023. please check..
I much prefer the Richard Harris version. It's cheesy also but with better orchestration and wonderful heartfelt vocals.
excellent vocals, but drowned in overproduced backing vocals and instrumentals. needs to be stripped down and redone. (the original version was done by the actor richard harris on an album called 'a tramp shining'.)
Glen's live versions of this really are better....The orchestra is drowning him out, his voice should be front and center. On the live version he shreds the guitar proving he can crush the competition. really background singers are annoying in this, they were NOT needed and only elevated this to...elevator music status...really a corny version, and I'm an old man from that era....but a trained musician. they skipped the entire instrumental section.
I'm a huge Campbell fan...not a fav song though. Glen had an amazing career, so many songs I prefer. Glad you covering him though. Didn't like any versions of the song.
I adore Glen Campbell and had no idea he ever covered this song. Now this is going to make a LOT of people mad, but to ME, this is the worst song of all time! I hated the Richard Harris version and couldn't change the station on the radio fast enough!! Ok.. ready for the hateful comments!
Love you guys, but be honest. This song is sooo BORING.
When are you going to listen to Pal9ma Faith “Only Love Can Hurt Like This” ?
Quite possibly the worst song ever written.
I'll never understand how it became so popular.
Of course, I don't understand how rap became popular either, so whatever.
