Andretti Receives UNEXPECTED Support For 11th F1 Team!

  • Andretti is slowly but surely starting to gain the sympathy of the F1 team principals, and it seems like the last one was kind of the most unexpected one on the grid! McLaren has expressed its positive thoughts about Andretti joining the grid, and while many think that the collaboration between the Woking-based team and the IndyCar competition does have a lot to do with this, the view from Brown is quite different. After Brown’s statement, was this the ‘last straw’ for the FOM to let Andretti in-and if not, what would be the biggest hurdle, according to one of the high-profile F1 business experts, that would ‘guarantee’ a deny of application for Andretti?

They want to keep their Billionaire boys club closed. What does Williams bring to the sport? History? If we look closely at that history what do we see? A team that showed up and qualified, headed by a man with genius ideas. Why does the shell of Williams and Haas and whatever A/R calls themselves worthy of a precious slot, but a legendary racing name with success across multiple racing disciplines does not? Hypocrites…..Toto doesn’t want another competitor they have to beat, they want the back markers to stay in the sport and stay in the back.

I see Gallagher as just another English snob who maintains his relivance by toeing the current party line in order to garner the occasional invitation to the Mercedes hospitality booth. Before things become mired in sand like the BEF at Dunkirk, teams reaping the benefits of 6 events in the Americas might want to come to understand the phrase "anti-trust law". Can the FOM explain why for years they have been paying out to teams the incorrect amount of money?
The Concorde agreement already allows for 12 teams so is it really so difficult to divide the pot by 12 and pay out 10/12ths of this pot to the 10 teams currently competing.
If this had happened all along then there would be no difference to the slice each team gets apart from it being based on the season end scoring position.
The team principles are against them because there is a real fear of Andretti outscoring most of the other teams in the races.
The other plus point of Andretti entering is there would be the chance to supply at least one other team with the GM engine.

    • @adaml83

I think for a while they only paid out to the top 10 teams in the finishing order. It was a dumb move that killed quite a few teams, otherwise there was potential for an 11th team to survive. Could still have Manor, or they could have been bought out.

I think it's good to let a new team in that is not british or italian.
Especially if they develop their own car, and bring in a new engine manufacturer. Regarding this I'd rather see Andretti in F1 than a team like Haas.
More diversity in technical heritage is I think a good thing for the sport. Time must tell whether or not Andretti can launch a competitive car, but I think the amount they're willing to invest is impressive.

No worries, Mike can bring it together, I think he will have a rude awakening when it comes to the drivers, and the huge leap in profession they must have.

There were eleven teams in F1 as recently as 2014. Hamilton, who won the title, Ricciardo, third, Alonso, Bottas, Hulkenberg, Magnussen and Perez were all racing in that season. Teams claiming is is "traditional" to have ten teams must have short memories. In 2012 there were twelve teams and again Hamilton, Ricciardo, Alonso, Perez and Hulkenberg were driving then. The prize money was different, but with the huge growth thanks to Netflix and the USA getting on board there should be plenty to share eleven ways. I think there is an element of greed and a little bit of fear involved in the thought processes of those who oppose an eleventh team.

      @ralphhathaway-coley5460 Před 5 měsíci

The use of the phrase @traditional' is very misleading, actually (historically) it is much more traditional for teams to sell current and previous years F1 cars to other teams and individuals to run in F1 races along side the main teams.

As an American who has watched Andretti Autosport grow, his business model is not to be a back marker and collect prize money. He invests a lot to win. In Rallycross, he’s funded a top notch team. In IndyCar, it’s a top destination for drivers looking to win races and compete for a championship. IMSA Sports Car racing is similar with his Acura powered team. He’s even dabbled in Motocross and had some success. I don’t think this is about money. I think this is also Michael proving what he couldn’t do when he drove in F1, and that’s to win. I also don’t think GM would jump on board to be a back marker, especially knowing Ford has partnered with Red Bull. I also see Andretti being another bridge gap between F1 and IndyCar, something IndyCar needs more of. Andretti, in a very roundabout way, and invested in a NASCAR team, Spire Motorsports, which is putting the pieces together to be a competitive team. Gainbridge is an investment company that’s invested a ton in Andretti. Gainbridge has essentially purchased a large portion of Spire Motorsports, which I see as a very roundabout way for Andretti to get into NASCAR and wouldn’t surprise me if in a few years Spire is rebranded to Andretti. I think it’s good for Motorsport.

FIA has been accused ot overstepping its bounds where F1 is concerned, and Andretti Motorsports' F1 application appears being used by F1 teams as an example of FIA's overstepping its boundries. F1 owner Liberty Media, and the head of FIA Mohammed Ben Sulayem, appear to be drawing battle lines for some kind of future conflict. I just hope whatever power struggle happens doesn't blowup F1.

I suspect another issue is other teams do not like the idea of American drivers. yes, I know there is Logan Sargeant, but Andretti wants American drivers and that does not help the other teams who have lots of F2 graduates who need a ride. I also suspect there is some European snobbery at play here. it is foolish for the other teams to try to block Andretti and especially Cadillac. I think it is pretty much a sure thing that Andretti will add value.

Name me an American driver who is definite F1 level that has a super license and is young enough to take on F1 now. Indycar is full of non American drivers and I watch Indycar.
If they existed the F1 teams would be giving them tests.
F1 is not about the nationality of teams . The stars are not the teams its the drivers. Thats why fans go to races. They dont go to see Ferrari win they go to see LeClerc win. Top F1 teams have the best drivers . They are never employed based on their nationality.

Andretti, has the desire and passion, proved with the pushing past the obvious walls F1 has put up. They've got GM involved, got a great sporting history, got money.

Ohhh but prize money, sorry but the only financially unstable team on the grid is hass and they want out anyway, merc can jog on, we suffered 7 years of total merc domination and now they’re suddenly worried about not having enough money?? Come on. At the end of the day Andretti will only add to the sport, they’re a team that even the most casual of American racing fans know and are incredibly successful, as a Brit to me if you want to expand the American market and the exposure of the sport over there is by having a big American name simple.

There needs to be a bigger shake up to F1 than just adding a new team. Add more races but run the championship over 20. The teams can choose which 20 they enter (to suit their car). You could then accomodate 14 - 16 teams, giving more driving positions for F2 winners. It could also extend the battle of the championship to the last race.

  • @mustvid
    @mustvid Před 6 měsíci +7

American here. I’m an F1 fan and I really don’t care about nationality. So, my comments could be for any team trying to enter. First off, the current owners are your typical old white guys at a private club, entitled snobs who think only they know how to race and run a business.
I love Steiner but he’s a major hypocrite if you know how he leveraged the rules to get his team in. His owner is a convicted felon and he is also being investigated for violating US Export laws. That’s a great look for F1. After Steiner exploited the rules, FIA changed everything as a result, making it harder for another team to enter.
I Used to respect Toto until I realized that he’s an arrogant, entitled, and a huge cry baby. He didn’t build a team. He bought Team Braun after they won the championship. There is only 4 competitive teams on the grid right now and that’s the way Merc, Red Bull, and Ferrari want it. The other 6 teams aren’t and won’t be competitive anytime soon. So, these teams are more afraid of a well financed team with owners that do have F1 DNA along with a racing pedigree. This represents the possibility of real competition, which they don’t want.
Apparently, They’ve not even taken the time to read Andrettis’s proposal and yet they are against it. What kind of business man rejects a proposal before reading it? Now, an American company, Netflix, created an F1 show that drove the popularity of the sport way up along with dollars and two more races added to the schedule. That also adds more money. And yet these entitled team principals/owners want to enjoy all the popularity and money and reject expanding the grid with an all American team. And before you say it, Haas is not an all American team even though the Italian born Steiner lives in the US.
What we are seeing is European snobbery at its best. I understand that America is like a Bull in a china shop. I’m not blind to her history and the money/power perception and reality that rubs people/countries the wrong way. However, this is a legitimate team and proposal that should be seriously considered and not rejected out of pocket like it is. I don’t care if an American driver is or isn’t on the grid and the same with a team. However, if these owners want the money that the American market brings, then an All American team is a necessity for long term fan participation and ratings and that equal big dollars. Flame away! 😀😀😀

Andretti is not getting the sympathy of the F1 teams . I dont know where you get that from?
Zak Brown is not endorsing an Andretti entry. He has simply said the teams still dont know any detail about what the entry is and so they are waiting for Andretti to tell them before he can consider his position on it. Why over a year after announcing their intentions and months after the FIA agreed their basic submission from a governance point of view are the teams still waiting? If Zak is saying that and he is a friend of the Andretti family then its not looking good.
Why after Cadillac said they were backing the entry did they never say what that meant . It took them 9 months to announce they would make a new engine. It clearly was not their original intention and I dont think it is likely to happen. In 2 years market conditions will force them to drop the idea once the Andretti bid is over the line.
It talks about an American involvement in F1. The Americans own F1! Also if you look at F1 cars they are festooned with dozens of the biggest American corporations in sponsorship. if Andretti is going to attract all new sponsorship why does it struggle to do that in Indycar?
There is a big elephant in the room and that is this. F1 is gaining traction in the US without Andretti. If Andretti joins and then becomes a back marker and eventually pulls out that could undo all the good work so far done.
The American market is an important market but F1 is a world sport with big markets around the world and it must not sell its traditions and what make sit unique on the alter of the US. No "start your engines" please.

Why is it that when American teams get involved with something it has to be all or nothing with USA attaching itself to every level. We have F1 teams that have drivers, mechanics, HQ's and bosses from different parts of the world that make up one team. When Andretti gets his 11th slot, it will be ALL America, American driver, engine, HQ and mechanics! This is the kind isolationism that the sport does not need or want! It shouldn't be about a GB team versus a USA team versus an Italian team etc!!!

Andretti will attract young engineers, mechanics, and analysts from other teams looking for opportunities to move up the ladder. This could be why they are ok with him buying a current team. Andretti "knows" F1 it's silly to state otherwise, but the last thing they want is for Andretti to take away their young and old experience talent.

Also maybe some push back from those in the background with indy cart or whatever it is called now. I myself would not like to see Lotus back or Brabham they were great teams in the day , but there more to a team than just a name Lotus was never the same after losing it heart and soul and fonder Colin Chapman . Nore would Brabham be again more than a brand name without a Gordon Murry both teams had design genius's at there core.
But Andretti needed to be well equiped and with the best people he can find .anything else would be a disastor . I am sure if they bring enough money to the table there will not be an issue, in a sport that is driven by greed .I have not personlly enjoyed the sport since 2000. You can still have good racing even if you have one team winner a large part of the races. I just find the whole operation bad
All about ego's and flaunting wealth. Something need to change maybe Andretti can bring some life back into this sport.
