  • In this video I go over my custom exhaust on my 1996 Ford F-150 with a 5.0 Liter V-8 and give you a listen on how it sounds. On these trucks they don't have independent catalytic converters to run true dual exhaust. So I use a Y-pipe to give it a nice sound.

    That's one clean 96 F150. I have a 96 F150 that I bought on Craigslist for $3300 at Wentzville MO back in October and it's in good shape, runs good, drives good even with 202,800 miles on it.

      Thanks. I bought this truck from a guy I know for $2,000. The top color of the two tone was faded bad from the clear coat peeling off. The previous owner had hail damaged fixed and apparently the body shop that did it either used cheap clear or not enough. But the rest of the paint looked good so I had just the top part painted, buffed and waxed the rest of it. I replaced the head and tail light lenses and tinted the Windows just to finish it off and dress it up. I'm happy with the results especially for a knock around truck. I've got about $3,000 total in it. 235,000 miles and still running strong.

      +Michael Wells that's good. When I bought my truck we had to take it to the shop to get the steering fix because it was wobbly, then it was shuttering in the rear so we had to get that fix, then the original starter died so we put a new starter on the day before thanksgiving, then it was shuttering again because the transmission was shifting too fast we took it to the shop and clean it all out and ever since then it never had a single problem. The cost total on this truck was over $5,000. So far though I've haven't had a problem yet and the truck is still running good.

    Just to let you know that one great looking 96 F150. I bought my from 1996 F150 from a guy that runs tire shop. i had to fix the lights on the doors because the lenses that went over the lights were missing.
    And i had the dash pad on the passengers side redone painted back to the correct interior color and replaced the bezel that goes over the insturment
    cluster. My truck has 300.000 miles on it and still going strong.

    Sounds pretty good man. You'd be surprised though, I removed the cats off my pop's 04 Chevy Silverado 5.3 (103k miles) and ran a 3" Flowmaster 40 with 2.5" tailpipes and the truck runs great. Didn't do anything to the oxygen sensors and it hasn't had cats for over a year now and no issues. Your truck would run fine without them, the o2 sensors only monitor the efficiency of the cats, not the air/ fuel ratio like the pre-cat o2 sensors, now inspection would be another thing. We don't have inspections or emission testing where I'm at so I'm lucky.

    • @KsKaylor
      @KsKaylor Před 4 lety

      Ford Fanatic Definitely need your pre-catalytic converter oxygen sensors but not necessary the post cat oxygen sensors if you are deleting the catalytic converters. I kept all my oxygen sensors, just removed the cats for straight pipes. 5 years later at 130k and truck is still running great

    Nicely done, and sounds good too! I did the same on a 87 Crown Vic. but the Crown Vic had 4 cats, so it had true dual exhaust, with an amazing sound out the back! Thanks for sharing. I just Subscribed.

      Thanks! I like these old ford trucks. It has 260k miles on the original engine and transmission and it doesn’t use a drop of oil. The original owner was very meticulous with maintenance on it.

  • @AdmiralRustyShackleford

    I'd like one of these trucks. A friend of mine had one, he cut off the muffler and ran the pipe out the side in front of the rear tire. It's not really loud at all, just a nice deep sound.

    The second converter is not monitored by an o2 sensor i cut mine off and haven’t had an issue and it sounds amazing. That second converter is for California emissions and if the truck had California emissions standards it would have o2 sensors for that second cat

    • @AdmiralRustyShackleford
      @AdmiralRustyShackleford Před 4 lety

      It does have an O2 sensor after the cat, if it's a 96. That's the 1st year of OBD2 so there's a sensor after the 2nd cat (or in the cat itself). If it's a pre-95, there isn't one, being OBD1.

    Have you ever had a bad injector on this 5.0? I think I have one that is leaking fuel into the cylinders. I don't know how to determine which one is bad other than pulling them all. Looks like a big job & quite expensive. Especially the ones on cyl. 1,2,3,4 Plenum would have to be removed. Mine is a 95 with a build date of 12/94. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Also the fuel mileage is terrible and runs rough at idle.

    • @MikesGarage96
      @MikesGarage96  Před 5 lety +2

      I’ve never had a bad injector on this one. One way to check for a leaking injector is pulling the spark plugs out. If the injector is leaking on a certain cylinder the plug will be wet and smell strong of gas

      It cost me around $100. Pricing will vary depending on location. Also, a lot of shops don’t like running straight exhausts. You may have to go around and ask a couple different places.
