    I was all set to buy one, then I saw this video. I think I'm going to hold off now, and wait to see the actual reviews when the public starts to use the device. If it's as good as it says it is, buying at full price won't be a deal breaker. At least for me. Thanks for the review.

      @@BikeHombre I am not surprised. I think it would be pretty telling if someone like ebikeschool can’t get a hold of it, because that would throw up some red flags for me. Most likely going to be similar to the Rubbee X, I can’t imagine it would be all that strong with rubber on rubber. I’ve never had an e-bike and I’m considering doing some kind of conversion kit with my bike, but it’s a 29er so I’m not sure of what to do. I think I’d prefer something I can do myself and that would definitely be limited to the front wheel, but I don’t know a reputable 29” front wheel conversion kit from all the other junk around alibaba and Amazon and everywhere else.

    I’ve been looking into ebikes, but it seems like as of now, no company is really perfect in terms of customer support or reliability unless you’re spending upwards of $3000. Which is just something I can’t afford to do right now. So for me, a simple to install and relatively affordable kit like this would be great, even if it lacks power.

  • @dalvenable331
    @dalvenable331 Před rokem +2

    most all my E-bikes have been conversions. and yes some kits are better than others when it come to installation. This remind me of the Old E-bikes from the 1980's that had an electric motor on the front wheel mounted to a spring board, when you wanted to engage the motor you would squeeze what looks like a brake handle to both pull the motor roller to the wheel and start it. with an old lead acid battery. You mentioned that it is small for an electric bike motor but I have seen folks using dewalt drills for E-bikes so there is that.

    I too am very skeptical about the drive system. But back in the old old days, we ran a little generator wheel against the edge of the tired (flat inner side of tire, not outside treat surface, mind you) and they worked great, other than causing extreme drag on the bike, so we could run a headlight etc back when rechargeable batteries were a joke and light bulbs were all incadescent.
    So my big question is the tread thing for sure... combined also with the way it puts pressure on the tire... the method of technology, I mean, since it must give a fair bit if there is a suspension on the wheel, and if it is moving up and down and all around on that suspension then the wheel contact will be terrible, if functional at all. But presumably it is hinged with a stiff spring of some sort... so ... maybe??? it'll work???

    Cool idea but I'm skeptical. How much power can really be delivered with the limited traction a rubber wheel on a rubber wheel provides... It's not going to be that much pressure from the units rubber to the bike wheel also (nothing near what u would get in a hub motor). Also it's tiny, the power output muts be pretty low based purely on battery size

      @BigWaveDav1 Před rokem +3

      I read it's 250watts, but the regen capability has me intrigued. I live in the rural mountains with some steep grades out my front gate. I'm old now with bum knees and bad lower back, so I haven't been riding, but really miss it. I just bought an E-bike at an attractive Black Friday price, to get back into it...One of these mounted as a brake assist on steep downhill sections, theoretically could help charge my main battery to length it's range and longevity (less heating/wear)
      I think I'm going to give it a try...

      I don't think that this is supposed to compete with a hub motor e-bike. If you are just looking for a little help getting up hills while you are bicycling, not e-bicycling, this looks pretty slick. The rubber wheel driving the bicycle tire is not anything new. I remember 60 yrs ago they had 2 cycle motors that drove the front tire like that. Probably longer than 60 yrs ago, but I'm about 70 yrs old, so that's as far back as I know about. If it really has an 18 mile range and really does work on hills this sounds like a great idea for a lot of riders that are not concerned with trying to convert their bike into a motorcycle. Lol. Maybe throw an extra battery in you backpack and go. The whole thing can be put in a pack and taken with you. $600 is a bit much though, and I wish China didn't make everything. The $300 introductory price seems like a deal.

    We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. czcams.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

    I find it incredible that anyone could have such a ridiculous idea.
    Firstly, you need a mudguard in the rain or your back gets drenched.
    Secondly the friction wheel would slip in the wet, unless it was so firmly pressed to the tyre that it would wear out your rubber.
    Thirdly, seat height is restricted, not everyone rides with eight inches of seat-tube extended
    Finally, pneumatic seat tubes or suspension, or a rear rack are impossible.
    A fine example of a chocolate fireguard.

    • @joshualowry2000
      @joshualowry2000 Před rokem +2

      I disagree. The fundamental idea is more than doable.
      1. I agree about the mudguard. They should have put one in, but it doesn't mean the friction drive concept is so terrible.
      2. Presence of slip is a drawback of the friction drive, but smart technology in the motor controller and a suitable contact wheel and contact mechanism can minimise both slippage and increased tyre wear to manageable levels. It will never be the perfect ebike conversion solution that will satisfy everyone... but some people will prefer the lower cost and ease of installation with the trade-off of occasional slippage and minor increase in tyre wear rate. And may I add that slippage will only happen in bad weather, when frankly you wouldn't want to be riding anyway - and a well designed drive should still be overall usable in bad weather. This device could also be very conveniently removed by the user and carried around or left on your work desk, so as to prevent the value of the electric system (motor, battery and controller) from being stolen if the bike is stolen. This, combined with fewer parts, like a separate motor wheel, can keep the cost lower. It's all about tradeoff.
      3. It's not compatible with every bike setup in terms of seat post or rear rack, but it doesn't mean it's garbage. Using the same logic, you could write off a typical wheel hub motor conversion kit, because there is no one size fits all and there are different wheel sizes. Or a mid-drive solution because not all bikes have the correct hardware around the crank shaft. My point is that it's all about tradeoff, and this solution could work well for a lot of people. No one said it would work for everyone.

    I see that they have a charging cable, but there is not any reference to charging other than the regenerative capabilities. I am also concerned as to the level of control management of the individual battery cells. Lithium batteries need to be handled carefully during charging to prevent over charging and to detect overheating cells. That is the job of the controller. The image it show of it is very small and looks insufficient to manager multiple cells. We will have to wait and see. I like the concept. I hope it does work as promised. When I reached out to them they said because the product isn't ready yet. I looked at their Indiegogo website and Livall says that they will start shipping out in July. So I'm going to reach back out to them then and see if I can get my hands on one to review to let everyone know if the PikaBoost is any good or not. Thank you for the comment!

      @@BigWaveDav1 You also do not know me but were quick to decide also. The word hypocrite comes to mind but I will keep it there. Also you expect me to imagine all the various out of the box ways you might use a motor designed to make contact with and power a bike wheel. None of them justifies that this is nonsense. How much force can this produce to power the weight of the bike and the rider as well. There is a certain amount of downward force it will have to put on the back wheel to make it spin. Just look at the other electric bikes both the batteries and the motor has to be able to move the bike and rider. So since you seem so invested again do a video on it and I will change my mind.
