In this video I rise to a challenge placed upon my by the guy himself, @MidwinterMinis . He challenged me to build some grimdark scatter terrain for Warhammer 40k, and I obliged! Seriously, this was a super fun project and I challenge YOU to give it a go yourself!

Easy Rollers headquarters is a couple miles from our friendly local gaming store. Those guys make amazing products!
for cheap cutting discs, I do mean cheap, I make my own, here is how:
1. Get a Little Debbie snack cake box (or something similar)
2. A craft 1" circle punch
3. 3/32" hollow punch
Cut about 1.5" strips from the empty box.
Put the strips in the craft punch. You can make about 20-30 in a couple of minutes.
Take the 3/32" hollow punch and put the center mounting hole in the paper disc. This is the mandrel mounting hole, and you are all set.
This friction cuts through PLA and styrene as is. This was with the $7 rotary tool from Harbor Freight.
It is cheaper than regular cutting discs, and you can use the hole punch for making other paper-based items, along with the hollow punch set, they are useful for a variety of materials.
Jeremy: "Weird 1950s retro Buck Rogers look that just isn't grimdark to me."
Adeptus Mechanicus: "How dare you."
I love Adeptus Mechanicus style....but it's nothing like childish 1950s space stuff.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Just paint that piece up in some kind of chrome. It could also be retro-future 1940s art deco style. :P
Not my jam. At least not for this. It would be cool for some sort of Fallout style rpg or skirmish game though.
I was going to say that 1950s retro Buck Rogers + Grimdark = Métal Hurlant. :)
That retrofuturistic atompunk aesthetic seems to work well with Eldar terrain - and a welcome change from empire of men :)
Mid winter minis sent me over yeah you whooped that arse
Sorry Guy and Penny but cheating dosnt prosper
@@RaptorsBlood they had an advantage cause they cheated and yours still looks way better
Both mid minis and BM craft need band saws. They take wayyyyyyyy less time to use than rotary tools. Ps yes they did cheat but they had good reason.
I’m not gonna lie, my first though was “man I wonder how they’re gonna paint with water guns and be effective”
Have you been watching a lot of Jazza?
Black Magic Craft absolutely and unashamedly 🤣
Not gonna lie, I thought the same thing. However I'll now be picking up dollarstore water guns now
*Brainlet:* Edge Highlighting
*Sol Brain:* Dry Brushing
*Galaxy Brain:* Wet Blending
*Universe Brain:* Inq28 Blanchitsu
*Multi-Dimensional 5,000 IQ Brain:* Air Brush with ink washes and detail work done with a tooth pick
*Ork Brain: ABSTRACT IMPRESSIONISM WITH WATER GUNS!!!!*
Haha I also thought something similar
Turned out great. You both took very different approaches but in the end yours is much more playable, which is the winner to me!
I also didn't cheat!........... XD
I dunno based on what they said about playability...
Jacob Hoekman well yeah but they also did cheat.
So we
Can ignore the playability stipulation.
I was actually quite disappointed in Guy's build. I was expecting terrain. I was expecting him to follow his own rules. I was expecting something with depth and usability. He let me down for sure.
YOU ON THE OTHER HAND... You freaking murdered this challenge!!! Absolutely epic!!! What an incredible outcome. Every CZcamsr in this hobby can take notes from your formula. I appreciate you so much Jeremey! Never stop!!!
Yeah if i ever have room for more stuff (if. Tarantulas take up a lot of my free space), I think i'll do this for terrain. Ridiculously nice for the cheap cost.
Casier in a Walmart: "This weird guy keep coming back and buying all of our water pistols -___-"
Walmart? What do you think I am? Some kind of water gun socialite? Dollarama or bust!
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Ahahah :D I love you and your videos!
What about some crazy D&D Underdark terrain before Baldurs gate 3? :) It would be super cool :)
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial target?
Self check out.
I'm getting a Dune feeling form this project. but that's just me, awesome job.
Dune, Arrakis, Desert planet.
Man, I love DUNE....and it seems to be an untapped resource for terrain. Hmmmm....
Black Magic Craft I would love to see some Arrakian builds in the future
Hmmm....dune challenge. Interesting.
I must not fear making terrain. Fear is the mind-killer.
The spice must flow
These turned out super well!! I love the kitbash stuff like this. Its not something I'm personally super creative with but its amazing what a coat of paint can do to make something look like a bit of scifi scenery.
I think the real secret is just being able to look at it while building as though it's painted. If you can visualize everything as one colour while working on it you can come up with a lot more cool things.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Another way to put it is to see shapes, not colour. I was just thinking the same thing.
1:24 i thought that would have been a cool looking crashed spaceship, the yellow piece looks like a cockpit.
Guy cheated, and you knocked this out of the park! :)
I absolutely love the Mad Max: Martian ForgeWorld look of this terrain.
Definitely making this for my table!
You gotta love water gun challenges and those Dollarama water guns, eh 😉
Great result here, I think the small pair with the striped pattern plastic are my favourite.
Hey, Guy sent me here. Your terrain crushed his - like an eagle would crush a butterfly. Please don't tell him I said that... I want to tell him muahahaha :D
Poor butterfly.
@@jacobhoekman6865 I just like teasing Guy ;) He knows I love him.
I know I just like butterflies. They have my favorite food in them. Butter.
10:59 watch guy cheat. That cracked me up.
This was freakin awesome dude. Also, i kind of loved the two part video editing. Like, first part let the video speak for itself as far as whaf your doing, then an explanative 2nd part just to give us a rundown after the fact. Hearing what you did on the piece while seeing it completed in front of you just kind of made it click for me. Great job man. Love ya
I got started on miniatures with Necromunda, and one of the most fun parts of terrain building was being able to look at weird bits of junk, broken stuff, ordinary household items and old, busted toys and turn them into stuff that looked amazing with relatively little effort. It's always fun to see that tradition carrying on.
I'd actually love to see you make some kind of Z-Rust style Buck Rogers diorama. Z-Rust is a great aesthetic that could use some more love!
I 2nd that Buck Rogers diorama!
Third
What is "Z-Rust"? Don't know it and Google isn't helping.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial he means zeerust
tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Zeerust
(basically the past's idea of the future)
Kinda Atom age retro futurism?
"I hope you enjoy losing."
Man, talk about shots fired...
I'll let myself out now.
I love these kind of friendly competition videos I've seen between the different terrain channels lately. Great job!
Awesome work! And just when I thought I would go exclusively 3d printed terrain, your work gives me a reason to try kitbashing again.
Time to buy supplies!!
I love all the collaborations you guys are doing. It’s a nice reminder that we’re still all united in this hobby even with the world going a little crazy and having to be isolated.
Your creativity amazes me. Thank you for doing this "totally silly" job and sharing it with us. You are an inspiration. Yes, you won the challenge. Congratulations!
Great vid. Absolutely loving the mellow montage to open.
Love all the cross channel challenges you guys do now! I've been watching all of you for a while. it's so awesome to see you all work together.
they came out great mate ! very inspiring
Awesome to see an entire table of terrain from 1 project, pretty wild to think about. It was also cool how true to the original prompt you stayed basically just slapping a base on the plastic parts.
killed it my dude! All you guys making hobby content are seriously inspiring :)
Love how this worked out. Not only do the pieces look great, but I like how well they matched the mat you wanted to use them with. Very Mad Max, Adeptus Mechanicus, even Dune-ish.
Awesome idea for a video. I really enjoyed it, and great work as always!
What a fantastic build! I've been following for so long, and you just keep impressing me more and more with every video.
Wow, these look awesome. Way better than I thought they would turn out.
Nice set! The weathering looks awesome :D
These look amazing, they've got such a nice gritty industrial look to them. The paint job really pulled it together :D
Another great video, these look great!
This is awesome, would like to see more challenges like this. That bit you scrapped had a real Fallout vibe to me
I saw the top of a little head poke into frame some there - "watcha making, Dad?" :)
Fantastic job, as always!
Great job Jeremy. You always come through.
Sweet stuff! Definitely going to try this for some Gaslands terrain.
I love this opening man!!! Super chill and a huge mood!!!
H U G E M O O D
Awesome video. You always get me looking at alternate materials for action figure dioramas.
The one you didn't finish painting looks like a perfect entrance into a building. The domed part in the middle with the X on it looks like a futuristic door. I would cut that in half and glue to a building and it would fit in with a lot of future sci-fi buildings.
Man you nailed this challenge! Great job bud
Holy shoot they look awesome! Nicely done
Okay but can we take a moment to talk about how good the editing was on this video? This build made me feel so inspired!!
I really like the one you called your favorite, too! The combination of parts looks like an integrated industrial thing with storage tank and smokestack, and I think it works really well.
Clear winner! Playable and without cheating, looking great. Thank you well done.
Just wanted to take a moment to tell you I really like your content man, it's so inspiring to see how you can make even a bunch of water guns into some slick terrain!
These look badass! Nice job!
VERY cool!!! I really like when you convert random toys to something Epic.
As always great.lessons learned. Thanks
Has to be one of my fav videos. Combines everything
That looks so fantastic I love it
Awesome build and paint!
Dude, I love that you sync your edits to the music. Makes the whole video so much more enjoyable.
Ps great build.
Great video man! I really enjoyed the opening montage. It was just really well put together, as was the entire video. You and the other modeling, miniature, crafting type channels really help me get out of the "everything is awful" head space the different medias often seems determined to pull me into! A nice reminder that life keeps going, and we should not stop enjoying it! anyway, thanks for the content!
That retro-style piece might look good in a Fallout game.
Great idea. After watching both videos, BMC definitely won. Would love to see more competition videos in the future.
We need more of these cross channel challenges, loved the terrain as always. Sick instrumental for the intro!
The editing style is just superb! You outdone yourself Jeremy!
Great job! Love the paintjob 👍🏻
gotta love what you did with those tanks, great work!!!
Great job as usual love the paint job you killed it
cool Challenge my friend, thanks for doing it.
These turned out great!
You won! Fantastically cool terrain!
These challenges are always amazing, great job bro
As always your ability to turn everyday mundane objects into something completely different has blown my mind. Well done!
Very cool builds , I got some water guns to make terrian , just never had the time to make it , but now that I know it's possible, really cool video !
looking very well indeed .cant wait what you going to do with the left over part. love that look for a necron factory
i've been looking for stuff to make eldar style terrain and the curves on those water guns are perfect. instead of making them worn and grimdark I'd just make them look nice and shiny. thank you for the accidental inspiration!
Cool video as always. Great job. You've got my vote
It's nothing short of amazing how great the pieces look in the end even as you still kinda spot some of the original shapes, if you had added bits and greeblies it would have passed for bought terrain, just great job!
That looks amazing well done
Looks absolutely amazing!
Good job! Having watched both. I do declare that you have won!
Terrain like this is why I subscribe to this channel! BMC for the win!! Terrain that is functional and doesn't look like water pistols! Great gob!
"PS. I hope you enjoy losing!"
Why yes, I will enjoy it when you lose!
Yeah, these turned out really good. I wasn't sure about the holes left by cutting off the handles, but they work in the finished product.
MId Winter Minis sent me over - great video, great build, great painting & great imagination from a bag of plastic toys. Fantastic
I realize you put this video out a year ago but WOW. I’m always amazed when I see what movie props, scenes and terrain are made from. You turned those water pistols into great Mad Max post apocalyptic structures. I’m just amazed. I also want to thank you for sharing your techniques. I actually just finished building the hexagon fountain, my first attempt at building terrain. It turned out pretty cool, thank you for the tutorial.
Kitbashing will never die. Awesome video!
Those came out badass nice job 👍💯
So good. Would never know those finished pieces were made from water guns. Really great stuff.
Relatively new terrain crafter here. Was inspired by your channel. I kept thinking, ‘that is so cool, ‘ as I watched this vid. Very cool and simple build.
Excellent video! Those water guns make some amazing looking terrain. Props to you on mastering that airbrush! Next to watch Guy's version. Thanks for your videos, man. You are always inspiring.
Midwinter Mini recommended me to this channel and it is absolutely awesome! great work on the terrain, my dude.
BMC this was a great video As a player of 40k I can appreciate the work that you did for this kind of terrain they came out great
Definite Win - with no cheating!!!! _ reminded me of another waterpistol project I had on the back burner - thanks - very enjoyable - SUBSCRIBED!
Once again, epic job. Never thought of water guns as a material. Genius. Must say, your airbrush skills are getting crazy good. Also, for a minute, I thought your only dialog was going to be your line in the very beginning about how many guns to use...this would've been hilarious if it were the only thing you said until the reveal. Great job Jeremy
Dude the music in your videos lately is on point!
This gives me some Gaslands Ideas. That one you didn't prime at all to me look like an interesting piece.
Great video. It felt a lot like your cool Dollarama tank build. Killer music.
Great project! Through the first half I kept thinking of how I'd approach this, and I'd use my benchtop band saw. I can't recommend a small band saw enough. It makes short work of MDF and HDF for bases, and would be my go to tool for cutting through those water guns. (In fact, I have used it to cut through water guns for my own projects before.) If you don't have a little band saw, you can get one for about $100 USD (give or take). It's an essential tool for my terrain projects. I use it about as often as I use my Proxxon hot wire table. I swear by that thing.
That's what all the nerf modders use to trick out their blasters. Great tool for this kinda stuff.
@@erictripps125 i think it's utterly ironic that the term "nerfing" is used in the video game world to mean something was made less powerful, whereas in real life people take Nerf guns and replace the firing spring etc to make it hit harder, basically un-Nerfing
Amazing outcome
Wow this is another great project. I really liked Guy's arena build - that's really cool, but ultimately, scatter terrain is always more useful going forward than single large builds, so yours gets my vote in this challenge :)
Another great scratch built terrain video. Keeping me inspired to improve my own content as always!
It is almost like they design water guns for this. Even if they smell when cut.
Also good on you for the use of PPE. I think it is something we often overlook when working with this stuff.
I am now 1/2 way into this and they already look badass. Great work here.
Brilliant video, thank you
I got hooked on the miniature painting and terrain painting videos recently and I'm planning on buying some XPS foam and tools asap and start experienting. First I am going to use my hobby quality acrylics, because I don't know yet if it's worth of investing a lot yet. But you and few other channels have been a very big inspiration for me to try this. So thank you for making this kind of videos. To you and everybody who makes this kind of content available for us.
PS at first I thought you'd have to paint with the water guns, lol :D
