So I've recently gotten into the whole Viggen thing and its a pretty awesome aircraft and I've had a lot of fun messing around with it, let me know what other aircraft you'd like to see the Viggen go up against.
Viggen VS Gripen
Lol push the limits of The Viggen!👍👍
Mosquito VS Pucara
i told you a match with "less than perfect" aircraft (or realistic kinda old plane handling) make interesting video. the viggen has the power to retain a lot of energy that it lost... it can't sustain it for too long. as soon as speed drop it start to show weakness... but at High altitudine with decent speed at the start is a worthy opponent. viggen vs mig21 or a4 can show more interesting air combat concept. this planes really force to do energy management and not only "knife flight rate fight all the way".
IN THE FACE !
@@AaaBbb-ff1pn Sugma deke good tho
Nice. Battle of the compressor stalls.
Looool, I haven't seen video yet, but I believe this is the best comment here!
Who will win??
Corkscrew Cat
Or...
*CLANG. CLANG*
Like in the movie up when the old men are fighting and they are so old that their swings break their backs when they try to kill each other.
Anyway to mitigate?
No bueno
Funnily enough the fighter version of Viggen used the same Central Air Data Computer as the F-14A/B, as well as an automatic digital flight control system developed by SAAB and Honeywell. There was a lot of technology transfer between US and Sweden during the cold war. The fighter version was developed and enhanced right up until it's retirement; acting as a test-bed for many technologies that made it into the JAS-39 Gripen, many of which are still classified so don't get your hopes up for an official JA-37D in DCS anytime soon.
In another story: I was working on the JA-37 Viggen when I was 15 years old as part of some 9th grade school work experience thing in 1995. Even got to play with the old Viggen simulator. It was only greyscale and was based on 3 monitors 3 meters above the cockpit. There were some kind of concave mirroring system so the depth perception was amazing. The chair had inflatable bladders and the straps pulled **hard** to simulate G's. My scrawny little teenage body got squished into a meatball, but I managed to shot down a MIG before I got too nauseous and had to hit the "panic" button. I also remember slipping after testing the hydraulics, damaging the barrel of the 30mm cannon (just back from service) about to be reinstalled, and then weren't allowed in the locker room with all the pin-up posters anymore. Bummer! :)
I thought Sweden was decidedly anti-American during the Cold War. One PM famously compared the US in Vietnam to Nazis even.
@@USN1985dos : That was Olof Palme. He had a personal crusade against the US..Especially as you say when US forces were protecting that dictactor in South Vietnam.
Rest were not at all that hostile against the US. We even got assurances from the US president to be included in the nuclear umbrella when we were on our way to get our own nukes. Thats why we had help building the Viggen program.
the CD-107 is not the same as the one on the f14a/b, it was designed by saab but used many american components

""I'm trying to stay above this guy, but my engine is compressor stalling... there's a Swedish guy named Svend in the back, who is absolutely kicking the shit out of my plane... you can hear him... he's trying to get the engine going again... BAM, BAM!!" - GS Comedic genius!! xD

Just lovely! Keep it up, man! =)
The tomcat pooted a little smoke too right before that. Did it compressor stall?

Swen vs Jester, now this is an Epic battle 😂😂😂😂

i really wish they would ad the actual Fighter version of the Viggen, the J37, it carried aim9L's and sparrows and an internal 30mm gun with 150 rounds
Later JA-37D´s even had 4*RB99´s (Amraams) and countermeasures
An even stronger engine as well..
The JA37 beecause the fighter had rocketpods aswell for ground attack
It was basically the AJ version of the viggen with the corresponding changes to make it a better dogfighter and interceptor, so despite being the Air-to-Air version the JA37 actually still had the capabilities of the older viggen models such as the capability to carry ASM, Bomb racks, etc etc
And the Oerlikon cannon mounted on the viggen shoot some real scary 30mms shell much bigger than the shell used un the aden/defa for example
I think sven was motivating the engine somehow back there🤣
The AJS 37 suffer from AoA limitations due to the RM8A. The JA 37 with its RM8B was quite a bit better in this regard. The JA 37 also had a better FCS and a much superior HUD. The integrated 30mm Orleikon gun was excellent. The PS46 radar and the FCS could work in conjuntion to aim the gun and kill a target several kilometers away.
IRL Viggen pilots managed to intercept and get a lock on the SR-71. Not many aircraft can boast of that. Also Viggens escorted an SR-71 with an engine blowout through the Baltic sea.
It would be interesting to see a JA 37 Viggen which was the air superiority variant.
I would LOVE an air superiority viggen
IRL viggen pilots also knew that the SR 71 would be flying in a narrow corridor in international airspace, near Sweden ie: on a known vector and time frame, on a '71 that was NOT in a high threat environment. (It wasn't being evasive - and was not really laying into those J58s as hard as it could've been.)
So while yes, that feat was impressive - its not quite the same as doing a cold simulated intercept vs an SR71 that dosen't want to be intercepted.
And yeah... the Viggen will always have a warm "little friends" spot in the USAF's heart for the escort job they pulled for that crippled blackbird incident.
The 4 swedish pilots involved were awarded the USAF air medal for bravery many years later.
@@stinkyfungus
All false! The SR-71 and Viggen's were tracked at a closing speed of Mach 5 so the J58 were pushing to maximum speed.
Also, the SR-71 pilots tried in vain to avoid the Viggens but failed, they used electronic counter measures against the Viggens but the Swedish pilots learnt how to avoid them.
And the SR-71's WERE operating in a high threat environment, it was the height of the cold war. Remember the SR-71 was a spy plane....
@@EndTimeDreams Uh, no your statement is completely false.
The top speeds of neither of these planes was anywhere near Mach 5.
Viggens couldn't possibly hope to catch up to an SR-71, the most they could do was climb at a specific point along the blackbirds known programmed flight path and catch a brief radar lock and some handheld photos before they lost sight of it.
The data link capabilities of the Viggen at the time were what was most impressive about the intercepts.
The only time Viggens caught up and flew with a blackbird was when one of its engines blew up and they did a friendly escort for it.
@@ltcuddles685 mate, closing speed means the rate at which they were closing in on eachother, the viggen from infront of the sr71, presumably the 71 going a bit over mach3 and the viggen a bit under mach 2
The SA (Siktes Automat) Automatic aiming that the JA 37 got in 1992 for the KCA Oerlikon would be interesting to see in DCS. It eliminated 90% of the error in 1 second and would also fire the gun when it had the best chance to hit, making it useful up to 2km.
The pilot only needed to roll the plane, the auto aim took care of the rest. This is probably why the ammo had no tracers.
SA means Styrautomat not siktesautomat
"Not in the face not in the face" - "Alright, he shot in my face"
Sidewinder: "Not the face!"
F-14: "Exclusively the face!"
I see people saying all the time how bullets and missiles fired at you, directly track your face, I didnt want to believe it. The logic is sound the video evidence is in abundance, i am now convinced, devs made the weapons in the game to specifically target your face.
I am also starting to get this impression lol.
@@GrowlingSidewinder Devs are stans for "not in my face, NOT IN MY FAAA" 🤣🤣💀
Everything I read about the Viggen was that it was built to gain altitude fast, use its powerful radar to lock on a target, shoot then scoot. It wasn't built as a close combat dogfighter.
This is the AJ-37 strike fighter variant it isn't designed with air to air in mind per se.
"Several distinct variants of the Viggen were produced to perform the roles of strike fighter (AJ 37), aerial reconnaissance (SF 37), maritime patrol aircraft (SH 37) and a two-seat trainer (SK 37). In the late 1970s, the all-weather fighter-interceptor aircraft JA 37 variant was introduced."
Great video - one thing I really liked about this was that you changed planes half way though. I really think it helps give a picture whether the outcome of the fight is because of differences in the plane or differences because you are the better pilot.
just realize that this is not always going to be possible due to the other guy not owning the other plane or maybe he isn't competent in it to put up a good fight, I guess where it is possible I will try to do it but just know if I don't its probably that reason.
@@GrowlingSidewinder Thanks for the explanation and understood!
I did my best back there!
Thanks for the effort buddy next time we gotta get you a wrench to hit the engine with it might just do the trick
Underrated comment.
Next time, please sit in the front gear well and push that weight on wheel button so GS can do that "I'll hit the brakes and he'll fly right by" sh!t with the reverser :D
"If I hit the thrust reverser, he'll fly right by".
We need to find a way to place Sven in the front gear well instead of the engine bay so he can keep that WOW switch pressed...
"The head on shots are just luck." Except for me, I die every time.
You can make great content out of anything! Thanks for showing us a bit of what the Viggen can (and can not) do.
I also really appreciated seeing a bit of the Tacview again, although I kinda wish you included the spin rate of that viggen you shot down (and yes, I know you would have a good reason for not showing it, since you always show the interesting bits); I can just imagine, it must have been like a negative G centrifuge in that thing!
With your eyes redding out, feeling your blood vessels get streched to the max, then bursting and oozing, damn, what a way to go...
I used to be a rate fighter like you, but then I took a compressor stall to the knee.
that Sven joke made me laugh, a swedish approved joke GS!
Yo GS, Svend banging on your plane had me cracking. Really digging the aircraft swaps to give both points of views. Keep it up. Have a pleasant day. Cheers
Sven: Oh, I was taking a coffee break on the ground. Ole was on engine pounding duty today.
I like how you almost always upload with in a few minutes of when I have lunch at school
*Not in the face not in the face not in the face* was my favourite part
thank you for showing that matchup, didnt realy belive you would do it
Just proves that it isn't always just the plane. The pilot does make a big difference. Good stuff GS!
Great video as always. Inspired me to finally buy some merch!
Thanks for supporting the channel Sean. Much Love Buddy.
A hard working day for Sven.
I really want the JA37, the interceptor/fighter variant of the viggen in dcs.
You almost had him twice in the Viggen but he was just a tad too slippery lol You pulled some nice jinks as well though. What I'm saying is I really like the way you, Sugma, deke! hahaha :P
Best Places to aim at in DCS:
1) Engine
2) Wing
3) Face
F15 vs MIRAGE soon? I would enjoy that.Keep up the great work
Should be the JA-37...
I want to see that famous Orlikon KCA in action!...
Supposedly has more kinetic energy than the the A-10s GAU and as much destructive energy as a sidewinder?!
Hope you doing well; Thanks for the video!
Everytime i see F-14 scenery my head automatically starts singing danger zone
Another one for "Moments of Death" lol The compressor stalls are a nice touch.
i wish there was the ja-37 its got some more power and turning capabilities i would like to see it in game
Love the subtitles. "We're in the F14 and we're gonna to be taking on a vegan"
and that's the ground attack version, we need the JAS-37 now. HB plz

@@tomas7158 chief that's the ground attack. The air defense version is JA
1:45 - You should have told him tomorrow is picture day. 🤣
The first round made me laugh esp when the tomcat hit you in the face lol
Oh, the crunching sound of bullets getting logged into your face right in the morning.
At the sound of the bell, it would be... 1:46 FACESHOOTING O'CLOCK! 😂
We're back to being dudes not lady's. We've got an upgrade
Imagine JA-37 Viggen with auto-aim ;)
Thats an absolutely moment.
Would be reallly nice to se the JA37 in DCS. With a even bigger engine and no comressor stalls.
Yeah, or maybe the F-14 in War Thunder
@@naveednawwaf War Thunder is not a simulator though so it doesnt matter much whether it is F14 or an alien spacecraft, it will be fantasy regardless to be fair.
@@SFDPSFDP That's true. But, I think f-14 is coming since the JA 37 came to WT
@@SFDPSFDP Still way more realistic than any other 'game' that has planes on the market, and the models usually look really nice.
This video helped me realize that Radiohead’s “Like Spinning Plates” is inspired by Chopin, even if they don’t admit it.
Also, when's the next kill compilation coming? Loved those two vids!
Ah yes, the Arthur (The Tick cartoon) school of battlecries.
"Not in the face! Not in the face!"
Fun fact: The Viggen has more or less the same flight computer as the F-14
This will be a guide for war thunder players in a few months

Hopefully War Thunder will fix its gamebreaking bugs by then
@@mitchconner403 yea just yesterday I was launching a AIM-7E-2 in my F-4E at an enemy J-37C (that was 6km away) at around 632 knots at about 7° AoA and I could you not... the sparrow some how lost all momentum and cut my own tail off like wtf?

If you enjoy being the underdog, how about flying the Yak-38, if DCS has it? Fun videos; I enjoy these.
Is that a new editing style? I like it! Or maybe I'm just imagining things...
Yap! I am hooked on this feeling!
If you try to stay below 24 AOA (depending on alt) your engine won't commit suicide. If it dies, go idle throttle, then move it back up and it will reignite. But you're doing a pretty good job.
hey sidewinder ive gotta give you a hug
Nice to see you keep Sven busy kicking the engine. He will grow up to be Bigfoot.
I would love to see the replay of the Viggen spinning itself apart in the 3rd fight.
Ah yes, quality content
Question: what is a compressor stall? how does it happen? And how to prevent it?
In a compressor stall the compressor portion of the engine is pushing more air into the engine then it can handle. Modern jet engines have a device called a bleed valve that open to allow the excess air to be dumped overboard. The only option to stop the compressor stall is to reduce engine power. In the real world a continuous compressor stall will damage the engine i.e. bend the compressor blades or the stator blades.
Those were the gun pods.. hahahahahaahaha
"Not in the face"

"Not the face! Not the face! Not the fac...."🤣🤣
I knew you would come around one day to the Viggen #ViggangForLife
alternative title: compressor stall battle
I will never get over how beautiful the F14 is
Trunk Monkey Sven just wants you to respect his plane, man!
this really aligns with my warthunder experience, the viggen will fuck you up in the first turn but after that it's food.
It's almost as if he heard you and shot the face anyways...🤣🤣
Ah... once again, Growling Sidewinder provides immortal and classic quotes! The latest! 1:54 "NOT THE FACE! NOT THE FACE! NOT THE F-!" *SPLAT AS HEAD EXPLODES*

I heard the 20mm bullet go right through your flesh and pop you like a balloon. . . .WOW
Nice wet sound effect on the first shoot-down
I dunno. Something about GS nonchalantly blowing off the engine coughing its lungs out reminds me of that
"This is fine." meme
Such a clean flight deck.
Kick that engine Swen! LMAO
Lmfao in round 3 the viggen turned into a beybalde 😂😂
After “Good Jeff! (My name is Jeff 🐵)”, “Thrust Vectoring Bullshit” and “Harrier Garbage”, presenting to you, the Swedish guy that sits in the engine bay of a Vigen, trying to push start the stalled engine by kicking the turbine 🧑🔧🩴🩴🩴
You have coolest intro
imagine how the fighter varient would perform with its higher service ceiling. thatd be a fun battle to watch
The main differences for this kind of fight are going to be the internal gun (so no need to carry heavy and draggy external gun pods) and the much improved intakes, so much less compressor stalling in high AoO, low speed flight.
I know the Swedish engine was a revolutions when it came out. Quite powerfully it was them who invented the valve in the afterburner.
I'd like to see dogfights using missiles XD
Kind wish there was close up footage of that spin
Or at least a Tacview
I have seen that viggen reach mach 2.0 at 45k feet, so it definitely has some hiding power lol
Can we get an instant replay of the Viggen getting hit by your gun and spinning out of control until it breaks apart? Was hoping to see that again close up, rather than only from a distance through your F-14's canopy. I've never seen an aircraft in DCS roll that fast before, controlled or uncontrolled.
Depends on what Viggen you take. The AJ or JA ;)
The AJ was made primarily for ground attack and hunting planes secondarily.
The JA was oposite, Air-targets first, ground secondly :)
they also have small diffrences and one is actually longer than the other one!
"WHERE MOSQUITO!" I asked calmly
to me the F-14 is most beautiful war machine ever built!
nice fly!
"not in the face" that's what she said
That Round 2 just got my Swedish Viking horns growing out! then again Viking horns are a myth...But so is this matchup!!
Nice fight
PS. Never underestimate an angry Sven
Sweden cant compete with a superpower but we have made some pretty cool airplanes.
Oboy i havent seen any other climbe with the Tomcat like that. And finaly the Viggen. 👍
1:47 "Not the face not the face not the fa-"
I just keep wondering what could Tomcat do if some of the crazy upgrade ideas made it. Things like 1.3Ma supercruise and thrust vectoring... not to mention 9X and AMRAAM integration.
Not in the face, not in the face... 🤣 that was pretty graphic...
dcs needs JA 37
Would love to see the f4u on here someday
