- The optional 6 speed manual on the Honda
Gold-Wing is superior to the DCT
transmission when it comes to a more immersive and authentic motorcycle rider experience. Utterly smooth shifting, and most likely longer lasting than a DCT as well.

First of all the DCT is a seven speed dual clutch transmission. 85% of Goldwing buyers disagree with you as that’s the split in sales of manual vs. DCT. I’ve owned 3 previous generation Wings and two 2018’s. One manual and a DCT. I will never purchase another bike that has a manual transmission. NEVER. My 2021 should be here in a couple of weeks. DCT Tour with Airbag.
I am a clutch user for 30 years now. I never ever thought for a second that DCT will be acceptable. The regular GW shifts so nicely, no doubts, however testing the DCT got me so hooked trying it first time ever, I could not refused contract one. The ride is unreal for me. I honestly don't see myself going back to clutch. I can not explain.
probably dct is cool but manuel is the winner always
I'm planning on buying a new HGWT; - DCT? Nope. I bought my 1st motorized 2-wheeled vehicle >45 years ago, & the 1st 2 were mopeds, getting me to college & local job & back. DCT, regardless of the benefits, would remind me too much of them, & to me at least, turn it into an 850 lb. moped. I've rented 2 HGWT for a total of 10 days, & both were the manual shift version. IMO, shifting is an integral & immersive part of motorcycling. The DCT would remove some control & feeling of being 1 with the bike. Not to mention, that the DCT version is more expensive, heavier, & I've heard of it being more difficult to control in low speed, esp cornering. I also think, more likely to need expensive & specialized repairs. I think that the jury is still out on any difference in fuel mileage. Bottom line, buy what you love, love what you ride, & do it often & safely.
For me there's no question, I will always have a manual transmission motorcycle. The clutch and shift lever are major connections to the motorcycle, I won't give those up... Plus, shifting is more fun than not 😁 As new Goldwing owner coming off a Victory XC, I'm thoroughly impressed with the GW and like you I'm on a motorcycle, I don't want to feel like I'm in a car.
I have a dct and it’s perfect for me. To each his own.
You say you are riding a six speed automatic clearly your not we have no proof you've rode the 7 speed dct to compare to it so you should ride the dct and realise that it's the better bike I find most people that comment like this have not rode the dct just think I must have a clutch that's the way I have always done it guess what quick shifters are slowing taking that away on most bikes
I come from Harley now to the Goldwing DCT and could not be any happier. I do not miss the clutch at all and for anyone saying you're missing out with a DCT doesn't have a clue what they are talking about.
Try bump starting a dct when you have a weak battery and please don't let rain water get in the dct controls, ive heard it can be a nightmare.
Half the fun on a motorcycle is shifting it manually.
Been riding for 50 years. My 1st DCT. Love it!! Never going back.
You will enjoy the GW, as far as the Manual or DCT, I say pick the one you like the most and go with it. I prefer the DCT I
I rode both the dct and the manual, I preferred the manual the dct was weird felt like it shifted a lot and took some of the fun out of it. Like driving an automatic Porsche or Ferrari I would never buy a sports car with an automatic. I know several people that bought this bike and then traded out to get other bikes their reasons were it was a great bike but felt like driving a civic. They wanted more of that visceral feeling you get with a traditional bike like a big V twin and I get that going from a FJR to a Raider.
I never rode either version, I just bought a DCT, and I couldn't be happier...
I have a 19 DCT trike never had a bike before and it’s wonderful. All I have to do is ride. But to each his own. Did enjoyed your view
Good to meet you today and I had a friend that bought one of these several years ago and first thing he did was bring it to my shop. Let me ride it and I was very impressed. !!
I own a 2018 DCT model and I curious to know what data you are basing your opinion about the reliability of the DCT vs the 6MT, when you said "most likely longer lasting than the DCT"?
nice job. Your recorded video really did convey the smoothness of the bike. I have been riding a Honda 1300 CTX and just put $'s down on a '22, 6-speed GW. Really looking forward to the lower RPM (compared to my 1300 CTX) and the ability to handle more miles on a long tour. Safe travels.

I’m also looking at new 2018 holdovers.. I’m also considering a manual (tested both and loved both) .. did you lose the Reverse with the manual on the Tour? I know I lose that feature on the regular GW (no trunk) .. my current bike (Victory) is way heavier than a GW but wish that had Reverse
