  • Today we go through the top 5 things I HATE about my Volkswagen iD.4 AWD Pro S. This car has a MSRP of over $54,000 and has some features that should come standard at this price point. Lets run through was those are!

In the setup you choose if you want only the driver door to open (its a safety option) or all doors to open when approaching the vehicle. The 360 camera is an option which must be ordered. The new software is great, but one needs to choose user everytime just like most EVs, but the old one had issues.
Some of your complaints is then down to not getting to know your car.

It’s so refreshing to see an honest review of this pathetic excuse for a car. There are so many VW fanboys that make excuse after excuse for this car.

Tesla Model Y: best selling car in 2023 Worldwide.
    Over all, not electric only.
Amazing Software, battery technology and awesome price.

I have the 24 AWD Pro S Plus with a redesigned Infotainment sys and buttons which did not make it into the 62kw version. Also 360 view camera. You can also set the ID4 to lock/unlock rear doors on proximity..

Mate, some constructive feedback: run your video through some stabilizing software or use a better camera. The camera shake was so bad I couldn't get past the 4 min mark.

I’m still working out try kinks on there. The camera is stabilized and so is my lens, I have pretty shaky hands and it sucks lol. It’s a work in progress! I appreciate the feedback 👊🏻

Something notable about a lot of german cars and especially VW is that they sell you everything as a single piece upgrades. Other manufacturers offer you different packets, like a "sports" packet or dynamic, plus, etc.
So while I absolutely agree with your views and love the insight, I also can't help but notice that when I go ro the "configuration" page of the ID.4, a few features, like the 360° cam, are available as optional upgrades. With others you'd get them in the "plus" package above the base configuration, but with VW (and as said many other german brands), the higher packages seem to mostly enhance battery capacity and the drive train, but glass roofs, other interior coatings, more cameras, remote locking and so on are all things that are sold separately.
I'm not sure how I should feel about it, I like that it's not a subscription or that you have to pay for 10 features in a package if you only want / need 2, but it creates a space where there's so many configuration options, buying used cars might be more difficult than it needs to be and buying new is really depending on if your dealership even gives you those options or simply sells you one of their "premade packages".
Ofc this doesn't change that missing those features at such a price point (and likely no chance to upgrade them afterwards) is infuriating. Add the (imo) abysmal looks of their weird middle console screen and the increased amount of touch controls over reliable mechanical parts and my distain for a lot EVs grows, not because I hate EVs, but because they're the epitome of "make things worse by making them 'better'" and "modern for the sake of being modern". Add subscriptions for all kinds of stuff, starting at their software or even hardeare features (like seat heating in BMW) and then subscription costs for some charger companies and so on and it becomes a pure money sink in my case, even if gas was 3x as much. I'd love to have an EV outside of driving them occasionally from others, but I'd have to drive it for 15+ years almost everdays to currently offset any of the additional costs that come from sales price and all the after market charges they add. Now add having to buy the 360° cam in configuration and paying ~1000 or more for it again, and it takes me yet another half a year to realistically offset that cost.
In the end, okay cars, great driving experience, good service, supreme quality, but bad prices, sh** user design and terrible design choices.

You bought the trim without 360 deg camera, then complain about it missing?
Also, you can set up which door open when you unlock he driver door. Try reading the manual.
The piano black surfaces are annoying, yes but this a design choice that is pretty obvious before you buy it. If you don't like that, get a different car.
The touch elements on the steering are horrible agreed, they swichtched back to physical in the face-lift.

Id4 has so many small mistakes that makes me almost angry when I drive it. I don’t understand how it’s even possible to get such stupid decisions through to production without someone just saying NO! I mean VW built cars forever by now.
Designer: “My idea is that we should put piano black on every surface that you touch. Anyone have an opinion or is it a go?”
675000 VW employees: “sounds great! Piano black is the best ever material for car interiors. Everyone loves it!”
Any customer after five minutes in the car: “I HAAAAATE PIANO BLACK”
Touch controls that SUCK, OK for driver profile EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME I DRIVE, Auto-off that cannot be disabled, no stand-still climate more than 30 minutes, those window buttons, no frunk, no battery pre-heating, the mapping of +1/+10 on the cruise control buttons and so on. How the hell could that get through?
Such a nice car with such annoying details.

If I touch my driver door's handle on my ID.4 (no need to open it), all doors unlock.
    Check your settings.
(Or it's an US only limitation?)

    • @RobinKnapp
      @RobinKnapp Před 5 dny

The setting must be called something like "Single door opening". If enabled it opens all doors after touching twice I believe.
You can also set it to open all doors when you approach the car without touching the front door handle.

Just for saying, the car you tested is the old version. The new version has a LOT of improvements and costs less. You can now imagine what is left of the value of the old one...

Damn, this is actually a useful review. I am in the process of buying a new ev, and the decision was and still is between Tesla 3 and ID3, or perhaps a Jaguar I-Pace.

I’m glad I could help out in some way! I’ve never considered jaguar’s options but I bet it’s a great car too! There are some insane lease deals on Rivians and Lucids right now too ($600-$700/mo)

You went from a luxury vehicle to a VW. There had to be a reason you chose the VW. There are plenty of other EVs that would have given you the features so you would be “going insane” or “driving you nuts.”

Each of your criticisms has been known for years. You should inform yourself before making a purchase. This is completely incomprehensible to me.

This video was filmed with a shaky potato. And the owner seems to be way to sensitive to just random shit. Click the button on the fob, open the door and let the dog in. No big deal. 😅

He’s talking about things that *he* doesn’t like. Most cars have these features standard at much lower price point.
Just because you can do something a different way doesn’t mean the a convenient way shouldn’t exist

Why do I need the fob? Just walk up any door / trunk and open it. Whats the point of KEYLESS if you need the key... lmao
