This has got to be Walt Disney's best animated film (while he was alive). The choir is breathtaking and the animation is majestic.
Ikr even the choirs were wonderful I wish Walt Disney was still alive he'd be proud of all the movies the animation studios made
WHY DOESN'T THEY JUST MAKE HER DRESS PINK IN THE ENTIRE FLIM
@@jobiden5827 RIGHT?! I mean like honestly Merrywether wanted it blue and Flora wanted it pink idk why they argued for the colors which I laughed when they argued with the colors
@Jo Biden I always preferred the blue dress. I like the tension the dress change creates. I only recently realized how much of the soundtrack is based on the Tchaikovsky ballet, I’ve been obsessed. Interesting that Aurora also has the least spoken lines of any Disney princess.
@@jobiden5827 I like it blue! 😀
This had to be the TRIPPIEST scene when I was a kid. Freaked me out with all the faceless knights
I always thought they were so cool!
@@5Mariner I thought it was weird as kid, but in a good way. Also the large variety of colors was too much for my child brain to handle!
SAME OMG
SAME. IT WAS VERY RARE, AND I WAS QUITE AFRAID
Idk why, but at 0:27 and 0:33 I thought that was a shadow creature with a creepy smile lol
My favorite scene when I was kid watching this, I would often ask my mom to play this movie solely just to watch this part. I was always interested in medieval scenery and was fascinated by all the knights and flags.
Same I loved this part because of the colors lol
SAME!!!
SAME
Same here
Same , i like medieval style
Sleepy Beauty has my favorite artistic style of any Disney animated film. Every scene is like a medieval manuscript illumination come to life.
The harmonies “on that joyful day, on that joyful day” splendid 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I used to love watching this opening when I was young. I didn't understand the words, or what was going on, but people were singing and there was a massive crowd of people dressed up gathering for _something,_ so I knew something huge was going on. And yet, even though I could tell the song was celebrating something, both the song and the people were surprisingly calm and slow. I think it's what I liked about it. And I've always remembered that "Hail Aurora" part, long after I forgot the rest of the melody. I also love how medieval this movie feels. The muted colours and the simple lines; the clothes; the flags with coats of arms; the armoured horses.
I just remembered Tchaikovsky's fantastical music and rhythm to it.
I just remember always sing along to it
Even though I knew none of the words😂
M
I always got chills watching the horses!!!
Those knights are freaking cool.
Most people aren't talking about the animation. I remember watching this as a kid and just not getting it. I wasn't even sure if the horses were real because of the way they moved, like horses from those video games where you are racing them by pressing buttons. Now....I adore the animation, and I understand what they were going for. I remember they wanted this film to be beautiful, and they got to play with new technology to make it stand out. It's a moving tapestry!
More like moving pieces of art work and inspiration
Moving tapestry is my favourite phrase now
I can see why people don't like Aurora, but I love her. I mean seriously, she is the only Disney princess to have her own freaking theme song.
Cinderella also had her own song in the opening credits.
she has such little screen time and lines. it's easy to like her but I don't adore her either
I like her better than brats like Ariel
lvndr twn suck beeing you if you dont like Ariel
I don't see why either. I don't hate a single disney princess lol
I love how there is an entire song about her name being Aurora, but nobody remembers her name except as Sleeping Beauty
My mom used to sing this to me when I was little, but she would substitute Aurora with Amanda. Reminds me of her, so thanks for uploading.
awww, that's cute! Lucky you ;)
Your mom is awesome.
ServicePoodleInTraining mine too since my name is Amanda. Wonderful memory
Aww that's so sweet❤️
I will do the same when I have daughters :3
This was my favorite part of the movie the choir is so amazing at singing the song. They should sing a song like this for every Disney Princess who was born into royalty
Strongly agree with you 😊
Had the "Hail Aurora, Haaaaiiiiiiiillllllllk Aurora" part stuck in my head all day haha
One of my favourite scenes in Disney.
Andriy Ivanovich right!?
Ikr it's epic 👍
I like this version of sleeping beauty better than the live-action one and she's one of my favorite's Disney princesses
This is so much cooler than the live. If Walt was alive he would call it trash because it's not very good.
@@timothycarlstead3664 fr though they not even coming up with original movies anymore they just keep live actioning everything
@@starwars6718 Exactly! None of the new stuff is good. Like Aladdin they've censored a few words in the Prince Ali song and Will Smith sucked at singing
Forreal like- cartoon hits different nostalgia wise
Don’t we all. Better than Keys to the Kingdom and the Maleficent films
I think that Aurora would be a great queen because she is able to understand and empathize with peasants.
You know, I think King Stefan is the only Disney king that acctualy have a army, (dire implications).
Forgot the Emperor in Mulan?
The King in Tangled.
Aurora is easily the best princess (although I love most of them!)
Do you remember if you have met Aurora yet?
Very colourful, charming, inspiring.
💙🤍❤️👑⚜️⭐🌟
It's amazing how much they used Tchaikowsky's music from the Ballet for this movie! I love classical music, so I have the whole thing in my library, and every now and then I think "Hey, that was used in the Disney movie!" For example, the melody from this song is inspired by No. 2 Marche
100% agree. Almost everything. With Once Upon A Dream finding a little twist here and there, but that's fine.
I call my daughter aurora and play this song to her all the time
Chantelle Hague She is going to have one big ego when she grows up 😂😂😂
That is very kind for your Aurora.
That’s what I was thinking. It’s a nice thought but if you tell a girl she’s a princess, she will grow up believing it.
Authentic poetic and over one of the best Disney movies
perfect song to celebrate Kate and William's new daughter.
That's 100 percent true XP
The character designs and background of this film reminds me of these card king, queen and joker design.
Fun fact: this film's music is actually taken from the score of the Sleeping Beauty ballet by Tchaikovsky. Some liberties are taken, but the melodies are still there
What beautiful art style!
This is my favorite song from Sleeping Beauty.
I just named my new horse Aurora. So I searched out this amazing song from my childhood. Thanks Disney for animating this amazing Tchaikovsky music.
Amen! Tchaikovsky is on another level.
I've listened to this song on repeat for about an hour now...
The Animation is visually beautiful the bright colors are great
Love the animation on the horses
:) :)
Amazing for 1959
Back when Disney cared about good movies
Aurora is one of my favorite Disney princess off all time since Ariel
Do you remember if you have met Aurora at either a Disney Park or a Princess Party?
Disney's princess aurora is one of my all time favorite Disney princess like Ariel,Merida,Jasmine and Tiana. I love sleeping beauty!
This was my favourite scene in whole movie
Happy 65th anniversary, Sleeping Beauty!
This song should have been in "Maleficent".
paradisecityX0 I would have loved for it to just be in the background - and then after Maleficent kisses Aurora's head, she whispers, "long live the princess Aurora." ;-;
It’s been years since I’ve watched this
I was watching it on VHS in December, and until that time it was 14 years since I watched the whole thing in one sitting! I used to have meltdowns when I was a kid, and my parents told me I wasn't allowed to loop this movie like I wanted. I always wanted to do that with this, "Aladdin", and "Robin Hood". I have once looped consecutively "Bambi", "Pinocchio", "Lady and the Tramp", and "The Jungle Book".
Today's Mary Costa's 90th bday sooooo I'm celebrating it with this song just bc why not
(It was on April 5th)
Update: She’s 91!
@@matthewhedrichjr.5445 I know- and I almost forgotten this comment.
This intro is amazing. I love the story book.
Narrator: And our Story begins and that most Joyful Day.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH THE MOVIE AND SONG !,
This always reminds me that I was gonna be named Aurora when I was born Aurora’s still my favorite Disney princess
Playing this for my little princess when she’s coming out of the hospital right now…
Also further more, you should get rid of all of the Spinning Wheels in her Kingdom.
I'm studying English and I really struggled to get the subtitle of this song haha now I got it! Thank you!
*Nostalgia for me.*
I can't help but sing along lol :D
Amani Webb same!
Sameeeeeeeeeeee
Sleeping Beauty: Hail to the Princess AUROOOOORAAAAAAA!
Princess Mononoke: Hold my fucking beer
"Long love the Princess Aurora"
Well, destiny states that she'll die at 16, so...
Aurora is my 3rd list favorite disney princess while Belle is my 2nd fav and Ariel is my #1 favorite
Those 3 are my favs too XD
Here are my 5 favorites
1. Jasmine
2. Aurora
3. Mulan
4. Ariel
5. Cinderella.
@@StephenLukeAlso further more, if you go to a Disney Park, you should try to meet those 5 Princesses if it’s possible.
I remember how cool the knights were in this song. I honestly thought they were super-men when I was a kid.
Sometimes the knights and horses are red and others are blue, like her dress. The one at 00:33 is both colors
Good find!
I just got a dog named Aurora and I sing this song to her 🥰
Slay gurl
I love Aurora
When you really think about it King Stefan and his wife may have loved their daughter but they didn't want a child simply because they wanted to be parents. It was because they needed someone to take their place once they either step down or pass away. In other words there was pressure on them to have a child who will one day rule the kingdom. That is why Phil was engaged to Aurora. So when they are old enough they can marry and get busy making a child for the next generation. Then their kid will be engaged to another Prince or Princess. Likewise the same thing would had happened to Stefan and his wife as they got betrothed as children.
That’s basically the way monarchies worked in real life.
Hail Au-ro-ra! Hail Au-ro-ra!
Princess Aurora has her own freaking theme song. Beat that Anna and Elsa.
Allison Barrett ikr 😂
Ok but why bring Anna and Elsa into this? What this the point? Y'know, none of the other princesses had theme songs either (except for Cinderella and Belle)
Anna has “For the First Time in Forever”
Elsa has “Let It Go”
They might as well be their themes
I think most princesses have their own themes.
I honestly never cared much for Sleeping Beauty, but I love this song.
# Aurora! #
Fun Fact: Almost everyone who watched this video this was their or our favorite scene
The original aspect ratio shows so much more then this cropped version
Exactly. It’s the widescreen format of (2.55:1) which was used only used in various 1950’s movies like Rebel Without a Cause, and Lady and the Tramp.
ON THAT JOYFUL DAYYY
This came in my head randomly.
I like to imagine a version of this song written for every Disney Princess.
Here's what the lyrics would be:
Joyfully to our princesses we come,
Bringing gifts and all good wishes too,
We pledge our loyalty anew.
Hail to the Disney Princesses!
All of their subjects adore them!
Hail to their kings!
Hail to their queens!
Hail to the Disney Princesses!
We sing to you all,
We cheer for you all,
Long live the Disney Princesses!
Hail our beauties!
Hail our beauties!
We sing to you all,
We cheer for you all,
Long live the Disney Princesses!
Hail to their kings!
Hail to their queens!
HAIL TO THE DISNEY PRINCESSES!!!
Am I the only one who played this when Will and Kate's daughter was born?
god i hope so
And to think this movie failed at the box office so bad that Disney almost went bankrupt…
If I remember, since this Movie a lot of little Girls still wear Aurora Dresses.
Hot take: this is the best song in the film
i always remember the colours more... colourfull and the singing and music to be epic. not that his is bad-
While this by fair not my favorite (Hunchback has this movie beaten by a mile) I will say this is defiently the most artistic looking of disney movies. Just looking at some of the scenes in this opening, it doesn't even look like an animated movie, but almost like a tapestry come to life.
OMG guyyyyssss I can't believe she did that!!!!!
The choir sounds a lot like modern serbian, montenegrin, hungarian nationalist songs.
This is not western europe, stéfan is not a western european name. Even though it is a fairy tale, the story seems to have a slightly central/eastern european approach, in terms of names, geography, culture (jesters do have an origin from western europe) rather in other disney movies.
I believe the setting could be a place like Bosnia
Have you noticed that it is almost the same scene, or rather the same event as the beginning of The Lion King
While Aurora could have been more interesting, thsi still stands out for having the best musical score. It doesn’t need a crappy Keys to the Kingdom segment or the Maleficent films. It should have had a proper sequel based off of Maleficent’s Revenge but combine elements from the lame Keys to the Kingdom segment.
Hail to the tigers of Clemson
Hail to the princess 😻😂😊😊 Aurora
Zadok the Priest.
This could've happened in Game of thrones
Um. It's released on January 22, 1959 before the inaugural Daytona 500 in February 22, 1959 won by lee petty

It took place in France, NOT England due to the banners and the artwork was based off of the French manuscripts
Are you really sure?!!
@@robnewman6101yes
Was this France or England
🇫🇷.
The 14th Century.
You’re welcome. 👍🏻
That kinda looks like England to me
Is this France or England
That is the 1300s
Stephen Luke yep because of Eyvind Earle’s artwork inspiration from the French gothic manuscript and other French tapestries
My name is Aurora haha
since ur name is aurora do u hate 2 be called disney princess aurora?
I am in the play
You forgot to invite Maleficent.
*Maleficent has entered the chat*
Concubine. One for the kipper
I'd say this film takes place in Britain.
Nope! It never said that in the film! The art was heavily influenced by France during the Gothic Period and the Middle Ages, thanks to Eyvind Earle. It didn’t take place in London either! It’s probably set in France due to the Royal National anthem of France at the end! Please stop with the myth! The clothing and style isn’t generally English, it’s Western European. A mistake that a lot of people thought this style was all English when it’s possibly France or Germany.
Matthew Hedrich Jr. There were two Kings meeting each other.
@@lexusdriver1963 well yes but I’m correcting you a misconception about this film and the country setting.
@@matthewhedrichjr.5445 The story takes place in France which explains Fleur De Lys symbol on their coat of arms?
@@lexusdriver1963 yes but the art background and designs were heavily influenced by the French Gothic manuscript done by the Limbourg Brothers. Not only the castle is based on the Bavaria castle in Germany but also several castles in France such as the Chateau De Usse. The architecture seems to be French and German. Another reason is that several french words can be heard in this film succh as “Troubadour” and “En Guarde”. Perhaps the most important evidence is that Tchiakovsky’s adaption of “Vive Henry IV”, the former royal anthem of France, can be heard in the end of the film.
While, as a character, Aurora is boring, the scene with her at the castle in the end, with the creepy freakin music and the spindle--that all was really cool.
I love Aurora
Agree a little bit on Aurora. It be fair for her to have more screen time if the scene with her father and Kong Hubert gets set in the beginning as it would allow her to invite Phillip immediately.
@@blueboy2976she’s be more smart. I’m blaming her parents for causing the conflict by angering Maleficent. It was their fault and that’s why Aurora became unintelligent.
@@matthewhedrichjr.5445 stop it. I don't blame anyone. And Aurora wasnt unintelligent
@@blueboy2976nope. Stefan and Leah were the ones that caused the conflict by not inviting Maleficent to the christening. The fairies were reckless as they blatantly made two mistakes that harmed King Stefan’s kingdom and put Aurora’s life at risk

So fucked up
Princess aurora not having pink dress she has blue dress that ebony don’t like it
This animation style is half beautiful and half horrific, the backgrounds are terrific but the character animation is atrociously bad
