- The NEW M550i has been brought to a higher level by BMW for 2021. Under the hood is a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 that is producing 523HP & mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic. Power is transferred to the ground through BMW's Xdrive AWD system. On the outside you will find a revised front fascia, wheels, rear bumper and exhaust. On the inside you will find some nice updates, high end materials and lots of great technology.

I love my 2018 as well... the B&W is SO worth it. But you have to spend the extra $2500 to get it Dinan tuned... makes it a monster.
First person in youtube to review the faclifted 5 series. And u did the review in the scorching sun. Deserve a thumbs up. I love the m5 for its subtleness and its crazyyyyy power and u can change the the all wheel drive to rear wheel drive for burnouts and slaying tires.

Great review as always Joe! I love the Cerium Grey badging and how it ties in with the wheels, and sometimes the cerium mirror caps and front grille. It’s a pretty cool color!

This car is definitely worth the money if you’re looking for an good midside luxury sedan and the e class is too expensive I saw these in real life at bmw dealer and it’s ofcourse something I would consider so yes my money is on a 5 series

The harman/kardon sound system is standard on the M550i and is optional on the lower 5 series trims. The M550i has the option for a Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Surround system.

Great video Joe! M550I is a bargain compared to the M5. Curious I wonder why Mercedes doesn't make an E580 sedan with the V8 to compete directly with the M550I?🤔 The E53 doesn't cut it against the M550I.

Absolute beast of a car. You can spec these by the way with a version of the M5 seats (ie more bolster) at least in the U.K.

@@xjasx06 sorry, I don’t have the M550 any more. I traded in 2021 for an X5M. I didn’t have any issues with the car while owning it though. It should be a good buy as long as it was taken care of.

Great informative video as usual. I love everything about this car, the design, size, the twin-turbo V8, 4WD, the power. This is the car that made BMW make a proper M5 because a M5 was only RWD before the last generation, but the M550xi would outperform it in every way, especially if would did a flash. Essentially, this car is a detuned M5 and will achieve its level of power and transmission sportiness just by uploading the M5 software. My only question is, how will it be to live with out of warranty or lease? Are they still as notoriously unreliable? I hope the collaboration with Toyota in building the Supra and the level or QC that Toyota maintained in that parts had to be remanufactured several times to meet the standard, has an influence on BMW quality reliability from then on.
I had to come here and say that this is one of the most beautiful cars that BMW has ever made.

I don't know if you'll see this Joe...you might remember that I now own one of these cars, in part thanks to your review, but I wanted to mention something about the seats. You mention that they're comfy (they are) but you say that they're kind of flat (the back). A while after I bought the car I realized there's a button to electronically tighten up the side bolstering. They hold you nice and snug, and it feels great! Maybe the next time you're at a BMW dealer you can sit in one and see what I mean. On throttle!

Mine was delivered last Friday. No complaints, yet. Can't wait until its broken in so I can beat on it a little. A note though, mine has 4 settings for the ride control, not 3. I have the same Sport, Comfort and EcoPro as yours did, plus Adaptive. Could be because mine has Dynamic Handling with the Adaptive M Pro suspension and 4 wheel steering? The seat curve is adjustable too. They don't have to be flat. The wings can be pumped up with the buttons on the side.
I saw no real reason to get an M5. Power is a non-issue. Steve Dinans new company has a tune to make 698hp for $1250, or $2500 with a matching warranty. Makes way more sense than $25-30k more for the M5 (and mine is loaded up to $94k+). Only thing missing is the rear drive mode and the cachet, which, at least to me, isn't worth that much.

I believe the HK sound system is standard. The B&W system is an expensive option. Those seats do have power adjustable side bolsters that give you more lateral support. Not as much as a full /M but sufficient for twisty roads. Note most BMW model top seat options do have the adjustable bolsters, even the X models. PS: I have the 2018 M550i
For this car, the hk is the only choice from what it appears.

I am loving the new facelift on the 5-series. The only thing that bugs me is that ac vent and controls area...it just looks a little dated if you compare it to newer BMWs and other car manufacturers.

Usually most people who say this have never owned one. If I am correct BMW is still the top selling German Auto manufacturer.... I am actually in the market for this car it surprises me so many people talk ish and can't afford one

Seth Before Dishonor why is it necessary for bmw to make a huge grill for the m3/m4? It makes the x7 grill look small
