Who’s ready for an Audi vs BMW showdown?! We’ve got the Audi RS6 going up against the BMW M550i!
Now you may be wondering why we’re not putting the M5 up against the RS6. However, you long-term carwow viewers will know that we’ve done this several times before and that the M5 comes out on top! What’s more, even if it’s the ‘lite’ version of the M5, the M550i is still bonkers fast over the quarter-mile - so we had to see if it could follow in its big brother's footsteps!
So how do they stack up? Well the Audi RS6 is powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 which can deliver 600hp & 800Nm of torque. It tips the scales at 2,075kg, and it’ll set you back £95,000 if you’re looking to pick one up.
As for the M550i, well it's powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 (the same as you get in an M5, no less!), and as a result, it can put down 530hp & 750Nm. It weighs 1,915kg and it’ll cost you £71,000.

The m550i is probably one of the best all around cars currently on sale for the money.
Not if you want to have an estate. And numbers dont lie, in some markets over 70% of sold cars RS/AMG are estates. Still dont get it why BMW dont jump the train.

The M550i was still pretty impressive given the difference in power and tech.

I believe this was done before the BMW OTA update that fixed the timing issue which was not making the car go as fast as it should. I would love to see how this comparison would look like after the update!

M550i was recalled for an issue with the ECU. After the recall update the M550i is a much different car. The launch on the car was horrible. My 2021 will now spin all four. Considering it’s wet in the video, Carwow should have seen some pretty epic wheel spin

My 2021 was garbage off the line. After the update it’s much better. Like, 4.4 seconds down to 3.4 seconds

@@white_goose9782 Audi is the better option. M and AMG it took only a bit rain to drastically slow them down. The RS6 is a beast. Dragrace and track is bullshit to compare such cars. Weather Conditions is a lot more important and they both sucks at that.
@@LanGust8 I love Audi and the RS6 is my favourite. But the C8 RS6 just isn't good enough. No sporty sounding V8 and gearbox is lagging behind compared to the E63S AMG and M5. Maybe and hopefully they will release a performance version that will make up for this.

Hi, can you please tell me how much difference is there in comfort between 550i and m5. I like the m5 but I'm getting a 550i for much cheaper. Im Hoping the 550i is much more comfortable and not just slightly more.

@@vise5224 I have a 2020 M550i. I drove both and the M5, in my opinion, was too harsh for every day driving. Very stiff ride. The M550i is a luxury rocket. Very comfortable and plenty sporty - and a fire breathing beast when you want it to be.

Been driving G31 and G30 since 2017 now and NEVER had my hazard-lights on when braking. They aren't sensitive at all.

Did the M550i have the ECU update? HUGE difference in launch. That may explain the "soft" feeling you got from launch.

That's basically like the new golf R keeping up with the a45s. Yeah it's down on power but it's still in your back bumper the whole time which makes it satisfying for the guy in the lesser car and incredibly frustrating for the guy in the better car.
I'd still rather have the RS6 than a 550i for sure.
2021 M550i had a launch issue that was fixed via recall only in the last few weeks. Improves 0-60 by about 0.7secs.

M550i and RS3 are on my list for next car’s. Currently drive an M240i so idk if i’m ready to commit to a full size SUV or stick to compact. M550i just doesn’t have the handling of a compact, but man a full sized vehicle is just so much comfier than a compact.
It's crazy the M550 has a quicker 1/4 mile in rain than the F10 M5, and having less power. Shows how much more efficient and advanced the newer BMWs are.

The M5 is amazing, but as a daily driver it gets tiring very quickly. They are not comparable. The M550i is the comfortable, plush, daily driver which can still accelerate rapidly when needed, yet won't give you back problems being driven all day over UK pot-hole ridden roads.
I'd love an M2C but the running costs, and suspension stiffness would be crippling driving it to work and back every day. So I have an M140i which is a lot more comfortable, costs a lot less to run, yet is actually a fair bit quicker in a straight line now it's running 455bhp/634nm. But, it will never be a proper M car, because the chassis and suspension are not designed in the same way.
The fact that the BMW launches in the second gears is just making me numb
1. Wet races dont tell much of a story. 2. BMW is fixing the lag in this car viansoftware update so this is kind of meaningless. The updates are already available at the dealers. This will be a very very close race after the update
