All-New 2022 Cannondale Jekyll | Hidden Shock & High-Pivot Design

- This video contains paid for product placement for Freewheel. This is Cannondale’s all-new Jekyll, a 165mm rear travel enduro bike featuring a high-pivot and burly 170mm fork.
Cannondale’s Jekyll, in various forms, has seen more than its fair share of success on the enduro race scene over the years, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen it on the podium.
Tongues got wagging when the Cannondale truck rolled into the first round of the downhill World Cup in 2019 with a rather unusual, twin shock equipped bike piloted by the talented Matt Simmonds.
Were they coming back to downhill after all these years? Or were they working towards something none of us could have predicted? Well, it appears the latter might well be true.
As you can see, the new Jekyll is an entirely different beast to its predecessor. According to Luis Arraiz, Cannondale’s lead engineer on the project, “the goal for the new Jekyll was to create the ultimate descending enduro bike.
All the decisions in terms of suspension layout, idler, axle path, anti-squat, anti-rise, leverage ratio and centre of gravity were driven by that specific goal.”
After nearly three years of hard graft, the bike you see before you is the product of a massive amount of work.
What do you think of the new Jekyll? Let us know in the comments below!

#CannondaleJekyll #EnduroBike2022 #Jekyll2022 - Sport
What do you think about the new Jekyll? Fair to say that paint is incredible!
As the philosopher Diaz said. “I ´m not surprised moher #$%&er”
It looks great. Enjoyed their lefty days. Have a pull shock trigger too. Feels like they’ve taken a few years to settle into regular forks and innovate elsewhere. Definitely innovation in the rear end here!
It looks awesome! I'd really love to demo one to get the ride feel of it.
Sikk! Looks amazing! Definitely want to ride it in my size. Just wondering how the XL would feel. I'm 6'3 255lbs.
@@kyleduerr9813 I’m 6’1” and I’d definitely go xl. Bought my Trigger in L and wish it was bigger
Cannondale recommend 25% sag on the rear shock, but I ignored that and it didn't work, so I set it to 25% and it did. Genius.
By far the best looking high pivot bike without sacrificing performance, proportion wise is spot on
First Scott, now Cannondale... looks like we're entering the era of hidden shocks
I was thinking the same thing man!
waiting the Giant answer for it)))
"First Scott..."...yeah no
@Merlijn you are not kidding, seems like a design theft. All they did was slim line the chasis design. Did Scott buy them up do you think?
First was trek with the super caliber
One of the best paint job in a bike
That paint job is unreal
Looking forward to seeing the Norco Range comparison.
Devinci too.
I love the look of this bike. I've had my eye on high pivot models for a while now. The challenge will be where to find one and ride it!
Looks brilliant n seems by many to have that great balance n high performance with no bad manners...great work Cannondale
That looks like one hell of a trail sled! Great job cannondale im already looking into getting one 😅
Ive ordered mine already such dreams😍🔥
That looks awesome!
Love it....nice color!
Nice review Rob
HTA 64, STA 77.5. Idler pulley. Wheelbase is 1227 for me so +4cm from my bike not bad not too long. Pretty much bang on what I'd want from a bike. Winner in my enduro book.
Only problem as someone mentioned in comments is the cradle that the shock is in and how that works with mud, doesn't 😂. Personally don't ride in that kind of mud but if you are on a trip then you are going to just ride what is out there and if it's mud then that's what it is. It's pretty rare, but looks like a legit problem.
Looks amazing. I bet it rides like a dream. Not a budget bike but looks like you get what you pay for. 👍👍👍
Looks awesome! Nice paint too.
Although I think the bottle cage needs to be lower as it's looks like the bottle's rubbing on the top tube.
Vant wait for it to turn up 😎
Love the look
yes i have previewed this mtb already and i can hole heartedly say that cannondale are back with this beauty, it's handling is very responsive
Is the Jekyll only good for going down steep descents or is also good for climbing and jumping, bunnyhopping, etc.?
this is awesome🔥🔥🤙🤙
Where Art meets Engineering!!
Don't scuff the paint work - green-gold blends with the fork😘
Nice bike ! Hopefully it’s a successful bike for Cannondale
All the high pivot, hidden shock, 170mm front and rear makes bikes like the megatower feel old school. 😅
Awesome bike. Waiting α τεστ between Spark and Jekyll....
what can you say on chucking a dhx2 on this beast?
What sort of pressure are you running in the rear shock?
I'm struggling to find a balance, it's very firm at 25% sag, i have compression wide open also.
The suspension isn't very sensitive.
I don’t ride a Jekyll, but I’ve found that putting the pressure pretty low and then putting the compression and rebound quite high works very well for all the different suspension I have tried
Hey is their a lefty version of the jekl
is it just a feeling or are 650b bike being sac´d ? everything new and interesting (hight pivot, idler) is in 29 or mixed
what was the back protector he was wearing
No way...lefty missing...its a must:))))))
Carbon: *Gravity Cavity*
Alloy: *Poverty Cavity*
Throw another 2 linkages then I'll consider it.
Where can i find the suspension setup guide like you've mentioned? Didn't come with any guides. Cheers
The Cannondale website. but the link doesn't work -_-
I love it but $3700 USD for a frame that only comes in brown? Hard to justify when you can get a META AM 29 frame for $1400. You could build a very nice bike with the difference. Then spend your money on lift tickets and MTB trips.
Try almost $3000 with the same shock and not made of carbon so not bad price from Cannondale really.
@@rich689 I'm talking about the frames only. It's easy to argue about different specs yada yada. It is $3,700 for JUST the jekyll frame. It is $1,400 for JUST the cheapest META frame.
At least Cannondale is not going apeshit with their pricing like they used to. Both builds are right inline with their competitors
looks: 10/10
HIDDEN SHOCK: 11111/10
suspension: 9/10
Bruh this bike has close to zero flaws
What was the sizing like with the medium ?
How tall are you?
Thanks
For me, at 172cm/5ft 8in, the sizing felt really good. Roomy enough but without feeling too stretched out or unwieldy in slower, tighter sections, but still more than stable enough at speed. Cheers!
@@robweaver5849 thanks for the reply, I can't decide on the medium or large, the canonndale size chart recommends large @177cm which is 5ft8 not 172 cm?
@@robweaver5849 where can find the suspension setup guide?
Looks awesome but the Norco range looks awesomer and cheaper!
It's all fun and games until it's time to clean it. I can't imagine having to scrub in all those hidden spots
Cool bike. The Scott looks much cleaner.
Completely agree but the Spark is a totally different bike. Spark XC. Jekyll Enduro.
@@mrsmartypants_1 hes talking about the genius 🤡🤦
It went together easily in less than an hour. czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
Why does that shock guard not fully enclose the shock? Seems a daft design which will be a nightmare in the UK for mud and crap gathering down there
Probably to let the crap coming from up to go down
Agreed. It really looks like a bad last minute cobble job. In my opinion an internal shock in an enduro makes little sense with all the issues involved with it. Scott on the other hand did a great job with their XC Spark - that bike is a thing of beauty.
I don't like how the bottom cover separates from the frame.
Un magietto per fango
So Cannondale and Norco have built the same bike. Interesting.
did the camera guy walk into a tree haha 3:19 - 3:23
still rocking my 2013 nuke proof mega am....
That Ai hub spacing is the reason I’m not getting one. Basically impossible to find stock wheels
it is very easy to redish normal wheels to match AI
Also not technically necessary, I killed the rear wheel on my 2020 habit, bought a halo vortex and didn’t bother re-dishing it, never caused me any issues and don’t notice it
I’m currently running a hope Fortus 30 on my habit with no issues
Dude it’s 3mm, such an easy thing to dish
What's up with the surge of Forbidden clone designs?
The original Fast & Furious called asking for their paint back
Yes a bad a$$ paint job . Suspension design is pretty sweet too . I’m sure it’ll get its tweaks over the next couple years. This suspension design needs to move down to the trail bike sector . Tweak the kinematics for firmer climbing and poppy-ness with some plow through for the square edged stuff . What every design has tried to do forever anyway right . Then make her light too .
Peace Y’all
..another Forbidden Druid design?
Cannondale, spent-too-much on the e-bike range. One reason their rigs are unaffordable(that includes the Trek range, as well). Now that Cannondale has been bought-out, maybe they'll have more down-to-earth prices. Doubtful. Certainly the brand is not gonna have many models to choose from. Rocky Mountain & Cube bikes, definitely stole Cannondale's glory.
I love the color paint, yet the rest not at all
That shock in the frame is no bueno.
Hey folks….I’m just here to remind you to shop for bikes work buying. 🙃. Surely you don’t want to spend this kind of money then have to tell people, “It’s a Cannondale”.
no no MTB industry you don't. 'Balfa BB7', we had this tech from back in 1999
Without the great shocks
Shocks were often better, being decent oil/ coil not air (heavy thou)
How the hell do you clean such a bike from mud?
Bucket of soapy water and a brush
@@RobBlazoff impossible to clean inside thick mud
That's neat, but... Cannondale has proprietary standards/ parts on their bikes, so that'll be a no from me.
the new linkage looks like an excuse to charge money for the frame
So does it needs a special rear wheel? That's wack. Other than that it's awesome. There needs to be a cheaper alloy version.
why would it need a special rear wheel? it doesnt ..i got mine 2 days ago
@@paul4292 7:30 Did you buy a complete bike or just a frameset?
@@paul4292 I think he just means the AI offset. I'm replacing those terrible WTB rims with some EX 1700 on mine and the rear one needs redishing 6mm to the right.
Sorry..... how is that a high pivot suspension design?
Beware: Read Cannondale’s fine print in their Limited Warranty Policy. They may use it against you for their best interest. My $5000.000 carbon fiber frame Jekyll broke after six years of use. Cannondale never made a finding that it was due to use or abuse. A hairline crack formed at a weak point in the frame. The bike was sold to me with a lifetime warranty on the frame. The best offer Cannondale gave me, under their lifetime warranty, was 20% off of retail - yes, that's right 20% off of retail. I fought them on it over a two month period and lost. So, I am now stuck with a 34lb paperweight. Cannondale has what I feel is the worse warranty in the bike business. If you do purchase a Cannondale bike and something goes wrong, know that they probably will not work with you at any level in your best interest. In my opinion, Cannondale does not value you as a customer, they only value your money. This has been my experience.
In contrast my Jekyll had a crack in the swing arm after two-three years, and they replaced it with a whole new frame within about six or seven weeks. I think intermediaries between companies and customers sometimes do not best represent the companies approach to life. I've had nothing but good experience with replacements from Cannondale and Giant, but I've certainly had local importers try and do some dodgy stuff.
@@fredford3832 I think you may be right, to some degree. The local bike shop I purchased my bike at (in San Luis Obispo, CA) stop carrying Cannondale bikes; therefore Cannondale may have decided to not support that bike shop's customers. To me that is wrong. When I bought the bike, I became a Cannondale customer. But to Cannondale, I was a potential red mark in their company ledger - so they decided not to support me through their Lifetime Warranty. I would have been happy to pay them wholesale for a replacement bike after six years of riding the Jekyll - but they wanted more money, almost full retail.
God awful when mud and dust gathering on that bike
Sounds underwhelming. I think I’m still happy with the 2018 Jekyll in the stable.
no one break his brain of doing something new in front, because nothing, but rear supsension, yeah, there is the room for fantasy. But fantasy from engineering or from marketologist? 😄🤣
iTS Not A rEal CanNoNdaLe It HasNt gOt A Lefty
no such things as pedal kickback when your not on a fixie....
why do you have background music man? It's repetitive, and annoying as hell. I am not a dance fan. Feels like your giving us a lowdown across from the waltzers! Outside of this, great review!
i agree that hr music is annoying. What is/are "the waltzers"?
@@gatoryak7332 haha its a reference to the music played at pop up carnivals, they used to come to towns all over Scotland in the summer. The waltzers are a ride from said carnivals. They would often play dance music as you spun around on the ride, very loudly.
@@christopherwatson1163 I wish I hadn't asked because now I have that loud, repetitive, awful carnival ride music stuck in my head. I wonder if carnies play the same music in the USA as they do in Scotland.
That frame is as ugly as sin, and that shock placement with the bash guard is probably the worst to clean. Also cannondale not continuing the rear axle path after 100 m of travel completely defeats the purpose of a high pivot. The forbidden or the norco would be the clear choice for the high pivot bikes.
the frame isn’t too bad but you’re right about the shock placement and bash guard
Why does everyone loves 29er so much? It’s like a clown bike. I missed the 26”
Canondale need to improve that shock leyout. Looks ugly and unpractical.
It’s made by giant and is sold by the same company that owns Schwinn and mongoose. I’m not impressed. #crackenfail
Haha, seldom laughed like that. Weren't you the dud who voted Canyon Torque 2018 Enduro Bike of the Year? A bike that is falling apart in the showroom, the biggest junk I've ever owned. Better take a pottery class before giving advice, you non-expert. By the way, you can save all your gibberish by going straight to their homepage, because you presented nothing other than their advertising here, and something like that would like to be called a journalist, to be ashamed of you.
Glad you had a laugh! Yep, I did really like the Torque. It's tough when it comes to commenting on durability (which is why we generally don't) as we only have those bikes to test for a few months, so knowing how it holds up after a year or so of riding is tricky. And yep, this is a news story with first ride impressions of the bike, so I'm just attempting to explain the bike rather than give opinion on it. I'll have a full review coming on it though.
@@robweaver5849 Thank you very much for your apology, at least you have balls in your pants and face communication. I'm looking forward to your long-term test of Canyon Torque with the reference to the many, many CZcams videos of customers who find this junk falling apart while driving. But you are only allowed to bring advertising, otherwise you will no longer receive invitations to bike presentations in the Canary Islands. When I'm sitting at home with a € 5,000 junk because the service from Canyon is just as miserable as everything from those from Koblenz, then you conclude fat advertising contracts. Jump over your shadow and tell your followers what kind of rubbish "Made in Germany" really is. See Berlin airport, or VW Diesel, or... At least Canyon
Why is everybody choosing the ugliest color?
Gravity Cavity = totally stupid design fail
