    would you say this is easier/better than attaching it in blender?

    • @BlizzyFox
      @BlizzyFox  Před 11 měsíci +7

      For the average user yes.
      This works well with armatures that have bone prefix/suffixes added on which makes merging in blender a pain as you have to fix the vertex group names. In blender you have to also sometimes copy and reparent bones from one armature to another in the cases of straps or other dynamic bones. Finally combining in blender is DESTRUCTIVE you permanently modify the armature of the base/clothing and you must export your edit as a new fbx.
      That said you must use blender to do a number of optimizations such as combining skinned meshes, or adjusting UVs/materials etc. These are always destructive anyway. If you're not combining skinned meshes optimizing or making other edits to the model I see no reason to open blender for attaching clothing.

    • @unghh
      @unghh Před 7 měsíci +1

      attaching in blender is simpler, most of the time all you need is a weight transfer on the mesh with premade stuff

      Yeah but it's not as user friendly for optimization. And the time you save using a unity tool I'd say is worth the few bucks it costs.

    Great tutorial. This helped in a case when there was no prefab for clothes. ( At first clothes did not follow movement, but then I found out the reason - cloth meshes did not follow clothes armature. After parenting them this armature linking in Unity worked. )

      Hey I am having this issue. How do you parent them?

  • @BlizzyFox
    @BlizzyFox  Před rokem +14

    So why do this instead of bone re-parenting? Not only is this method much faster and non-destructive. Its much more optimized for essentially free. With bone re-parenting there are lots of duplicate bone transforms that bloat the avatar. VRC Fury re-writes the skinned mesh renderer of accessories to use existing bones instead. The VRCFury approach is also far less prone to error. There's zero chance of dragging the bone into the wrong parent. The setup using VRC Fury also can be completely removed from the avatar easily and doesn't require unpacking prefabs. You don't need to start over to remove an accessory. I just overall love VRC Fury's non-destructive workflow. But it's not perfect for everything.

    1. Why not turn off the object in full? (my added clothes came all in pieces, and would take a long time to toggle them each and idk how to make groups)
    2. I didn't link any blendshapes, is that a problem? They're to clothes at this point.
    3. My armature link is to the hips on the original avatar... all good?
    4. I want to eventually link a body with all of it's glory, blendshapes, ect... but sometimes they come with their own ID, like they are their own avatar... ugh.. I don't know the proper way to mesh everything together, they have the same base.

    Looking around the comments, I can see why this script exists. It's for people who are too lazy to learn how to use Blender and want to do everything inside of Unity alone. I can't recommend it for that reason, as everyone should learn how to use Blender, as doing so will give them significantly more control of how their avatar looks and functions.
