We Put Downhill Forks On A Hardtail! | The Ultimate DH Hardtail?
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 7. 08. 2021
- Blake put some DH forks on his and Neil's hardtail's! Is this the ultimate hardtail setup? - Remember that over forking your bike can sometimes be fine, and other times can be dangerous so we really don't recommend trying this yourself! (Check with the frame manufacture before making any changes as it may void any warranty or in some cases it could increase the chances of snapping a head tube off!)

I would love a video comparing a high end hardtail vs a low end full suspension
High End HT is totally the way to go, loving mine lmao
Pibkbike did a budget round up a while ago. Think they so direct comparisons between the ones they had roughly in the same price bracket. Also Van Can has a bike buyers guide thing where he discusses this briefly.
When you say low end full suspension, I picture a walmart mongoose 250$ type bikes. And when you say high end hardtail I picture numerous bikes that are 3,000 to 10,000$..Why would you want that comparison?
2500 moneys HT vs FS
@@endianAphones you could even go lower. You could do 2k or 1800. To me that seems like a better sweet spot.
I've always loved that Blake is such a hard tail enthusiast
Next up, rigid fork on a downhill frame with 200mm in the rear.
Plot twist: they ride backwards
Rip hands. Lol
Am I the only one who wants to see how this would perform?
*Puts a DH fork on a hardtail:
"Welcome back you beautiful people!"
*Puts a DH fork on a hardtail:
"Hello everyone, today is gonna be epic"
Good old Pilgrim
Blake and pilgrim is a good combo
Haha love that line of Sam
My first thought as well! Just another freebike challenge for Sam
@@KeithintheWoods let's see what this freeb can do! (After putting forks on it that cost more than most bikes)
Blake's aggressiveness + Neil's finesse = One hell of a ride! đ„đ€đŒ
Finally! They showed us that hardtail dual crowns are good things, many people hate it but I love how it looks and rides
That's the Hardtail setup Blake ought to have used on his Megavalanche on a Hardtail challenge!
Yes! I want to see this.
I thought exactly this when I first saw it.
Another year Another challenge???
don't give him ideasđź
"Welcome back you beautiful people!"
So refreshing.
We did this 20+ years ago. Hardtail frames like the Evil Imperial were basically designed to run 175-200mm travel forks. The hot setup with an original Monster T.
Was just gonna make this exact comment. Love my imperial, sadly it is currently a single crown sherman
With 24/24 double track rims and 3.0 halo or nokian tyres
I mean, longer wheelbase, higher stack, slacker headangle, higher bb. Almost everything exept the shorter reach makes this thing more cabable geo wise
What does bb mean?
-asking for a friend đŹđ
@@Hanger995 bottom bracket
@@hailzgavsadventures23 higher bb ainât a good thing tho?
@Jax Inrig yeah but it makes the bike considerably worse in corners and far more unstable
@@melwalshmtb9121 no, itâs stable as hell, Iâm riding a bike like this for half a year
In Bulgaria we even had separate DH races especially for hardtail downhill bike with dual crown forks or singe with 180 travel. I think we have then from like 2011 till now. Nothing new or insane.
What is the event called ?
WHERE ARE THE VIDEOS
Would love to see that. You got any links to watch it?
I m from Macedonia my neigbhour has bulgarian brand i think it was called RAM
Nothing new. True. Still most ppl only know steep 69dagree headangle XC Hardtails. Even some pros don't know that Enduro Hardtails are a thing đ
Downhill hardtails are just so awesome! đ
4:47 that awesome clap yo
Something about those downhill hardtails just looks so right!?đ€đ€đ€
Back in the days 90% ppl in Poland used to ride like that. 66 or 888 or even Monster wasn't suprise in hardtail, especially ones like cromo NS Bitch. It even had warranty for double crown forks!
Quality boys đ€đ» itâs all about the hardcore hardtail đ€đ»
When you have the skill that it takes yes. Rode a remedy with 160mm in the front and i think 140mm in the back and crashed 4 times and with a HT i probably would have crashed 20times and be in the hospital. Rode with a friend in Austria in the holidays this week.
I love Hardtails but as a beginner it's a suicide machine in Austriađ
Yeah definitely need the skills đ€đ»
@@finnisd1 And a LOT of it! Yesterday when i still was in Austria i saw someone riding Mutters bike park green flowtrails and he actually was pretty fast for riding an XC bike.
He also rode down a red trail that starts right next to the lift but he rode very slow even for what i think is slow as a beginner wich wasn't a suprise considering the the terrain.
Went from 120mm to 150mm fork on my hardtail and according to strava I beat my previous PB on my local red trail by almost 20 seconds without even trying, felt like a new bike!
Is 30mm travel better. What about riding streets
I went from 100mm to 140mm on my hardtail and itâs like a different damn bike
â@@destinhook3826 did you make any adjustments to the headset i.e angled headset adjustment kit. I'm looking at going from 130mm to 180mm
HT mullet, 2.45 tire front and rear, 63 HA, dropper, 150mm fork, pedal clips, the front 29 goes through every kind of path, I love it, almost more than my full suspension... pure fun!!
Doddy informs us not to add more than 20 mm from standard Blake says nah Bro
Such a Sam Pilgrim idea đ
He actually did it a lot of times
I agree đ€Łđ€Ł well done gmbn
Minus one thing, these bikes are not free
Is Neil filling in for Sam pilgrim đ
Ikr ? We love to see it
Neil isn't a bell like sam
THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!!!!!!! I'VE BEEN SEARCHING THE NET FOR MONTH IF DH FORRKS ARE GOOD ON HARDTAILS!!! SOOOOOOO MANY THANKSSSSSSS â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
Has Sam Pilgrim taken over the GMBN channel for the weekend!? đ€ #todayisgonnabeepic
Nah...no stairs of doom!
@@aaronwest8909 very true đ
Needs to be a low entry bike
Reminds me of my mate's bike when we were growing up - an old Scott XC frame with RST triple clamp DH forks on it. A miracle the head tube didn't snap off. Looked rad though.
Same here, started on a Specialized P2 with a Dualcrown
We used to ride HT w/dh forks way back in early 2000s... đđđ
You two are the best. I love these downhill/hardtails. As matter of fact I build my own bikes and gonna make similar one very soon.
I did this in highschool on my avanti hotdog and loved it
Back in the day on the North Shore of Vancouver. Everyone was riding HT bikes with double crown forks. My personal fave bike I had back then. Banshee Morphine (bee yellow). Marzocchi Monster T forks. Mag Rims. 2.7 tyres. OG mullet 26 front 24 rear. Thong weight just under 50lbs. Was a freeride tank. Still toss my DH fork on my Torrent just for park days sometimes.
Thanks guys! I live my hardcore hardtail! Keep the hardtail content coming!!
I always admire how alright you are riding in that pouring rain. I can't even go out to shop on day like that.
Hahaha nice video! I watched it whole with smile on my face. I have the same approach as Blake there - 'Simon why did you add 203 rotor to your bike, you will not ride any downhill!' I did it just for fun, to check how it works, 'cos I can! I love that kind of approach. To explore, to do something differently, 'out of the box', to use things in a different way they meant to be to know if they are capable more. Great stuff guys!
I've braided hope M4 and 203 rotor on my 2006 cocker. If you ride it hard downhill you need big brakes!đđ
You post a hardtail video I like before even watching. Love it guys
I have a Giant Trance (enduro bike) with DH double crown forks (RockShox Boxxer) and I love that combination. The front of the bike is a little heavier in comparison to the enduro single crown fork, but the bike is still really good when going uphill and I have more confidence then riding downhill and jumping.
What fun! Thanks peeps!
That is what I call - dedication and loving your work :) also, first time I saw Blake with the googles on his face and not on the back of his helmet
Awesome video as always! Well done guys! Keep em coming! Thank You from me and my little Channel! â€ïžđŽó §ó ąó ·ó Źó łó żâ€ïž
In a big way this channels the spirit of the motorcycle scramblers back in the day, when weekend racers would fly through the woods on Triumphs and BSAs with not much in the travel department. And Blake and Neil were flying, with one of them seemingly laughing all the way, too.
In Brazil Downhill Hardtail is common, because bike prices are very expensive. Our championships have the Rigid (Hardtail) category. I own one myself with a Boxxer. And most riders that have hardtails are better than those that have Full Suspension. You have better control of the bike, but the rear jumps a lot, but it's fun.
thats an awsome set up gives me ideas now love it
Proper video that fellas! Keep it sent!!đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„
Blake is the dude! Neil, lighten up dude! Killin it guys!
Hardtail downhill bikes rock i can say yes i have one and i love it
You don't want to know how long I've been waiting for this video, I've had this idea (DH fork + Hardtail)!
You guys just have all the fun đ
Looks like a typical day in the PNW corner or Washington State.đ
Looks like a blast though!
Every time I see these hardtail videos, I get an extreme boost added to my confidence...until I fall into a bush when cornering. đ€Ł
On a serious note, I really enjoy watching these hardtail videos. Does encourage me to challenge my rides on my hardtail. đȘđŒ
Me too đ
hey very cool video. think it's good that you test this topic on the track. There is always a lot of discussion about the frame geometry. I've been driving a Marzocchi DH fork on my hardtail for over 5 years and I'm more than satisfied. The driving feeling gives you a certain kick that you don't get with a DH fully. At least that's how I feel. nice thing thumbs upđ
what frame
this is the gmbn that we all love
Thought I might see some head-tube snappin' action...đđ
I've head this idea of a hardtail with a DH fork for a long time now, I just don't have the money or time to carry it out!
the thing that really caught me at the start was the stick. amazing engineering
Hey guys, in Brazil we were using those since early 2000's. We had hard tail dh championship as well.
The water droplets at 4:47
Being a Brazilian... Hardtails with huge suspension is common here since proper downhill bikes costs more than some cars.
5 times more expensive (with our coin being 5 to one dollar), PLUS only 60% tax... Yeah, a good (not a top bike), can cost more than a car.
In Argentina is the same thing but dh forks are expensive af so you can ride an ghetto bike and still expensive
That was fun!
Love these videos
Ive been waiting for this so lo g
here in Brazil and also in many places in south america, good downhill bikes cost too much so a lot of people use hardtail freeride or dirt jump/slope bikes on downhill tracks and heavy freeride with double crown downhill suspensions like Fox, RST, Marzocchi we know it's not recommended to do this because a double crown suspension causes a lot of fatigue on the hardtail frame and there have been many accidents because of it but what is also important is the fun even with low quality bikes
Iâve always wondered
Good video I been thinking about putting DH forks on my Marin Hardtail
Great video fellas! For those that know... 12cent racing
Love it đđ€Ł Thanks guys đđŒ
Using many years Felt Double Shot with Shiver DC, its amazing đ. My favorite hardtail dh bike. And those Strange eyes of People seeing it đ
Quality little liquid dnb tune tossed in for the first DH segment
This is epic đđ»
This is the sort of stuff we want to see! Still waiting for 4k though!?
.. "beu i fow peepow" .. good on ya Blake .. spread the love !! I want a downhill hardtail now !! .. beu i fow bikes !! .. but after riding hardtails forever, I luuuuv my screamin Banshee Rune w 6.3 front n ree !! Mountain biking - NO KA OI, BRA !!!
Saw the post on fb so I gotta watch it
I like how the rear of a hard tail girps so well
You spend to much time with the 50 to 01 dudes, the drum and Bass Song on the first trail instantly took me back to their videos!
Dartmoor hornet can take triple clamps and forks upto 200 mm mine has 180 mm dvo on it 2.6 tyres and it is a blast to ride down hill
wow Amazing
Digging Blakeâs loving for the hard tail
My HT had a 130, switched to 150 and its so plush. I was thinking twice before of bumping it up to 20mm that it could snap the headtube. But , hey how about this stoic and scout? hahaha. HT is sick!
Bewildering!
Ok guys now try with flat pedals đ
Love this vid !!
*i saw some asian rider in the mountain a month ago did that build with a cheap mountainpeak dh fork single speed and they love it*
You should do something with a 63.5 or 62 degrees head angle hardtail and compare it.
NICE!!
Awesome!
Now to put a 24" tire on the rear, and you're riding north shore style, circa 2000.
Sick!!!!
yeah!
When neal said about the dropper seat post I immediately taught of Lewis buchannan at the top of read bull hard line
those pink helmets being gone is a relief
this look's like a Dreambuild of my Stoic
Primal beast form
glad you did this, my xc 26" has now a 150mm Z1 with a 27+ on the front, frame has not snapped (yet), i hope it will in the luckiest way possible. Altough I am very happy with it I don't feel like I should recommend it, it's a temporary configuration waiting a scout frame next year.
Boxxers on a hardtail takes me back to early 2000s homemade bitsa bikes!
Rob Dis Willis the best man for DH forks on hardtails
There are lots of retro dh hard tail frames that were made for dual crown forks.
I think the green one for me
âYou should be fine - I tightened those bolts.â đđđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Yeahh Llangynoooggg!
Thatâs how my 160mm pike feel on my 2017 specialized fuse đđ»
I have a 160 yari on my canyon stoic, great fun
bro my bike is literally this with bombers on the front and a scott hard tail frame so this was right up my alley
I've just picked up a 2021 scout since the new one forced the old one on sale now I want to put tripple clamps on it
Love listening to Blake's commentary on his own riding, "ohhh, arghhh, nasty". Sounds just like me....... riding a blue lol
yeah!đ€
I sold my NP Scout 290 a couple months ago....đ I donât know why I watched this....đą I miss my Scout đđđđ
But I did manage to grab a 2021 Mega đđđ
Damn the paint job on that Canyon DH bike. Looks like a Batmobile or stealth jet.
i feel like as an around town huck to flat sort of rin this COULD be stupid fun...
