I got my dad's old power king two years ago after he passed away. It's all torn apart he started restoring it about 20 years ago and didn't get it back together so I have a really complicated jigsaw puzzle because I am not sure if it's all there or not. But I will fully restore it and be proud to show it off!!
Taryl your old drill press, you said you can't adjust the speed right. Problem... flip either the pulley on the motor or the quill. one of the pulleys should have the larger up. Thanks Taryl. There's your dinner.
Haha was just going to say the same thing..one of the pulleys is upside down
I was going to comment the same thing about the pulleys being wrong on the drill press but yall beat me to it. lol
Yes. One pulley up, the other down. Keep up the AWESOME work
That's what I thought too think your right...
Hope he reads this
16 14 stands for 16" tires and 14 h.p. Got one just like it but with the tandem trans . Still use it ! My father was a Power King dealer back in the day , might still have some parts for them
Thanks Taryl.
I got My Moms Fathers 1970 Bolens 1256-02 running after sitting some 30 years.
1st Tractor I got to drive as a 10 year old. (have photo) I drove it around our Tractor Show this last Aug.
Ebay to the Rescue for an almost pristine OE Seat and some Steering Wheels with no cracks, amongst some other parts missing off the Tractor that Grand dad took off to make an Orchard Tractor for tending 10 Acres of Tomatoes before He passed away.
I have a full Factory decal kit to put on after it is repainted.

Once again, a success story! The King has found his "throne"!! Enjoyed watching, keep up the good work.
Very kind of Doolie and family for the Tractor and their efforts. Great job on the resurrection Taryl!
When I worked at a shop in the 70s and 80s, we had a few pieces of equipment that were always fun to work on and get to test out. Among them were the Power King tractors, a Swisher three-wheel riding mower, original Snappin' turtle mowers, and Homelite Super Wiz 66 saws. I miss those days, where my love for all things mechanical was being formed.
Absolutely love what you guys do over there in Podunk. Keep up the great work Taryl. 🇬🇧👍🔧
Many years ago I had an Ariens mower with 48" deck and one of those 14 HP Kohler motors. I used it on my dads 2 acre parcel for years and then my nephew took it to Maryland and used it for probably another 10 years. Those were GREAT Kohler engines.
oh yes'
@@WJCTechyman Kohler engines are a much better choice to have than a Onan engine. Onan engines are good, however extremely expensive to maintain and their replacement parts are extremly way over priced and very rare to obtain to.
Absolutely the best video ever. Nathan and I are so happy
1. I LOVE that tractor!!!!!! You also did an AMAZING job getting that thing back up and running Taryl! I LOVE how you put on that converted fuel pump and how you worked on the carb! Also very good eye noticing that plastic bushing for the steering colum LOL wow!!! Great work!!!
2. Very cool and generous of Nathan Duley and Jacob! What a GREAT donation!! This video was EXCELLENT!!! Thanks for that you guys - watching this video was a real treat! Cannot wait to see the continued ones for it!
I always learn something new with every Taryl Fixes All video. Thank you Taryl!
Love these tractors!!
My dad had one in the 70's with a hydraulic front end loader.
Whish I had it today 😞.
Awesome video Taryl and crew!
I wondered about that carbetreter sitting all that time. I usually at least pull the needles and shoot some carb spray through the jets. And clean the emulsifier holes.
Just picked up a K16 in the legendary C 160 Wheel Horse 🐎 and it acted like your engine after sitting five yesrs
If you flip the motor pulley upside down on your old drill press, you will have a much better speed selection. Cone pulleys should be opposite ( one up and one down). Hope that helps.
That was great as always y'all! My neighbor died awhile back and he had one of these that he had bought new in the late '70's in High Point,N.C. It came with the belly mower and had the 18hp ohv Kohler....K361.I worked on it a few times for him. Those were great engines. I think this was the beginning for the OHV for Kohler. Y'all really came out to the good on that one! From Sophia,N.C.
"This is a French wrench. It's called a croissant wrench."
Lol
You crack me up Taryl. Keep up the great work.
The technical term for it is, an adjustable metric wrench. I have two in my tool box, one SAE, and one metric, because in Canada, we are bilingual, eh?
@@jjock3239 If you weld both those handle to handle together, you'll have a double ended nut lathe (clean version)
@@bitteroldskunk Great idea!
Also known as the adjustable hammer!
Many also call it a Wescott wrench. Now, if you want to go the whole nine yards, the French generic name for this tool is "clé à molette" (clay-ha-mow-let) which tranlates to knurl wrench. Now there's your dinner !
That thing is really neat!I remember seeing those around when I was a kid.I was alway"s into old wheelhorses so it was funny when you said that towards the end. That thing is built like a real tractor, individual rear brakes, live hydraulics & all.Learn so much from these vids that can be applied to anything that I"m working on.👍!
It is like a small utility tractor, kinda like a utility tractor to a much smaller extent, however they are tough tractors that can very much do a lot of great work and get the job done. I own two of these and love both of them very, very much. They are 1614's which means the rear tires are 16 inch tires, the engines are a 14 horsepower Kohler engine.
Awesome tractor! My father bought a similar model and I used it to cut our grass growing up. He still has it, plus he got another one from a family member several years ago.
Have a few of these in storage that were my dads. My favorite is the ol 60's Jim Dandy or the Power Queen. Mowed with them my whole childhood, I'm 30 now and they're all still running like tops.
They are extremly excellent tractors, very well built, very dependable. Of course like everything else out there, matain them properly and they will DEFINATELY last you a long, long time. I know because I own two of these Power King tractors, love both of them very, very much to.
Love your videos and your knowledge just blows me away. You are a true historian of lawn equipment and small engines!!! Amazing!!!!
That was very nice of that guy to donate this tractor!! Good on him and you Teryl!!!
I meant Taryl!! Darn autocorrect!!
Love to see much MORE OF what you plan to do to this Power King tractor. It's a beautiful tractor, very well built machine and will last a lifetime if taken good care of. Let's see much more of this Power King tractor, PLEASE!
Reminded me of all the 40+ year old turds I had roll through my shop. I rarely got as lucky though. Enjoyed your video Taryl.
I LOVE it! I've wanted one of those since the 70's. It was my dream tractor back then. Congrats on getting one in such good condition. I'll be interested in seeing all your updates and improvements! I got to get one of those work shirts!
I have wanted one to, for a long time
The King's court and jesters. I'm glad you guys have so much fun
We had an economy tractor back in the 60’s. It had 9 hp and was a beast. The video brought back fond memories of my dad and all the good times we had. Thanks.
Dad & I just picked one up from the scrapyard a couple weeks ago. Its a 74' also. I cleaned the points on the 321 engine & it fired right up. She's not as nice as this one you have judging by the thumbnail pic but we're gonna truly enjoy watching this vid Taryl!!
Restore it! It's strange that you found one of these in a junkyard though. Power King tractors have since gone out of business, however they are still running strong to this very day, and there is a warehouse parts dealership you can still get parts for these tractors with almost anything you may need to get for them.
Ha!! Sunday afternoon spending some time with the talented Dactyl family. Life is good!!
I restored a 73 Sears suburban st16- kinda regretting I didn’t video record all the things I did - not sure if I could have made any money from u tube, at least I could have helped others. Taryl helped me along with Matt from diesal creek, c+c equipment, others - learned a lot-really enjoyed it
What a nice and lucky find this was. Well done and I’d say add a new fresh coat of paint! I hope to see more and take care!
Very impressive King Taryl. You have great skill with small engines. Fantastic job on this project. I'm looking forward to your next project. Keep up the good work.
Daryl, you have to turn the pulley on your craftman drill press in opposite directions . One with big end facing up on the motor, and the other pulley, with the big pulley on the bottom. That way you get your different speeds. Hope this helps😅. The Jode
Your seat spring is backwards. It might be more comfortable to ride if you turn it around. Them tractors are incredible and they can do a huge amount of work for there size. I have 3 of them. I love them all.
Awesome tractor, and a testament to OLD American made equipment !
Amazing that it is in such good shape.
I am sad that you retired your old Sears drill press, as I own the exact one....
Mine is relegated to a wire wheel and/or sanding drum duty.
As always , thanks for a great video and making me laugh a bit on Sunday !!!
You are the best, Taryl.....!!!
Hey Taryl: The shives on the Craftsman drill press are incorrectly placed. One of the pulleys needs to be flipped upside down from how it is now. If the top pulley on the motor is the smallest on top and the belt goes to the largest at the top on the drill arbor the drill speed will be the slowest.
That is correct the pulley on the motor is upside down
@@davidhawken1301 I think taryl trolled us on this one!
You are correct!
I am just starting out as a retirement business (I'm a retired Master Locksmith). It's very clear to me that you really know what you're doing and you keep it interesting with your added humor!
Who is this mowermedic fellow uou speak
Of? Lol thanks for the shout out buddy!
Taryl, You had doubts at first. But you lucked out good on the power king.
You got a free dinner... 😆
such a cool tractor, the power kings are the king of garden tractors. man you guys got a really good one, its got hydraulics and a 3 point hitch. oroange tractors rule!!!
My dad bought one in 1974 with all the garden tools. This was the toughest garden tractor made. We ran it 30 years.
To make the old Craftsman drill press work properly Flip one of the pulleys over. You want one with the large diameter pullet on top and the other with the small on top.
I think he was checking our oil ... I'd about bet the B&D has a similar step pulley arrangement
Agreed. One of those pullies has to be flipped.
@@charlesangell_bulmtl Speaking of oil. I don't remembering Taryl changing or even checking the oil, will have to replay video.
Hard luck Taryl just wasted $22 LOL ,mount the two drill presses beside each other set for different speeds will be really handy .Great videos and fun too ,I watch them all from Ireland
@@ronzek3207 , 8i788j
Taryl is the coolest and your fans are awesome long live the Power King!!!
I love watching your vids, Taryl and crew! Thanks for sharing!
I either need a bigger garage or a bigger yard, an older tractor like that one would be awesome to fiddle with. 😊
I think the motor pulley on that Crapsman drill press is upside down. That would make it difficult to adjust the speed indeed.
it will make the drive belt fit better as well.
@@atschirner Well, basically, the way it's setup, it's always a 1 to 1 ratio unless you go diagonal, as it is by one slot, which is a huge no-no.
@@benjurqunov DOH! He got me good!
Quick tip on rusty gas tanks. My mechanic dad put sand gravel and pebbles in tanks and shake the devil out of them. Then he would vacuum it out. Now if you had a paint can shaker.......
That water sitting in the seat was driving Me Crazy Taryl until You revealed that new one!
47:04 The reason you could never set the speed right on your old drill press is that the motor pulley is installed upside down.
You are correct !! My old Craftsman is just the same as Taryl's except my motor pulley has the larger pulley up and the spindle pulley is opposite. Great catch man !!!!
Amazing..i wonder how long that drill press has been that way
HAHAHAHAAHAAHAHAHA....
Yes, that's the problem.
Oh dang, he's right! 😂
The school I worked at from '93 until 2005 had a 1974 Power King. I used it to plow snow and cut grass. It did need tire chains to plow but worked great!
Yes Taryl! I love how you are highlighting all the cool items sent to you by fans while tearing this tractor apart with no respect!
I bet there are rebuild parts for the fuel pump, and Taryl is so big on replacement parts, that I am surprised he tossed the old pump in the bin without even inspecting it. This is turning into a goofball show instead of a good how-to..but wasn't it always goofball.
@@Hjerte_Verke Agreed. That fuel pump wouldn't go in the trash here ... also if he took a little time with a properly sharpened thin putty knife he could save gaskets ...
Love the videos Taryl, these have to be the best videos on CZcams, u guyes always make my week
I really like the older machines you bring back to life. I learn a lot of information about Kohler's and general mechanics. Personally I like the green and yellow ones but a lot of info is right up my alley. Thank you man
What a cool old tractor!!!
Great episode! Those machines were very expensive when new and great for large garden work. Remember them well. Great trick for fuel pump.
Dang that has 3 pt hitch .....I saw one of those for the first time a cuple years ago at an animal farm/petting zoo in Missouri
very nice tractor always wanted one can't wait to see all the updates you did to it
Really enjoyed this video...Thanks guys!
Awesome, Taryl !!! Dang, now I want a Powerking!! And hey, got myself one of them newfangled METRIC crescent wrenches. Fits anything metric, but don't work too good on SAE or American bolts and nuts. Isn't Podunk pretty close to Chicago??? And Chicago Mayor Beetlejuice??
gfew up with that same model craftsman.. it was my grandfather's originally.. and then dad had it.. lots of nostalgia.. good old machine!!
Very cool video!! If I had it, I'd make it look almost new. My 2003 cub cadet turn out to be like brand new looking. 😎👍
I also own a International Harvester Cub Cadet tractor, a 982 with a 50 inch mower deck, and it cuts grass really great to. Built like a tank!
Cool old tractor. It sounded pretty good for it's age after adjustments.
I am looking forward to meeting you guys in Valparaiso in. On Saturday! I love the videos!!!!
Awesome video Taryl! Enjoy all of them, keep up the great work. Where's little Johnny, he must have done something that needs to be fixed
Oh Taryl the man with the Coalgate smile, I was hoping and praying you weren't gonna sandblast the carbertrator bowl and ruin it. Thanks
Always impressed at Taryl's memories of the stuff that he has in stock in the attic. I looked in the fridge the other day and was surprised that I had Mustard.
what a great piece to get going again; well worth the effort.
I love it please continue to keep it up and show us the proper way to do things
Those Kohler engines were and still are king among mower engines. I love older Briggs but Kohlers of this era are unbeatable
@maggs: agree regarding Kohlers. The only problem I have is getting the carbs set correctly. My PK doesn’t want to idle smoothly. I have the same type that Tyler uses. I have a couple of Gravelys, with Kohlers, and have the same issue with them.
Taryl, you the man that was a cool project I always like seeing if I can get it to run first before I spend time on the fluffing and buffing. Taryl your the king and you earned your dinner today, can't wait for the next project you have instore for us minions.
Wow! I haven't seen a power king in years.... loved the way the youngest boy slaps his head as he walks off camera. 🤦♂️
All bow to the king.
😅😅 the gig was up....love it. That made my day.
These Power King tractors are very well built tractors, very reliable to. I have two of them and love both of them very, very much.
This will be sweet after you restore it? Your living the life.
Thats a really nice complete tractor. What a find!
I see King Taryl has one of his Warriors sitting on the trailer , he will know how to restore that thing .
that's a great guy to give gift like that .
Looks like that motor pulley is upside down on the craftsman drill press. The speeds are all direct drive speed!
Thank you for your class. Knowledge is a treasure thank you for sharing.
Not shure how I found this channel. But I am loving your videos. Thanks my new friend
Love this guy!!! He is a riot!!!!
What a great little tractor! Reminds me of a half size Farmall Cub they made in the late 40's early 50's. But those had no hydraulics. That would make a super little acreage tractor!!
Oh man that idle is just lovely - could listen to that all day. Cheers from viking land.
Your old drill press has the motor pulley on upside down that's why the speed doesn't change when you move the belt.theres your diner..
You guys are good people 🤟😁🤟The look on the Young mans face said it all.
👑 King Taryl Long Live the King.
thanks Nate!
I’ve never been a big fan of those clamp on battery terminals. Auto Zone and the rest stock replacement battery cables in standard lengths with both ends molded on. It’s a better way to go because then you know that the clamps will never work loose from the cables.
You forgot to check for dinosaur syrup before you fired it up! fired it up! fired it up!!! come on Taryl you know better than that. A wire wheel on a die grinder takes gaskets off easily and if you sharpen that flat gasket scraper it will work as well as the scraper you sell in your online store
I got mine a week ago from a scrap yard everything working now even hydralics with new hoses.1614 16 rear rim size 14 the HP..
Thank you for the shoutout to Louisiana! And there’s your dinner, cher!
That bushings identified replacement thing was very kewl
I hope to see u all at the tractor show
Like all your videos , always informative and entertaining too. This one really good as i have experiened this very issue with the stock vacuum pump. If you can even find one way over priced, so now i know how to fix this issue. Thanks, Appreciate it.
I have that same Westinghouse floor fan that Taryl does, rebuilt it awhile back. Its not perfect but I love it.
Good show Taryl and company.
Very nice resurrection!!
I didn't know anything about modified vacuum pumps that was amazing thanks small engine stuff so hard to find sometimes
Slippers flip the pulley on the motor upside down so you can change the speeds on the old drill press their's your supper
Hello my friend. I sure wish I could run across some old equipment like that, maybe an old gravely or a power king, and get them in operating condition.
That’s a nice tractor really cool!
That’s a cool piece maybe sometime down the road you could do a full restoration on it.
That's great! Nothing makes you feel old like looking at some rusty dinosaur antique and then realizing it was made the same year you were 😂. There's an old man down the road from me that still uses one of these sometimes if you can believe it.
