To be fair to City..they was a newly promoted team and struggling for form.. United had just won the FA cup and was on a 10 match winning streak.. United had the money whilst City didn't.. the segregation was policed badly that day.. but it went tits up for United later in the season whilst City got it together and got revenge at Old Trafford by earning a 2-2 draw after United leading 2-0.. then a Wembley appearance the next day.. Big Ron Akinson didn't last too long after this season...so this Derby doesn't show the full picture of that period...
@@garycross5753 thats right, cos half the north stand didnt jump up at 2 nil did it? Your right that loads of reds left the north stand, but ran out of there? loads of reds were in there till fulltime. Be honest.

I started off in the blue side of the kippax that day, before scores of reds stormed thru a gate to get into our section, which was well overcrowded. To be fair, both sets of fans were up for it, but it was impossible to keep the red hordes out.
maine road 75% red, what a ridiculous statement...ha ha....and whats with the obsession with stockport?!... stockport is a borough of gt.manchester, just as trafford and salford are
@Lá Salette there was pal. I was in the United end of Kippax if I remember correctly. But as you said, Reds were everywhere. I watched United from all 4 stands of Maine Road back in the day.
@Lá Salette there was always mither at the other end of the Kippax - the North Stand end. I remember literally hundreds of United fans getting put in our end after it had kicked off in there one particular game. That's on CZcams somewhere. It was tasty one year at the bottom the NS as well one year. Reds were dotted about - me and our kid included, but a load had congregated in one corner, and it kicked off when we scored our 2nd in a 3-3. Seen skirmishes in Platt Lane over the years but not as much as in the Kippax. The walk back to town could be lively 😎
@Lá Salette 85-86, yeah we should have. We were 10 points clear of the Scousers after we drew with them at OT. I was at Hillsborough when we lost our first game, along with 15k other Reds. We finished 4th in the end!
i'll tell you why northmancred.....because you can't see the maine stand where there is 15000 blues for a start, yes it looks alot of reds because you are scoring and you are jumping up and down in between blues who are not moving, this gives the IMPRESSION of alot and still the majority of the kippax is blues....so thats the 2 LARGEST areas of the ground with blues with a seeming lot of reds in the small ends....i will give you that there was 35% but 75% ....never
i was there that day and what you don't see in the video is 2000 reds coming out of the kippax ,citys end after we scored the first goal .UNITED AGGRO !
@@tigerarmyrule Well City are where they are now, obviously. The COMS has probably been United's most successful away ground over the last few years though (for what it's worth....)
Notice how players leave the ref to make the penalty decision without hassling and surrounding him like crazy ,,.. Why do the City fans boo Peter Barnes, who was such a magnificent player for them ??
It seems odd that this happened and nobody bats an eyelid and nowadays City are money doping football? United spend as much as City just not as wisely and somehow thats unfair?

Rags claiming 75% of Maine Road for this game. Delusional 🛎🔚s. I was there in the Kippax. The cameras show only the lower sections of the north stand which was probably 50/50, the upper sections would have been season ticket holders. I’d say probably 15k rags at the most. The most away fans I’ve ever seen at Maine Road were Sunderland on the last day of the 1990-91 season, and I’ve been going since 1973. There’s never been any team better supported in numbers than Sunderland , and that includes the blinkered rags. It’s worth noting that this result was part of the rags “sensational” start to the season that resulted in 10 wins from the first 10 games. Following on from this run, they are the only club to finish the season 4th in a 1 horse race. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. 10 long years raggies.

probably our most comfortable victory at Maine Road. I was there that day and we were outstanding, as was our support.

Saw something like that at Derby County in 89, away end was a sell out and they let a few United fans out of the home end then they just kept coming

McIlroy playing for City, Barnes playing for United... crazy stuff. Some things don't change though, like United going to City and bending them over.

Highly unfair to call Maine Road a hovel. What have bona fide hovels done to deserve such a heinous insult as to be compared to the Mosside Mausoleum?
