- A smaller than usual art haul video for December 2023 - mostly because I didn't have time to film all the swatching. But enjoy the variety of items I am unpacking, and I DO swatch some of the items with you!

Now that is a lovely pencil sharpener. Evie, in a weird time zone alignment, I had just sat down in my kitchen with my coffee and breakie and opened CZcams to fine a little something to watch and your video popped up in my notifications. So on a Friday and much later in the morning than normal, I got to enjoy your haul and my coffee at the same time. I just love the Derwent drawing pencils. I love the colours and how they go down. Later today, I am going to get out my acrylics for the first time since May and paint a little landscape so that I can teach it to some friends who are coming over tomorrow for our first painting party. Thanks again for a lovely video and wow so pleased for you that the subscribers are going up!

The universe works in mysterious ways - I nearly didn't pst this video today but decided to do it right before I left the house! 🤣 I'm glad it was there waiting for you and your morning coffee! It's cold and dark here now, so I'm eating 'borrel' and sipping a Dutch beer. 😎 The Derwent drawing pencils are sublime aren't they? I think I'm going to be taking the whole set with me on my trip to the UK in January, if they'll fit nicely in my little pencil case, they're chunkier than other brands. 🤞 Oh, excited for the acrylics! Will you put it on IG so I can see? I'm going to dedicate a whole month to getting used to my acrylics. But it has to be a month when I'm not traveling anywhere as I have no intention of taking tubes with me! 🤪 And a painting party sounds like the best fun! I joined an 'urban sketchers' group here in the North Netherlands, but nothing ever happens, so I struggle to find like-minded people who want to hang out and draw or paint. Sigh. Have a fab time! 😎 And thank you! I was very surprised to wake up on Christmas Eve and see my subscribers and views had SHOT UP overnight. 🤯 Have a fab rest of your day Kilby! 😘

Ha ha ha, good to know I'm not alone in feeling this way! 🤪🤣❤️ (Said as I test some pens on an 'old but rediscovered' sketchbook which had only ever been used for drawing.... 👀)
Oh my goodness! Those second lot of pencils went on the paper so smooth!! So satisfying!! I’ll definitely have to look at getting myself some of those!! X

Use a lighter hand with the Polychromos and they won’t dent the paper so much

You should try the blue Kum pencil sharpener, it has to types of sharpeners , first one sharpeners the wood then the second one sharpens the lead , Blackwing sell the same sharpener but they have put their name on it ( collaboration) and they sell it at a much higher price . You can pick the original Kum sharpener up from Jackson’s. I had purchased mine from a different shop and can highly recommend it . I use Blackwing pearl pencils .

They are between 2-4b , I think , they are supposed to be balanced. I find them soft-ish , just nice . Jackson’s have them in stock .

I want to try those faber castell watercolor markers one day and I plan to eventually get those derwent drawing pencils TT
The markers are gorgeous! I have two more color waiting in my Jacksons basket for my 'Christmas money' shop! 🤣 And if you can get the full set of Derwent on offer, they'll last you a long time! 😘

Oooo, that’s some beautiful items you bought this month! I have art supply envy again, despite the fact, as mentioned before I need to sell so many supplies I bought on a whim, and didn’t even open them up to swatch!! Yes, I am hugely embarrassed. I shall simply have to live through you and a few others I follow. Seriously, I feel like an art store. If it’s not used, I shall sell as I want the extra cash to give to my daughter and her Fiancé Sarah’s honeymoon travelling the length of Italy… So romantic, and very much worth having less stuff untouched around me. Have a wonderful 2024 with your own wedding to plan for - oooo (again), will you design your own dress? 🖌️🎨👩🏻🎨❤️❤️

You can love vicariously through me! 🤣 Though saying that I have determined 2024 to be the year of LESS buying of art materials and more of putting what I have to good use... so we'll see how that works out! 😬 The honeymoon sounds like an incredible trip - I'm sure you're super excited and proud. My OH mum is very excited about ours, and it's making me teary each time that my own Mum isn't here to enjoy the excitement - she would have loved it. But heigh-ho. 👀 And absolutely I'm making my own dress! It'll probably be a corset and skirt combo to *look* like a dress but gives me the option of wearing one or both after the wedding too. 🤞 And I will be sharing it over on my other channel too! 😎❤️😘
I have both black wing sharpeners and they work really well, and I use the moleskin e watercolor book for all of my watercolor, gouache and ink swatches..it’s a great record for everything I have…

I love that Blackwing pencil sharpener - you'll have to let us know how well it works.
It IS a thing of beauty - but I got some Blackwing pencils for Christmas and none of them (or other pencils) will sharpen to a point. I suspect it's an issue with the blade which I've seen a few others mention, so I'm going to be sending an email to Palomino to see about a replacement! 😬
They have channels for crackling fires why not peeling paint? Happy New Year🎉!

Well... they may be mass produced in England, but still closer to me than China! 😉
@@EveAshford it doesn't matter where are you from, good supplies are good supplies. I'm from Argentina, and guess what, everything imported is very pricy, not only because the taxes, but mostly because the distance. We are in the a_hole of the globe. Aaand, nationaly produced art supplies are sh_t, or even some are not produced here at all. I preffer pay the prices of "mass produced" suplies like derwent, than be suffering with stuff just because the "supporting local business" facade. Be grateful
I'm not 'ungrateful' but it's a fact of life that supporting businesses that are closer to you is better for the environment - and generally speaking - ethically for those who work for the company too. It's unfortunate that the art supplies produced in Argentina aren't up to scratch - but perhaps if they had a government that supported small businesses and their growth, there would be good quality products. 😬
@@EveAshford well, the new goverment is aiming that. We are moving from decades of socialism to somewhat free market. Please take note, try to be far away from woke policies, so that the whole world can still enjoy derwent
Having consideration for the environment, the non-exploitation of workers and various politics is not indulging in 'woke' policies... and I'd ask you to refrain from being so negative and judgmental here in my online space. Thank you. I haven't said anything about 'the whole world' not enjoying Derwent. I'm advocating for myself to use products that are made closer to home. You do you.
