I highly doubt they would sign Alonso. Mercedes wants George to be their superstar for the future, and bringing in a driver like Alonso would recreate the problem Mercedes has just solved with Lewis leaving. I think they would sign someone like Sainz or Albon, or go for a young driver like Antonelli should he prove himself.

@@noahdoerfler1865 lets hope so, but we have all seen him make mistakes at crucial points where you just can't make a mistake. case in point was the race where he was chasing down lando and sainz with lewis right behind him and he juuuust clipped the wall and crashed out. my bet that if he had let lewis pass him when he caught russel two laps before he crashed, lewis would have been able to pass lando and sainz who did not have the tires to hold him off and lewis would have won that race

Toto has three brave options to choose from, Alonso who is still fast and desperate for a third title, Palou who is brilliant and should be in F1, or Antonelli who probably is tomorrow’s man. I don’t see anybody else that’s available who is better than George Russell. Personally, I think they need to build their team around a better driver than George if they want to dominate again. As a McLaren fan, I hope they go for a safe pair of hands and get Bottas back again. George v Bottas would be fun!

The long term is Kimi Antonelli, in 2025 maybe he drive in F1 but on williams, making experience, and 2027 if he is good go to Merc... they need a good driver for those years... no matter the age... only the performance. The future start of Merc is Kimi Anonelli.

I've always thought that Hamilton's success at Mercedes has more to do with the Team and the Car, than it did his "talent/skills". If I'm right (and I am), then Hamilton won't win another Championship at Ferrari, because they've lost the ability to work as a Team. Ferrari are a shambles!
You could slot ANY driver into Hamilton's seat; and it wouldn't change a thing in the Championship titles.... with the sole caveat being Mick!
Mick Schumacher has one year of experience working with the Team. They respect him. He knows what's expected of him, as well as how to properly communicate with the team (Something the Guenther didn't give him at Haas). Mick would give Mercedes a year and a half more than anyone else (except maybe Alonso) to get the car back to being competitive.
The only problem with Alonso is that he's still an unknown quantity. He's closer to retirement than many people believe. He doesn't have the years left in him to bring the team back to contention for titles.
Whether you put Alonso or Schumacher in Hamilton's seat, it won't change WHEN Mercedes is ready to challenge for a title again. If you give it to Mick, it will at least give Mercedes some longevity in the fight for championship titles.

F1 needs to ban the driver development programs; and get back to scouting proper talented drivers. All they've done is exclude anyone who isn't in their development programs, resulting in lackluster talent. Somewhere outside of F1 is another Senna, or Schumacher (Michael); and these idiots won't find them, because they won't look past their development programs.
Why he did move? ONLY FOR THE MONEY! Merc didn't make him the best paid driver on the grid so he left to the ones willing to pay.
