During the writing sample your sound dipped and the camera was upside down. Just so you know. It did not spoil my enjoyment of your entertaining review.
Pop.
Interesting! Looks like a particularly dangerous wasp..
I agree! :) If this pen was rigged to give a soft "buzz" anytime someone reached for it, they'd stay away or, at least, hesitate! Not a bad idea for all those pen borrowers that never ask permission!
Another great review of a most interestingly designed pen. Love the way that Diplomat just comes out with different variations on the model.👏👏👏👏👏👏
Volume issues again, Doctor Brown, until about 7 minutes in, when it was suddenly fine.
They are releasing the Elox soon in a black with bright blue stripes. If I can find that in an extra-extra-fine, I will be VERY interested in it!
The Aero is one of my favorite pens, a very smooth writing experience. I'm hoping to pick up the Elox soon because I love the look of it.
I love my Elox. Very cool looking pen....the black and orange combo is one of my favourite colour combinations. Writes really really well.
Very fancy pen, thank you for to your review, looking forward to your next presentation.
Thanks, as always, Stephen! Personally, I very much like the looks of this pen - my old university's colors are orange and black so that is a bonus. I have the orange Diplomat Aero with the standard steel medium nib that is spectacular. I have no experience with their gold nibs.
Thank you, Stephen. And thank you, Joost. I appreciate you both for making these reviews possible.
Another great review -I agree! I love my Aero. I would love a gold nib, but the cost is absurd. I think I will get one for the next “big occasion”, like repaying my student debt or 40th birthday (whichever comes first).
thank you for your review. I bought this pen because of the finish and was very surp at the quality and smoothness of the steel nib. so much so, I opted not to get the gold nib. Kudos to Diplomat for making such a good pen. if there is one criticism is that the section, while long needed to be slightly wider, but not much.
the closing of the pen is so satisfying with its "snap". it is worthy of being a fidget, if you know what I mean.
I realli like this pen and your presentation, but i'm more interested in the Matrix one 😊
What a cool-looking pen. How do they come up with new designs after 150 years? Yay for metal pens, too.
Video upside down. Volume much lower during presentation of a nib.
Really great design. I do have an orange Diplomat Aero and because of a mistake from a shop sending me this pen, I've had an opportunity to compare steel and gold M nibs - the gold one writes so nicely I decided to keep it. It has this superb feeling of smooth, springy contact with a paper, writing by just touching. Normally I do not like metal sections and I do avoid such pens; here it does not matter, it is so ideal in my hand.
Side note: when I have ordered my pen from an online shop, I chose a Broad nib. They have sent a M steel. When I notified them, they have sent another pen - with M gold. Then another M steel. At this point I gave up and simply sent back most of their shipment, on their cost. So, if anyone has a Broad nib and would like to exchange for a Medium - inside EU - feel free to contact me.
A fine pen. Diplomat is often wrongly overlooked. I have an Esteem -- is it just me, or do a lot of fountain pen names seem to be the same kind of compensating names we find in hot sauces? -- which is one of my best work pens. Never uninked. Nice feedback and line variation.
The modern pens - especially of such an utilitarian type - are just so incredibly uninspiring :) It’s like with cars: they used to be pieces of art, now every car must mimic a soap dish. There used to be Watermans, Wahl Eversharps, Mabie Todds, wet noodles, and now: this for 177€. Incredible :)
Love your videos, but please turn up the volume! I crank it up and can't hear you.
If you are looking for a pen that will last a lifetime, Diplomat is an excellent choice. Their nibs are terrific. I prefer my Excellence A2 over this model because I don't like textured barrels. Also, they collect dust and flakes of skin, and are a minor irritation when writing.
I also prefer the Diplomat Excellence A2. It's a marvelous pen. I've had several Diplomats, and their consistency and quality is beyond reproach. I just found the grip on the Aero too narrow and slippery for my use.
@@marilyngardner4269 The A2 has one of most comfortable grip sections I own. Its long, resin covered section with no threads makes it a winner. I wish more pen makers paid more attention to grip comfort. Another nice touch about the A2 is it has a rubber o-ring to keep the barrel screwed tightly to the section. I'm not sure why they aren't on the Elox and Aero.
But the click to shut….never sure THAT’s a lifetime thing. I see myself 3 years in and suddenly with a $200 pen that no longer seals well.
@@rztour I have not heard of any cap failures... yet. If I had my way, Diplomat should put the 1/3 twist cap found on their A+ model, and also use it with their smooth barrel A2s.
“Pop” of color! Indeed.
I prefer this design to the Aero, but I will never be able to justify the price no matter how cool it looks!
Yes, it is out of range for me as well. Which is a good thing, as I already have too many pens. Thank you, Diplomat!
@@ichirofakename I feel exactly the same! 😆
Both are ugly pens imo, to be honest :) Ugly, metal, and with boring, stiff steel nibs. Just sooo dull and soulless it hurts…
@@bw6230 Sounds like the price is not of concern to you.
@@ichirofakename Indeed - I wouldn’t want it even for fee :) It’s blatantly overpriced, of course, though. It should be max 20€ for what it is.
Luvd the pen, Stephen tell joost to send me some pens to try! Ha, please for me put the next video totally upside down, give the haters something to really hate! Jude
Love Diplomat Pens but this design wasn't for me. Really enjoy your reviews but not sure the upside down writing portion was on purpose. Normally not that way.
Looks like the same clip as the aero. It's really very flimsy. Clips are the most neglected part, even on high end pens.
< not a fan of the metal grip sections
Curious looking pen - looks like a wasp with an identity crisis. I much prefer the Diplomat Excellence series.
The problem is many pens are now secretly made and packaged in China--all types of pens in all price ranges. The Rolex from China at about $2000 is said to be superior to the Swiss Rolex now in every part but one that Rolex made difficult to copy. The proof is enormous numbers of returns which pen stores do not reveal from Japanese pens, the most meticulously made pens in the world when from Japan, not China. If your Japanese pen does not shut tight, hard starts, or has a tiny scratch, you can bet it was probably made in China. China also copies highly collectible and valuable sneakers that expert dealers can only discover through a meticulous examination of the box! Some tiny detail in the sneaker box reveals that the Nike sneaker is a copy, and sneakers are far more difficult for Chinese to copy exactly than a pen. So buying original Chinese pens makes sense since they may be making most of the brand names from Japan and China by now, sad to say.
