Fun comparison but the XK8 wasn't really designed for performance. Think big engined GT car with the ability to waft everywhere and make a nice sound. It didn't win any tests when it was new but again, it wasn't designed too. Plus the aluminum block and heads. Plus the fact that it came with 1.7:1 rocker arms stock. Plus the fact that the stock cam had nearly half and inch lift on both intake and exhaust. I know you were probably talking about making big power, but these little details about the stock motors made them incredibly strong and competitive at the time. I would like to have seen a race between the Bolt and the Corvette. That might have been a close race. Then, race them again at sea level. NA engines LOVE operating at sea level! While barometric pressure makes a HUGE difference to normally aspirated engines, it makes NO difference to electric. The other thing is, that sea level creates more aerodynamic drag than high elevation, which tips the scales more against the electric. At sea level, the Jaguar might even give the Bolt a contest.

Spoiler alert. The Jaguar is about 400 pounds heavier than the fiberglass Vette. I have a 2000 XKR Supercharged convertible. Even that isn't faster than the Vette. However, it's presence and interior quality is much better than the Vette. I've had my XKR for 9 years and it is surprisingly reliable. The only issues occur when you have a weak battery (solved by installing a new battery) and the coolant hoses (and there are many) that fail after 20+ years. I bet the newer XK8/XKR with the Brembo brakes would stop faster than the Vette. Those Brembos are awesome in my S-Type R!

leak free? this myth was always so silly to me, their hoses and seals are made out of the same materials any american or japanese car is made from, cars leak when they aren’t used regularly, what other issues did you have? they are generally good cars apart from timing chain tensioners and A drum. mine had a coolant leak in 2 hose areas on 25yo hoses after daily driving problem free for more than a year, and a valve cover gasket leak, that is not a “jaguar thing”, it is an old car thing.

@@h7pubg As someone who works on these for a living,I can tell you that it is not an industry issue or myth at all,it is a poor quality issue, uneven mating surfaces, poor quality materials for seals and gaskets etc. I have replaced multiple Jaguar engines over the years, every single one of them was oil soaked with one type of oil or another. And the issue isn't a hose or a seal leaking as much as it is what the hose attaches to,for instance I recently replaced the engine on a 2016 land rover,3.0 supercharged, there is a coolant bypass tube under the intake manifold,it is a poorly designed application that gets brittle and cracks, leading to leaking, leading to overheating, leading to a 14k dollar repair order for a new long block and install. I now have a 94 v12 Mercedes convertible and it isn't much better as far as the leaking and seeping fluids, and the car is used fairly regularly, but I also have a v8 Mercedes convertible and it is completely dry underneath. Bottom line is quality of materials, quality of engineering, and quality of installation on the production line.

At least where I work the "myth" of the quality and reliability has actually become legend. I have been in the automotive field for 40 years now, every day of it has been working on foreign cars, its what I do for a living, and I would rate Jaguars among the worst overall, sure they may have had a few good years/models,but if they did I have not seen them, but then again I work on these things,so if there are good ones out there makes sense I wouldn't see them. I would be curious to see what the good years and models are though,I'm simply stating my experiences as one who has made a pretty good living wrenching on all makes and models with my specific arena being foreign cars. And all makes have their share of problems, even the best ranked models, but Jaguar seems to be very good at making some pretty attractive cars, just not reliable. The one that took residence in my garage was a 98 burgandy xk convertible,I really liked the styling, but it was a horribly built car,and truth be told my sl600 is probably as bad in its reliability, and I have stated many times if I couldn't wrench on it myself I wouldnt own it,but i keep it going simply because when its working proper there is nothing I like better. I've been Jaguar and Corvette lover before I could legally drive. The first car I drove over 100mph was a XJ6 and I was hooked on Jags.
Whist I loved this vid... and its VERY COOL that a Dad and son are having fun racing cars... its not a fair comparison. IMO at the time the buyers of each would not have been comparison shopping the two. Nor are the cars engineered to be competitors. Old man w/golf clubs is about the only thing they actually compete in.
    1. I currently own both a C5 Z06 and a 4.2L Jaguar S-Type. Both are in pristine condition, have low miles, and both have 300+hp V8's
    2. The Vette is more comfortable to drive than you might think. And of coarse its FAST w/430-ish HP and 3100lbs.
    3. The Jag is deceptively excellent at high speeds. It has 303HP and the ZF 6 speed has a 1st gear that'll get its 3600lbs off the line quicker than you might think. Once rolling 70+mph.. its sneaky fast.
I've driven both on 2000+ mile road trips and to be honest there is no clear winner for such a trip. When I want to blast around locally.. I take the vette. When I want to go on longer freeway trips I take the Jag. Curvy mountain roads... eh... its a toss up. IF I were to drive at 100+mph for sustained periods of time.. the Jag would be the obvious choice as its high speed manners are just right.
