    I just drove 300 miles on a 22 limited max rental.
    I can’t believe I’m going to say this…
    Ford did a very good job with this thing.
    It’s comfortable, nimble for its size, the turn radius is surprising.
    The seats are awesome.
    Even the 3.5 was more than adequate.
    The transmission is the same dreadful 10 speed GM have on their cruisers.
    I would buy this if it had the V8, a rig this size needs the rumble, the subtle V8 drone.
    Hope it helps

    This vehicle is leaving other big SUVs like the Dodge Durango, Chevy Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon in the dust. Very nice Ford! This Expedition looks very sharp, no matter what the trim level.

      I rented one this week in El Paso, it's nice but not leaving anything in the dust. What it has going for it is the interior space and grunt from the EcoBoost. But the steering ratio is too slow for my taste. As big as it is, there's too much wheel sawing, I don't understand why they couldn't have given it a quicker rack. The GM's and Durango are much better in this respect. Also, I slid the passenger seat back and a loose screw popped out from somewhere. Additionally the lower trim piece around the instrument cluster was misaligned.

      Durango much better in looks and value. Plus you can't compare a big 3 row SUV to an XL suv which is what the MAX is.

    Excellent review by these guys. They explained what the differences were between the trim levels were and what were standard options or if the options were available in other trim levels in more detail than most others do which helps a lot in deciding which trim level to get and also gave some price break downs.

    Nice review as always. Does engine sound come out of the speakers? I’m glad they are letting you hear the turbo. IMO hearing them spool up is half of the fun of having them. Do you remember what the redline is? Can you take it up to at least 5000 rpm? If start stop does not engage with hot turbos, that’s a big plus for me. I’ve always been concerned over start stopping turbo engines for that reason.

    • @bubbalo3388
      @bubbalo3388 Před 5 lety +1

      Yep. I am thinking the same thing. Buy a one to two year old one and it will save you a lot of money. Once the purchase agreement is signed on a new car and you roll it car off of the lot the car is already worth thousands less. And cars that expensive depreciate a lot compared to what you paid vs a more affordable one per ratio. Let the original owner eat up the depreciation. They can afford the loss if they can afford to buy it new.

  • @Cleaning_Hero
    @Cleaning_Hero Před 2 lety +1

    Even though I am a V8 guy, I’m glad that there is a full size SUV option that had a turbo 6 cyl that a lot of people like me tend to love. At some point soon, the GM big SUV’s will be the only ones offering V8’s, as other manufacturers such as FCA/Stellantis and Toyota/Lexus are switching to twin-turbo 6 cylinders like Ford did years ago. If V8 people tend to like the performance and experiment of Ford’s turbo 6, then it must mean it accelerates effortlessly like a V8 and has a good sound to it that satisfies them. I’m beginning to lean more towards an Expedition than a Tahoe/Yukon since GM is having major quality issues with their V8 engines. The more recent turbo 6 engines from Ford have very positive ownership feedback, even from long-term owners.

    2019 Ford Expedition Max Platnium. Bought used at 45k miles, rear AC broke in shop 20 days, 1st to 2nd gear jerk in shop for 7 days. 10 speed tranny overheated towing nothing in shop for 24 days, and this is the 2nd replacement tranny. One Seat belt sensor defective air bag light on - this causes the air bag system to NOT DEPLOY, in shop for 7 days. Keyless entry not working after any rain. Drove 11k miles over 20 months, in ford shop 58 days. I would say this suv was rushed into production.

  • @bubbalo3388
    @bubbalo3388 Před 5 lety +12

    I was never a fan of Ford in the past because of the exterior designs and interior designs also, especially the one piece molded seats with no adjustable headrests. But with the new Explorers and recent test drive of the Expedition I have changed my mind.
    I want an Expedition! It has more room than the competitors and you don't feel crammed in. I have a 2001 Yukon XL which is pretty large but sitting in the back rows it is pretty cramped when it comes to legroom. Yeah I know it's not a newer one but the new ones aren't much better.
    The only things about the Expedition I am skeptical about are the turbo engine. The turbos are something else that can go wrong and it will not be a cheap repair. And the other things are everything is electric operated or controlled by computer chips of which more things can go wrong and not a cheap fix and odds are that if one electronic thing or chip goes wrong then you are SOL until you get it fixed because odds are a lot of other things will be tied to the problem. But that's how a lot of cars are being built these days. Technology is not cheap to fix. For example if you damage just a bumper these days with sensors in them it can cost you thousands to fix. I had rear bumper damage once on one of my vehicles that had sensors and sonars in it and the repair technician told me that if the damage was just a few more inches over and damaged the sonar it would of costed $800 just for the one sonar part. Doesn't take much damage to total a car these days because of the expensive tech parts.

    • @Jaymac720
      @Jaymac720 Před 5 lety +3

      Andy's Shop but it’s far less practical than IRS in an SUV. The IRS improves interior space efficiency and suspension dynamics. With a solid axle, the rear suspension moves as a whole and the frame has to go up and over it, eating into the space in the body. As far as modern SUVs go, the solid axle is pointless

      Incorrect. Ford does not own it anymore but it's a Jaguar Land Rover owns RR. Tata motors has a history of shity engines. Before Ford bought LR, those vehicles were still shity cars.

      @@jacobthompson4921 it was delayed until the 2021 model year. You can look on gm authority or any other number of automotive websites. They found out it was being pushed back a month or so ago. The 2021 model year is actually the year 2020. If it is going to be released next summer, typically they will reveal it that spring, but its possible they could show it sooner.
