Hi Yammie, Loved this video! and River Road is one of my "warm up" rides a lot of the time. I've got the 2019 DCT and yes, it handles great on the twisties. No need to worry about the leans... the "peg feelers" will scrape long before you loose traction. In addition to the Standard model features, the DCT has walking mode both forward and reverse, automatic with paddle shifter override, and manual mode with the paddles, and no clutch. I really debated going with the DCT, but I'm glad I did it. I really don't miss the clutch in traffic, but slow speed maneuvering... well that's a new skill. Still super easy to ride... in fact, the only hard part was not grabbing for the clutch and shift peg. Let me know if you ever want to try the DCT and I'll be happy to take a ride. Ride Safe! and keep the videos coming.

The chips were a proper presentation of the Goldwing's capabilities. When my daughter was 15 she worked at a local McDonalds and I would frequently pick her up from work with the Goldwing. She would eat an order of fries on the way home in total comfort. I had that Goldwing for 10 years, the longest I have keep any bike in my adult ADHD life. I've had sport bikes, cruisers, standards and currently a F850GSA and a KLX300D - a very large assortment of bikes and the Goldwing was the best motorcycle I have ever owned period. I frequently pulled off 600 mile day rides just for the fun of it on that bike and loved it. Thanks to Yammie and Spite for not going out there and trashing the Goldwing "just because" but appreciating it for what it is and how good it is at that.

I'm poised to buy a new Goldwing, rode both, liked the DCT but the slow speed maneuvering was scary, as my 40+ years of riding a manual had me scared to rely on the DCT to do the feathering of it's clutch to keep me balanced while doing full lock maneuvering. Haven't had enough seat time to figure out if I could do it.... thats going to be my deciding factor 🤔

      @darroncrick9993 Před 2 lety +9

@@jpayne8096 As a DCT owner, the key is to use the creeper gear for low speed. Sure it is slower than the manual bike but for the rest of the time you have the DCT which transforms the bike. A DCT Wing is sensational, a manual is just another bike you will get sick of and trade in.

You never got out of fifth gear. They dropped the tank size down by one gallon when making the current version lighter but I get the same range out of my tank as I did on my 2008 Wing with one gallon more. Now they have 4 valves per cylinder and a square bore/stroke. The old 1800's had 103 HP but got worse mileage. Loving my '21. Good job.

Rode my dad's '08 Goldwing around for a few hundred miles last year, just crazy bikes. Was pulling 30deg plus of lean at 50mph 2 up, and generally screaming around everywhere. Compared to my 80's Honda it felt like a nimble little sportbike (above 25mph anyways).
Was always amazed by the confidence it inspired, threw that damn near 1k lb beast around the corners all day. Could squeal tire with brakes or throttle at pretty much any speed, yet lots of control. Not twitchy, but very responsive. Arguably one of the best bikes, definitely the best touring bike ever. My dad sold his for personal reasons, but I plan on buying my own soon. As someone who likes to ride all day, there's no better bike for it. This is where Honda's insane motorcycle engineering really shines. It doesn't seem like a bike like this could be possible, but I promise it is. You haven't lived till you've ridden a bike with a flat 6 with more liters than some sedans lol.

The FJR could have been a contender for best bike ever, but they messed up the transmission big time. Typical Japanese, they seem to not understand that Americans need an overdrive 6th gear, not a wasted close ratio useless 6th gear that is only good for 45mph. They finally put a 6th gear on the FJR, but didn't put on an overdrive, and the gear can crack. Maybe in 2030, motorcycles will finally get a true overdrive transmission.

I may not enjoy riding all types, but enjoy watching others and hearing the feedback from everyone on the different bikes, styles and environments. To me, it's not what you ride, but the fact that you ride!! Its not the destination but the journey.. I enjoy the comfort of the touring bikes. Of course, I do like my Ultra Limited. I ride with guys that ride, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Victory, BMW, Indian...We all enjoy riding and the brotherhood and sisterhood... that said, now that Yam has experienced the Goldwing, now a comparison to an Ultra Limited or Road Glide should be on the horizon. Dudes, I've got the same exact configuration and it's well worth every penny. I've had mine since Oct of last year and already have 3,500 miles on it. That's impressive in itself due to most of my riding having been done in sub-45 degree temps here in Utah. Just got back from a nice long trip down to AZ with it, and it was everything I expected on a long journey. Truly can't wait to rack up the miles on it this summer!
You guys failed to mention that it has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It really is completely tech'd out! I'm happy to have the 6 speed manual, but the DCT guys are extremely happy with theirs, as well. I'm only 35, so I still prefer to "row my own gears," but I can definitely see the allure of the DCT for the older guys with arthritis, or just want an effortless experience. Truthfully, with all the features, the exhaust note and how well the bike handles in this current iteration, you can see they were trying to capture a younger market, and they definitely succeeded. I intend to keep this bike for hundreds of thousands of miles, like many Goldwing owners. This, and my 250 Rally really are the perfect combination of bikes for people who are looking for a "Jack of all trades" couple of bikes.

I have had several 70's and 80's Goldwings. The great thing is that once you are rolling they handle like just about any other Honda from 500cc up. Honda built amazing machines throughout it's entire history, and all of them are a joy to ride, each in their own rite. The 1st factory Interstate models fully equipped for touring came out in 1981 with the 1100 flat-4, and the 1st Aspencade was on the 1982 GL1100 platform. Even then they came with helmet intercoms, radios, tape decks and CB radios. The 1985 GL1200 was the first Goldwing available with fuel injection, and the GL1500-6 was the first one with and electric reversing gear, and fuel injection standard on all models. I have yet to own & ride any of the Goldwing sixes, but even the the 1981 CBX1000-6 was a pretty decent sport/touring bike for it's time, and a fun long-distance ride.
The only thing I rode that even came close was the 1885-1990 Suzuki GV1400 Cavalcade, which, in some ways, outdid even the Goldwing Aspencade 1200. It's a shame Suzuki did not keep the Cavalcade going to the present day.

Great video , love my 2019 DCS Tour. Was thinking about a BMW K1600 but glad I got a wing. No maintenance probs whatsoever. This review makes me think I made the right choice. Haven’t taken a long trip yet but I’m loving the twisties here in Pennsylvania!

If you want to see what a goldwing can do on a track two up check out Ari Henning and Zack Courts. They went two up on a dct wing around Laguna Seca. It's hilarious and amazing.

Had one a while back. Fantastic machine that handles well beyond what most folks understand until you give it a ride. Comfort is top notch. If I could afford a second bike, a DCT GW would be in serious consideration for coming home. My only issue is the width of the motor for foot position options...It can be addressed, but that monster engine is wide.

14:10 - I love this feature in newer cars, having the nav right in the gauge cluster. It makes it like having "pace notes" as they call them in rally racing.

Yeah especially cause this is the type of bike you'd buy to go places you haven't been before so the heads up would be really nice

was on a UK Motorway in '88....a Police Car slowed and sat alongside My 1200 Goldwing...and blipped the Siren once
I looked at the Officers inside the Car ..they were Laughing and pointing right behind me
My Wife was my Passenger and she was Knitting a Scarf while we were doing 70 MPH..!
yes..Goldwings are perfect Travelling Machines ...my one is now 37 Years Old ,and still joyful to ride.

I've seen a guy getting his Aspencade 1500 through a 4 by 8 meter figure 8 like it was nothing .
    Scraping floor boards and all.
    It's capable.
He took frequent trips into Belgiums Ardennes and Germany and vacations over the Alps to Italy and the Pyreneese mountains, into Spain.
An average of 20.000 km a year was not uncommon for him.
And that was just on the bike.
I also saw an 1800 goldwing with a sidecar and a trailer.
They were going from campsite to campsite.
Him, his wife as the two-up and two little kids in the sidecar.
Tent and the luggage in the trailer and in the compartments on the bike.
It had a coversion of the front end, to accommodate a car tyre, to compensate for the sidecar.
    Super cool.

My son and I rode river road up to the dam on Tuesday. I was laughing to myself over how you guys always pick on sport tourers like my Ninja 1000 as dad bikes, and then you show up on this? And LOVE it? Epic.

I have a 2010 Goldwing, it’s even heavier, yet it handles twisty roads so well! I have been on the Tail of the Dragon with many bikes now, and the GW handles it at least as well as any bike I’ve ridden! I haven’t taken a 2018+ for a ride yet, I’ve been told I’ll buy it instantly! My only gripe about this newer version is that it doesn’t seem to be as comfortable for a passenger as some of the older versions. I want to put my wife on the back for long periods of time, her comfort is paramount!! Great review!!!!

Breaking News! Spite relocates to Ybor City to join Shadetree Army and work at the Dirty Shame. Papa Yam suddenly loses his mind, begins identifying as a dad bagger, and he only rides the Goldwing on club days at the track. Whitney suddenly becomes the caretaker of Yammie Noob and the company soars to never before realized success by adding a new line of products for riders who own dogs.

I wish they'd make a CB 650r based modern Silverwing. Maybe they'd call it the Bronzewing?

Silverwing probably needs to atleast 1000cc or more , or else its just a crusier with fairings

I had 2 of the 500 cc Silverwings - very nice bikes for the time. In fact, that's what led to my first Goldwing. My wife loved the backseat on the Silverwing, but that 500 cc engine started to get sluggish when 2-up. So we moved up to the 86 GL1200 Goldwing - haven't looked back since. I'm now on my 6th Wing and still loving it. They've gotten better and better over time. At one point, I was averaging around 24k miles/year of riding, between commuting and long trips such as 3 Flags, plus all the miscellaneous weekend riding. I lived in California and would routinely lane-split on my Wing. Before my latest (2015 Wing), I looked real closely at other bikes - the only one that got serious consideration was the BMW K1600, and I ended up getting the Wing for about $5k cheaper.

Even my older 2003 Wing meets pretty much all the standards you set for this one. You honestly don't even feel a second person on the back regardless of the suspension settings.
