@sweeney 1 Because. if anyone makes a challenge to them. as United did a decade or so, Celtic(and at that time Rangers too) would buy any promising talent that would help us challenge on the run in of a season. They did this repeatedly mid season to intentionally destroy the chances of any team that challenged them. It basically became a bought and paid for league for decades.

From a Celtic fan who grew up with DUFC, A/Deen and us fighting for the league, Hearts later. It's still in my head that going to Tannadice will be a hard game. That was a great team. McLean was a superb manager. I always thought the Dundee Utd side of the early to mid eighties were a better footballing side than Aberdeen. No disrespect Aberdeen. Both were great teams. And I've been chased by the Utility and the ASC. It'd be great to see you both up there again. But don't kick my head in please.

He was chuffed that there was at least one genuine United fan there that night and I remember Dundee gave us a helluva game/scare over the two legs. All credit to both teams. this was the man utd team which got me interested in football. check out that move between robson, stapleton, strachan and finished by hughes. atkinson had a excellent team to watch, they maybe lacked a little in height & he should have spent more on his defence instead of all those strikers. and robson should have worn some sort of shoulder strap. then sparky was sold and big ron got the heave, alex f came in and had to rip out virtually the entire team except robbo and brought back hughes. then as soon as cantona came in, that was the icing on the cake, i knew they'd win the league after that.
