  • Diplomat fountain pens are some of the most underrated pens in the fountain pen community. However, many will say that you are hard pressed to find better writing pens anywhere. The Excellence A series is for the professional, or for those who prefer a more conservative looking fountain pen. The Aero, with its Zeppelin inspired design, might be more for those who like some flare, but not a lot of bling. Which one strikes your fancy?

Recently bought the a2. The a2 is very professional looking compared to the aero. Outstanding pens.

I'm with you. I have both, like both and prefer the cool styling of the Aero. Both have very solid nibs -- really never felt the need for a gold nib on these -- but both the capping per se and the non-posting of the Aero find it left out of my rotation for carry a good chunk of the time while the Excellence A2 is a regular user.

If you want to change nibs on the Aero, you have to buy a nib/section combo- you can’t buy a nib on its own which is expensive.

That's true. I'm seeing them at $40 from Jet Pens. However, if you don't care about the logo, the standard Jowo nibs work on these pens. Most higher end pen companies sell their spare nibs with the section. At least that's what I've found.

honestly its not worth to buy nibs alone, you gonna have extra nib which is not used , just buy a pen with a nib, there are plenty of cheap pens with jowo6.

The Aero is the more rugged design. The A plus/A2 you need pouches. Onyx?

a2 has better clip and you dont need a pouch, who cares about the finishing. Its kinda overpriced, its like a 100euro pen but not 200euro like how they list it nowadays.

Nice looking pens, but for some reason I really don’t like metal pens, I own quite a lot of fountain pens and the only metal one in my collection is a Pilot Capless/ Vanishing Point.

Metal pens can too heavy for some, especially during long writing sessions. Also, a lot of people people don't like the polished metal grips that are on many metal pens. Thankfully, we have some very nice acrylic options available to us.

@@thepenman357 It’s not so much the weight, I just don’t like the cold feel of them, I have a nice collection of Italian made resin and celluloid pens and I love them.
