    We can’t talk about the 2020 BMW M550i without talking about the engine. The 2020 M550i gets an extra 68 horsepower taking the total to 523. It’s breathtaking. It’s calm and well mannered at slow speeds about town while you drop the kids at school, then hit a couple buttons and it’s an absolute savage. It’s quite simply wonderful.

    Astonishing bump in power output! Now more than double the original M5. The M550i makes the M5 a difficult choice to rationalize.
    Personally I still think the M340i strikes a better balance, but I can see how someone would want this for the extra luxury.

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes I was thinking a lot about the M340i while driving this and if made to choose, would probably pick the M340, was just a little bit more tighter and nimble, but hey.. either would do me just fine!

    • @bacvain
      @bacvain Před 4 lety +7

      You make a great point. Especially after the bump in HP on the M340i but with a family of 4 rear seat space is limited on the 3 series. For me standing at 6”2 and 3 more passengers the 5 series checks every box.

      I have a M550 and when you drive a M5, the choice is not hard at all. My 2021 M5 comp just docked in the US and I should have it in a week. Do not get me wrong, M550 is a GREAT car and enjoyed it for 3 years. For 2021, M550 gets the M5 seats minus the lighted M5 logo in the headrests.

    It could be used as a family sedan, but it's not ideal. I think I've seen Impalas with more backseat room and accessibility for children and car seats. That said, having this would do my little family fine, and that jump in power and refinement would have us cruising in style on holiday, or simply making grocery trips a sheer pleasure. It's a performance luxury car that can be used as a family car, but isn't really meant for that. Still... I'd love one in my driveway.

    I think the reason the rear seat postion in regaurds to the rear wheels is so tight is to keep the handling perfomance of the vehicle at top notch level. If you slide them further back youd lose the fun handling. Ill gladely tske the awesome handling over the extra couple inches.

The 535D was an incredible car to drive, the kick down was neck snapping, I had owned it for 8 years and was sorry to see it go despite trading it in for the 750. The 7 feels a lot bigger than the 5 despite it only being only a little bit bigger. The MPG on the 5 was between 50 and 60 mpg, thankfully I only drive about 2500 miles a year so the 15mpg round town or 28mpg on longer journeys is mot an issue. This new 5 looks great but who would order it in cow pat brown?

    BMW spent money on quality parts than electric sunshades. Visit Genesis forums and you will understand why Genesis is cheaper but more gizmos. Sunroof noises, trim fading, interior plastics falling apart, and list goes on. I was considering a Genesis until I did more research. The car will also feel old after a year or 2 due to cheaper bushings etc. That said BMW V8's engines are not trouble free. Some issues they still haven't figured out even in multiple generations. Their inline six is the best engine in the bunch. Then again we don't buy these due to being a totally trouble free experience due to the nature of BMW pushing the envelope. Still much better reliability than MB or Audi. Had them all.

    Stop comparing m550i with M5. Totally different car. M5 is in another league.

    M5, no need this BS info. Nobody wants a m550i if you csn buy a real M car like the M5.

      I can afford a M5 but wouldnt buy one, not needed. I like power and a V8 but I also like a softer ride so the 550 would be for me I think.. M5 too in your face and harsher suspension.

    So useless to buy a 550i... just buy the M5 ...

      M5 is senseless for daily driving. M550i gives you more comfort is almost as fast as the M5 and is way cheaper...
      If you don't go to track, but buy an M5, you'd be pretty dumb
