#BlackMagicCraft #Episode205 #NURGLE
This project was designed to be really approachable and really generic so that basically anybody could do it, and adapt it to their game's style. I decorated mine to fit within a Death Guard army theme but you could easily make these into Necron towers or some weird fantasy style for Dungeons and Dragons. It totally just comes down to your painting choices.

How would you decorate these basic towers to fit your own theme?
I think I am going to try more of a monolith like Cleopatra's Needle or use them for large stones like I would use for a druid circle. AND I have not yet had a chance to make my set of BMC Stackers so guess what I am going to use on those? ;)
Just curious, do you have any of these on practice pieces? I am wondering how the coating would handle cutting runes into them with a knife or awl post drying? That way you get the rigidity of the mixture but still manage fine details. But not sure how the surface takes to shaping post drying.
@@jackhelm9852 I didn't test the coating on anything that had runes or shapes carved IN, but I did test on pieces that used various thicknesses of paper to make shapes ON pieces, and this worked really well. I think you could carve out runes in construction paper to create a cool raised rune effect.
The coating probably would work on indented shapes as well but you'd likely need to make them a bit wider/deeper than usual to account for the build up from the coating.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial I am pushing hard to get my maker space remodel finished to I can get back to trying some of these things.
'm going to use this new texture to make full-foam grey-green monoliths. I'll add in the plastic skulls on top (like your skull terrain pieces) and make some clay tentacles to make it more Cthulhu. But I'll rip some pieces before painting to toss around the base. Paint up the whole in classic greenish dry stone, and use gloss clear Mod Podge with just a touch of green ink to make the torn out sections "bleed" ooze.
I love these “kitchen table” builds. They make me realise I should be building and I’m just being lazy 😁
The models are great, but man, your turntable shots are seriously mouth-watering. YOU SO TALENTED.
"do you come with the car?"......"oh you you....tee hee hee hee"
Get a room guys...
@@Troopy78 or make one
Imagine finding these weathered stone versions in a jungle, with abyssal lettering carved into them, signifying a yuan-ti demonic ritual for a d&d game... I’ll probably be building some!
This boy is in deep.
Getting lost in the weeds.....or tentacles I guess.
I'm digging the multi-purpose projects.
my dad and I bond over these types of projects, and now, your videos. thanks for making something that brings us together when 95% of things don't
I’m really digging this delve into 40K for you. It’s definitely expanded your building potential
This “rusty texture” method would probably work really well to enhance MDF industrial terrain.
This is my favorite type of content you put out. I love the flexibility of this build, and instructions about 4 sided builds and texture paste that are super easy to apply to other projects. Can't wait to it out!
I've got a big multi-pack of caulking and a large section of packaging styrofoam I intended on building into a fortress. Having watched, I know what must be done. Thanks for this info!
love it! Geometry tip, rotate the template 180 each time and use one of the diagonal edges you already cut. Less pointy waste in between.
Personally I don't care about saving $0.15 in material. But if you are concerned you can absolutely take the time to lay out your pieces more efficiently.
I, too, was triggered by this unforgivable act of inefficiency and waste of dollar-store supplies.
Also, it would have saved him from having to make a whole *11* cuts! Just think of the time that would have saved!
This texture would cool to use as like rust on a vehicle that had been painted over to try and hide the rusting
Super specific but great idea
Oh yeah. A basic obelisk with texture on it can be a super versatile start for any theme/style.
Might have to try some out.
Man you should have made seven to make grandfather even more happy
I was thinking that too, and maybe even three sided Obelisks...
Three and Seven are both precious to our Papa, he shows no favoritism!
Mykl Carlton I more of a seven guy, Motarions sons sport the seven
I know almost nothing about warhammer, but my favorite numbers are 3 and 7. I guess I'm now obligated to start lol.
@@rabidraccoon73 Welcome to the family! Papa Nurgle loves you.
Love your channel and so does my 11 year old son. We have been crafting some of you build together. So thanks for the father and son bonding time. He is a big fan. Every weekend he make me watch one of your old video on the TV with him. No to build or anything but just for the fun. So thank you. My son want me to ask if you had any simpler build he may be able to complete on his own. Made from household items. He has asked for a raise in his allowance. ( DAD I need more $$$ for Materials) LOL. Or if you could do like a kids episode every once in a while.
Man these are so cool! Well done! You keep pushing my inspiration levels so much. Look forward to whatever’s next!
I was feeling kind of frustrated with crafting, but now I might make some of these. I'm excited to see what I can do.
I'm loving all the nurgle content I'm seeing at the moment. Please keep it coming!
i gotta try that new protection style, thank you again, for an informative, and fun build
Quick, affordable, easy construction, and highly versatile & mod-able. If there was a category you'd win 1st place. Inspired!
These are fantastic, along with the same techniques it would be really great to see more. Thanks for sharing, I'll make sure to remember this for my next terrain project!
Love this, I'm going to make some Obelisks for Frostgrave!
I love the paint process!
Always glad to have another tool in my arsenal. Thanks BMC!
I love these! Very cool versatile piece. I really appreciate the occasional "kitchen-table crafting friendly" build, as that's the level I'm at when I make small things. Great stuff!
I still can't get over the fact how great the big guy is. The mini itself and your conversion both
I've never made my own terrain before but this video has inspired me and the towers look better than anything I thought I was capable of making myself. Great video and keep up the good work!
This is super neat! I like that you are using very accessible supplies for us mortals, but I always love when you whip out the advanced stuff too. Love the content
This was super-useful! Can’t wait to try this out on some similar Necron terrain!
I am so glad you have learned to like this style. I love your methods and always wanted to see you do more items that will fit a larger variety of gaming uses. I could see these towers being used with many different games like Star Wars Legions simply by changing the paint scheme and iconography. Great video!
Dude, this was the perfect video for what I have been imagining lately. Thank you! Between this and your Sci Fi door video you have provided some top tier techniques for me to use for my Ork constructions and the terrain I want to build for Kill Team/Star Breach. Thank you so much for what you do!
This is going to give me a great project to start building terrain with! Looking forward to making some rusty ones for my new necron army 😀
Very creative and great guide! So many uses for this type of approach! Thanks!
baking soda.. never would have guessed it..TY! and a very timely for me and my current project (old concrete).. once again.. Thank you.
A friend does a lot of work with flexible foam and he uses the caulk but also use Liquid Nails. He shoots some on and then uses a brush to slather it around. After a few minutes you can scribe in stones, bricks or just marks. When dry, it is insanely hard. And at the DIY store - super cheap!
Thanks for the new ideas! Awesome work as always.
You’re a genius, I’ve got so much caulk lying around and never would have thought of this
Phrasing
Superb in its simplicity, yet again!! Cheers for the creative and practical approach that continues to be refined with every new video!
Absolutely awesome! Just got into some terrain-making myself -- definitely putting these on the up-next list!
Great job on these...super accessible level of effort with an awesome result.
This channel is a gift to the hobby. I was looking to get back into 40K and contemplating some terrain ideas, so stumbling upon this is great.
Those turned out great! The close ups really showcase the texture which wasnt evident in the far away build shots. Great stuff! And its given me inspiration to build some GIANT Targa pylons for my Shadows of Brimstone game! Going to share this video in that Facebook group for others as well!
Nurgle terrain!? Im absolutely building this! Nurgle is my favorite faction and your one of my favorite youtubers, im sooo happy you got into it. I've never made terrain before but I'm absolutely making this. I really hope to see more in the future!! :D
Always loved your builds, but as a death guard player myself i really like that you do simple terrain like this for me to get started. Keep up the good work :)
This was actually exactly what I needed. I have been looking for something to cover some modular dungeon walls to be used in my D&D campaign and this would be perfect. Thanks!
I enjoyed how simple this video is. I'm going to try the latex caulking texture method for sure, I see a ton of value in it, it might have just solved a problem for me.
Very cool, Im excited yo try the new hard coat!
Great idea with the acrylic calk. Usually I just use spackle sanding between coats. It makes for great concrete, but it's a long process. I've been looking for a harder finish, and I'll have to try this out.
I don't like spackle for this sort of thing. It's too brittle. The latex caulking remains flexible and dries really fast. It also doesn't shrink. If you try to improve spackle with glue to make it stronger you face the challenge of shrinking and warping. It's good for filling gaps and stuff, but as a surface coat you'll find the acrylic caulking mix much better.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial I usually do about three thin coats, with a little water mixed, and I haven't had problems with cracking. It's good for concrete, but I'm looking for a more metallic or even plastic sci-fi surface. Without the baking soda, does the caulk finish hard, or is the baking soda a catalyst?
This looks like a super fun future weekend project. Thanks!
I used this tutorial to make some generic pylons for Star Wars Legion, and they really add some variety to the table. Thanks for a great video!
I am definitely using the basic structure of these for sith monoliths to use on my legion table. Excellent stuff!
(Really digging The Captain as the intro/outro too)
These are awesome! Super simple, but add a ton of theme for your army.
Not gonna lie, this is one of the best looking rusted metal finish I've ever seen. Even up close, it looks the part. Giving of how simple it is to make and durable it seems, definitely gonna keep this recipe in mind. Thanks for sharing and keep at it!
Incredible idea and awesome video. Thank you for this!
Nice - thanks for the new coating tip.
Your videos and techniques are getting better and better this year
Oh snap. I'm absolutely going to have to use this new coating!!! I'm a long time D&D terrain maker, but lately have been branching into post-apocalyptic terrain for Fallout Wasteland Warfare and/or Gaslands. This makes an AWESOME looking coating for something you want to look completely rusted through! I'm fire up about this!
These are sweet as, definitely seeing some different possibilities for other themes to use with them.
Used this idea to make my own towers with heavy emphasis on nurgle growths and scaffolding around the the tower and loved the results.
Thanks BMC. Forest vines, snow lighthouse. Just a few that came to mind.
I tried the caulk and backing soda with some added sand for mini basing material and worked great for a soft ground type effect. Thanks for the idea.
Nice project, gives me some ideas for my on Death Guard army. Keep up the great videos.
Good timing for this video... I have an iPhone box liner, which is shaped like a cool building, but I needed something to harden it and add texture. This looks perfect for that job.
Great video. I made a slight modification to the recipe for the grit I used table salt and coarse sea salt. Has given me a fine and a chunky finish.
Love it. Thanks so much for the inspiration. Ill be giving these a bash at some point.
I love that caulk and baking soda recipe! I’ve added baking soda to paint before but never with caulk. I’ll have to try that, thank you!
This makes me want to finally tackle proper scatter terrain. I also have recently gotten into death guard and your double sided dungeon tiles for cheap were my first project. I think I've found project two.
that technique you did is great and thanks for that tip on the Caulking stuff
The new coating is a neat idea. Thank you for the recipe! Re. covering the edges/maintaining the shape, I generally find cutting the pieces with beveled edges really hides the join and makes it a lot easier to make square or rectangular shapes. That said if you're covering the edges anyway (those borders and diagonal strips really add a lot!) cutting them square like you did can shave off quite a bit of time.
Cool build, love this style.
Been watching you for inspiration for my D&D campaigns for a good while now so you can imaging my joy when I decided to talk the plunge into Warhammer and lo and behold who do I see doing the Plague-Father proud? Keep up the great work and Father's Blessing to you XD
Really really really cool man! So basic, so simple! Love Love Love
This info is awesome it's exactly what I'm looking for right now 👍
I've been collecting cardboard boxes and egg-cartons for months now, even if I'm not planning to do any gaming terrains or models. Your videos are really inspiring especially with a starting crafter, who's only going for this out of boredom (and wanting to try their limits with consentration)!
Cheers!
These look amazing!
Very thematic. You're killing it with your nurgle stuff.
Thanks for the new tips! I will definitely use this technique for some Gaslands terrain for my channel!
Definitely need to try this! Praise Papa Nurgle!
This is awesome, Im just getting into making terrain buildings so will be trying this =)
Also, anybody who sees this comment should check out this guy's channel!
Love them. Might have to make them a little more metallic with purple-ish washes and put the mark of Slaanesh on them. Love these post-apocalyptic/modern builds, easily my favorite vids you make. Thanks for always making them beginner friendly as well.
Look great for a cheap & easy terrain extras build. Thanks!
Love how you make your own recipes and multi use. Would love to see you do a themed ship or a large land vehicle in a multi use way as well. I enjoy any video, your personality and tone.
My favorite build in a long time!
I enjoy the more simplistic multipurpose builds. I think these will be excellent cement constructions for my decommissioned power plant in cyberpunk.
Great Nurgle themed terrain. Will def try this out
i gonna make this for my dnd game but then with stone finishing, as i made other scatter terrain inspired by your videos.keep making those videos man, it helps me alot to get inspired when i waan build something but dont know were to start
These look like a great foundation to make alternatives to the usual types of necron towers out there
I like this new coating, I am going to give that a try
I love it, I've been wanting to create Deathguard themed terrain myself, these give me an idea to do a Deathguard clocktower. One of the dark imperium books mortarion had made some demonic grandfather clock basically that drew warp energies to that world.
Love these things! Well done!
There's quite a lot to this tutorial. So much more than just build and paint and quite easy to make it into whatever you need for whatever setting. Great job, and those models look great.
There really is! And I hope most people can recognize this instead of reacting like "wHy tHiS nOt D&D tUtOrIaL?!" :D
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial The build itself is simplistic but can be modified to fit in any setting, be it fantasy, scifi, moder, etc. The cauk mix could've been a video in its own right. The applications are only really limited to the users imagination. Basing, terrain, even modeling the possibilities are endless, truly a useful video.
Am new to your stuff, but followed a link from a DZTV discord link as am a Death Guard player... I absolutely loved the Plague Monoliths and immediately began my own... fantastic tutorial... am now a fan! Would love to see more sci-fi/ 40K themed scenery
Great work dude.
These turned out great! I love that you’re daemon prince is almost as tall as they are. It really shows how MASSIVE it is. Excellent work.
drybrushing the metal is simulating metal that has been rusted then had the oxidation worn away. It works really well for armor and things that obviously get a lot of friction. Large things like this I could imagine wind erosion playing into it, though that would probably need to be a lot. if it was particularly sandy you would see more of it.
I've started picking up a few sheets of the easy peel and well bonded foam core whenever I head out to Dollarama and Dollar Tree. Jars of decorative rocks, sand and bags of moss are also starting to fill up the cubes of my Ikea shelving. I blame you for this, Jeremy! Lol
Jeremy going 40k is my favorite thing to happen in the crafting community in a long time. As a 40k/kill team player I appreciate this builds a lot.
Dude, I’m absolutely loving all these sci-fi builds! Awesome work, man. 🤘 🚀
These are awesome and so easy to build
One of my favourite ways to finish foamcore corners is to simply allow for the overlap, score a line through the foam the same width as the next piece and remove the foam and inside backing paper to leave the outside paper backing as a flap the width of of a piece of foamcore. Then cover the exposed end of the next piece of foam with that paper flap. It gives a nice finished-looking edge without requiring extra material. Also, the little leftover bits of foam core you take off can be cut up and used to make bricks.
Yes! Some Nurgle terain love! I needed this!
