I mean unless tacko wants to compete in the nba dunk contest he has absolutely no need to work on his vertical, since he literally has 10’2” standing reach which means all he needs is like 4 inch vertical to do a full reverse dunks, two-handed dunk etc. And if I’m not mistaken his vertical is between 26-28 inches which is enough for even a 6 ft man to dunk, so that’s actually pretty good.

When you jump above 40, landing is really difficult. Remember how Kobe's feet slid out from under him when he landed from a dunk. That comes from jumping too high. I used to fall like that all the time and people thought I was hurt. It's just the force from landing.

I dunno... Back in 1995 the Sonics played a pre season scrimmage game at Seattle Pacific University, when Kemp was in his prime. I made it a point to sit in the bleachers with my eyes at rim level hoping to see how high Kemp might get up for a dunk... He caught an alley oop in the second half and his friggen shoulders were at rim level on the catch and he dunked it on the way down with a tarzan swing... I've always wanted to see that dunk again because he really had to chase the crazy lob he was thrown and it was a miracle he dunked it... It remains the most nerf hoop thing Ive seen with my own eyes to this day... And he wasnt tea bagging his teammates, he was kneeing them in the face...

why do they record the vertical jump and not the vertical reach in basketball? Surely its better to reach the highest even if its some jump and some height 🤷♂️ Short guy can have one of the highest vertical jumps but its useless if his reach in comparison to others is rubbish.

It would be harder to calculate. Because they computed for the force of his jump. And you can't just compute it by visualising.

This proves that the rim he dunked on that was supposedly 12 feet isn’t actually 12 feet. If the maximum he could touch was 12’6” and generally needs to get around 6 inch higher than the rim to dunk then there’s no way he could off the backboard 2 hand slam like what he did. He probably could’ve dunked on 12 feet if he was jumping good that day but it wouldn’t look nearly as easy as what went down.

I kid you not. I was getting 12 ft. In high school, and my friend was about 3 inches above that. My jump was over 12' 5" when I was 20. 6'5 inches tall. I had to duck my head and bend at the waist when I slammed. 360 off vertical and cock it back for a two hands slam. I had a fifty inch vertical. Top of my head is 77 inches plus fifty inches on ventricle equals 127 inches. Plus 23 inches hand reach above my head equals 150 divided by 12 equals 12"6". I can get as high as DH.

Let’s be real. The rim really ain’t that high for 6ft and above players. 5ft players could do the same stuff as well in an 8ft rim. It just so happens that the standard bball rim height created is perfect for 6’0+ players. I want to see how well nba players play when the rim is at 12ft and the free throw and 3pt line are a lil further away back.
The rim is still pretty high for anyone under 6”2
when you see them standing below the rim or board it didnt look that it was too high for them not to mention when they extend their arms straight up making the rim much more less high for them💁🏻♀️💯…itll be much more impressive if youre height was like Spud Webb or Nate Robinson
