- The most important match of the most important tournament of your life is not the time to change the game forever.
When the stakes are at their highest, when everything is on the line, you’re not supposed to do the thing you’ve never done before. You’re not supposed to make everything re-think the way the game is played.
But the ROX Tigers couldn’t resist it. They were innovators, and they weren’t afraid to challenge everything people thought they knew about League of Legends.
But they were the world's last hope to stop the Demon King from conquering the world.

yet it’s not a game winning play. Ashe delayed Ekko for 7 secs, effectively killing 1 minion wave until Ekko got back. The winning play was actually Gorilla MF chase down and killed Faker on the mini map. If Faker got that recall, Rox’s push would
be over.

This Semifinal was the best series of League of Legends history. Period. The best no contest, watching this live was unreal.
Definately the last time where the two best teams in the World delivered on their expected level, on the big stage.

this was the first world championship i watched, i still have the plat icon for rox tigers. I didn't know much about the different teams at that time but i was deeply rooting for rox. I was so disappointed when they lost.

So true. At the time I was playing normals and had 0 clue about the game's professional scene, but I decided to watch the 2016 worlds when the knockout stage started. I somehow just connected to the Rox Tigers, and weirdly enough, got emotionally invested in them without really having much of a clue about what the players are like/their past. Was really sad when they lost to SKT, was even more sad when the team disbanded and I knew I couldn't root for them further down the line as I get more interested in the competitive scene. I wanted to buy the plat icon, but had no clue they would disband at the time.

The fact that this semifinal was more hype than the grand finals shows how it doesn’t have to be the final game for a tournament to be exciting
I'd even go as far as to say that this is the best Bo5 match in League of Legends history.
Pray is my all time favorite player. I’ll never forget watching play at LCK while he was on longzhu. I was the loudest in the studio, which is not normal for anyone in LCK studio. The English commentators, at the time, made a comment how there was a very passionate fan in the crowd lmao.

Maulik Ranolia yeah the finals have been crap and it really makes the whole tournaments feel anticlimactic. At least some of the BO5s have been good, like SKT vs MSF/RNG in 2017 or the IG vs KT in 2018.
@@williamhobbs4202 it’s just how trash the snowball meta is with overall champ hp being so low,once a team gets a lead it’s hard for the enemy team to do anything and they just roll over and die, it’s hard to have close series anymore since there are so many champs that just take over the game and dumpster the enemy team once they get a lead

I disagree, the key to winning in worlds, is consistency. They are a great team, but they aren't the most consistent team. The semi finals went from them dominating games with their surprise MF pick, but with that banned and Bengi back on the line up you can see they were overwhelmed in G5

I agree that Bengi should have been mentioned, that he saved SKT. BUT he was not 1 v 9 at game 4 and 5. Faker and Bengi's chemistry blossomed through both games, thats why they won. I do agree with you bengi is the MVP in that series but all of SKT stepped up.

bengi is the most crucial player that series because he unlock every single lane with his rotation and vision settings thats why game 4 and 5 is not 1v9
Man the two stories that made this series epic. First is the redemption of Bengi (with the Nidalee deny pick) for SKT. And the Ashe-MF botlane for ROX. Hands down the best series in Worlds history.
That was by far the best and my most favorite series to ever watch in league of legends. Even i questioned the MF support pick, only to watch that pick decimate skt for 2 straight games. Was on my seat the whole series, jaws dropping here and there, the outplays everywhere. Beautiful series, my all time 2nd fav team behind skt, they won me over with this series, sad to see them disband the very next year :/

Rox Tigers were my favorite team to watch by far. I started following them when they got in through the promotion tournament in Season 5 (my favorite season to play the game personally) and I watched every one of their games and always rooted for them. I miss them :(
I remember watching ROX vs SKT live with one of my close friends mere months after I started playing League. To this day watching that series is my favorite memory of League. Nothing will ever top the hype of watching the two best teams in the world go blow for blow on the biggest stage in the world
Watching this and thinking back about the ROX Tigers just makes my chest feel tight. All the players were lovable and they deserved a world championship. So unfortunate that at their best they had to fight against the best team in the history of the game.
Damn. Im crying as I watch this video. I love ROX Tigers, it broke my heart when they disbanded.
They were heroes in my eyes. They made the game look so fun to play.
I remember being 16 watching that semi final, I still feel the same goosebumps watching the arrow fly like I did back then
The number of incredible plays in that series was just mindboggling .... Pray's cross map Ashe arrow, Gorilla's support MF, Pray and Peanut's incredible 2v4 teamfight, Bengis Game 4 Nidalee, Faker dodging that gank 1v3... its ridiculous that 5 of the top 10 plays/picks in League history basically came from that series.

Watching since Season 1 and this was the greatest Bo5 (in terms of skills and sheer entertainment) I've ever witness and being there live made it even better.

I was there at MSG for these games , the moment that the Ashe arrow was shot the whole stadium got so quiet , then it hit the Ekko stopping the teleport . Everyone was so loud that I could feel the seats shaking . I'll never forget it

Even though i was rooting for skt to win against them in semis, i always felt sad thinking about losing that great positive energy.Thank You for giving us the BEST best of five ever played.
I was able to watch the 2016 semifinals the first year of me playing league, I was only playing for about two months and my friends told me to watch Worlds with them. This series changed everything for me and really made me fall in love with the game.
And here I am again, wishing to see them, 5 again together. One of the best and most fun to watch team to ever exist.
If I could choose any moment to change in history and relive, it would be making these two teams face off in the finals instead of semis, and have it be a 3-2 ROX Tigers. There will never be a team like it.
I was so spoiled to have started watching league when ROX Tigers came together. Those guys are still my favorite players and favorite team till this day. I still go back and watch their run just because.

I remember being in MSG for this. absolutely heartbreaking but also the best matches I ever watched.
There were beautiful series in League but this one, SKT vs ROX in Worlds 2016 Semis was just on a completely different league. The two best teams in the world that year, playing against each other in their best forms.
The Ashe/MF Pick stunned everyone, even SKT, they haven't even thought of that possibility, they were completely bewildered that they thought it was an incorrect pick.
Pray's ashe arrow landing on Ekko, it was pure prediction since it is a fog of war in Pray's point of view he was calculating where Duke would use his teleport to defend the base.
Faker's grand escape using Ori: Faker was just so good at dodging skillshots, it's mind blowing. At 14:00 he was top "Top" "I'm gonna live, I'm okay". Then you add Peanuts disaapionted "that was a good escape" shows what kind of skill level you need to do that. They were already the top tier pros, but got out dodged.
Lastly, Bengi's super saiyan mode in Game 4 and 5. He picked Nidalee, a champion he had never played before professionally, destroyed ROX in game 4 to avoid elimination and force a game 5.
The takeaways are what made this series the best in League History. It was only the Semis yet everyone believes it is the Grand Finals.

Not many can say this but this best of 5 was the first league game I ever watched.
I was drivning home from a family gathering and my friend did all he could to come over and watch it.

MF/Ashe was unexpected and almost gave them them the series but no one expected Bengi's Nidalee to be played and reversed uno the situation as well. A truly epic series 👌.

I DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO SEE THE THUMBNAIL TO KNOW THIS WAS ABOUT MY BOYS. This was the only league worlds that i went to a cinemark theatre at 4am to watch. Academy Ahri skin included THIS GAME WAS SO HYPE
God these guys were like the exemplary league team. They were humble, hilarious, charming, hard working, and fuck they were good. Really makes me sad they didn't win, they really deserved it

Meta back in days was so balanced from what now it is it seems...yes this year meta is more fun than last 2 years. i really hope to see some long streatched games coming onto single fight after a cat and mouse chase.
Not really though. The tank nets made the game really a pain to play in 2016.
2017 the ardent censor meta just made it basically. Whoever gets ardent sensor first controls the game until the other gets ardent censor.
That semifinal match of ROX vs SKT then the finals of SSG vs SKT was 2 of the best BO5s ever played in League history. Im actually surprised there isn’t a story about SSG, only team to take SKT to Worlds finals twice and only team to beat SKT in Worlds (at the time)

Koo tigers/Rox was my favourite team. I remember their game and was so fun to watch,and they dominate the teams so hard ,even harder than skt. In the lck regular season ,almost every split they were first . Unfortunattely ,they couldn't beat skt when matter.

I really really liked the ROX Tigers back then and was so disappointed that they couldn't win worlds back then. They felt so different from other teams on the rift and outside of it. I think this is the reason why I love FPX's run last year(2019). They reminded me of ROX Tigers in a way.
I want Peanut win the Worlds SOOOO much this year, this May be our last opportunity to see the last member of Tigers to win the whole damn things...

@@beebopbeebopbeebop580 if you wanna get into lck by forming your own team, you gotta start from rock bottom and qualify for lck promotion tournament. With franchising, none of those will happen ever again.
I agree... imo the problem with franchising is that new talents wont be given that many chances to form a team tgt and prove their worth tgt. League is a team game, and therefore team chemistry plays a huge role in it. Now, we might have new talented players who are close friends but because they are nobodies in the industry, no team will want to field a whole group of rookies in one of the strongest region in League of Legends.
@@CJKpoprox CK will turn into Academy system and surely the KeSPA Cup will still exist. Korea's source of talents has mostly been coming from SoloQ and KeSPA Cup so I think there should be no need for worry. If you perform well on the KeG team, you're likely to get picked up (example: Doran, Ellim, Gumayushi) and if you are a soloq star, you would become a youtube sensation in korean media (Canna, Closer, Keria, Chovy before GRF). If we understand Korean language, you would see that Korean media in LoL is really really big, deep, and would cover unknown soloq stars than pro players.

That was the best bo5 I ever watch. The thrill is literally flying everwhere. It was not how players play now waiting for mistakes to happen and capitalize of it. That bo5 was the punch every action movie wants to have. Im a bit biased for skt but that was an enjoyable game I want to see again.
rox vs skt in worlds semis was the best mathes ive seen in LoL and when they won lck after that 5 game and smeb carry i was so happy
There has never been and will never be a greater series and team than that of SKT in this semi-final. This was peak league of legends and no one has come close to it.

Yes watching SKT rise against all odds especially watching the Eyes on SKT episode really put them on another level. They met all the expectations. But it had to come with one of the most beloved teams going down.

I love Bengi and think he is underrated but he really was a system player. In the role he fit on SKT he did at a great level, but IMO I don't think he would have been at the same level on a different type of team.

I don't know why, but for some reason watching leave me on the verge of tears. Maybe I felt sorry for the ROX (don't get me wrong they gave us the best Bo5 of all time), or maybe I just remember the time I watched this live and the mixed emotion came to me. Hands down, the best Bo5 of all time!

That Faker Orianna and Zilean was peak Faker honestly. I can only remember his Galio the next season that played to again another level.

The Tigers were just one game a away from World title. But little did they know, Bengi - the Jungle himself was waiting with the first-time-ever Nidalee pocket pick and reminded everyone why he was called the unkillable demon king's third summoner spell.
God, Duke's poppy was fucking fantastic, I remember watching SKT since Samsung White won, and watching SKT evolve and cycle through players was an experience in it's own.
I wouldnt say they took the league scene by surprise how this vid is saying , as i remember ppl in the community we're expecting them to perform really well , and we're really hyped to see especially their botlane . But i aggre with all the points after the beginning part tho . Good vid
