  • This is a video on how to brew a double-shot of coffee using a generic 3.5 bar steam espresso machine. This method is based on my experience of brewing coffee regularly with this type of machine for over a year.

Great video. Thanks for posting. These machines produce coffee on the same principle as a moka pot. They use steam pressure and not a pump to force water through the coffee grinds to get strong coffee but not true espresso. The advantage with this machine over a moka pot being the coffee grounds are not exposed to the heat like they are with a moka pot which can spoil flavour. Great informative video 👍

I used to have a DeLonghi version of a machine like this & it produced a nice result, typical italian style coffee very similar to a Mokapot, but like the guy says *not* an espresso.
The thing to watch for with these machines is that the locking lugs round the sides of the basket handle are made of metal *NOT* plastic - for example, the "Tower T13014MNB Cavaletto" has plastic locking lugs, like the DeLonghi had - the problem this gives is that (every time you use it) you are locking plastic onto metal - and the plastic just wears out - you really want to be locking metal on metal.
At 2:36 in this video, you can clearly see the locking lugs for this handle are metal.
