  • I have been practicing Slow Flight to get ready for my solo phase check. Here is a perfect example of why we learn slow flight. I have just departed KSQL for a short flight back to KPAO only to find air traffic at KPAO extremely congested (so much so that I could barely contact the tower). When I did break through I was #5 in the sequence, necessitating slow flight on my long approach to runway 31. On my turn to final you can catch the runway at KNUQ (Moffett Federal Airfield). I am in the cockpit of a Cessna 172SP with my CFI Mark Erwin (www.mark1aviation.com).

That was seriously hectic. Wasn't expecting so much traffic, but now I understand why I will practice slow flight tomorrow.

That flight was 6 years ago and early in my training but I remember it well. Thank you for watching!

Gret video. And why I prefer to fly out of KRHV, even if it takes me 15 minutes longer to drive from my house.

Congested airspace is a reality here in the Bay Area. Thanks for watching.

I have a telescopic aluminum pole with suction cups on each end. It was originally designed to mount to the side windows horizontally (in older 170s before shoulder belts). I mount it vertically between the seats (from floor to ceiling) so it doesn’t interfere with the seat belts. Unfortunately they no longer sell this item.
