Moments before President Obama was due to arrive at University of Illinois Chicago Forum for a fundraiser, Squad 2 and Snorkel 2A take a run down Roosevelt Road.
To amplify a bit on what firebuff3 said, Chicago does have a specialized rig for technical rescue and one for tunnel rescue and a couple for collapse rescue, but those are only dispatched for major incidents. Most of the "routine" technical rescue work is done by the squads (that's what the box truck half of the set carries equipment for)...when they're not acting as a truck/water tower at fires. The half that isn't being actively used becomes manpower assist for the other half, which is why they are always dispatched as a two-rig unit.
anyone notice the compartment open on the snorkel?
Same! You would think that they would have been outfitted with a switch system that would tell the driver a compartment is open, but I guess that maybe, this truck is too old to equip that.
I saw it maybe they just kept it closed cause they just had to rush out of engine 91's house
would really suck if they made a sharp left turn and everything came flying out

I’m from Chicago squad 2 is from the northwest side but that looked like downtown so damn there’s no closer squads .
Good eye. As I remember, this was during a special event in the summer, maybe even Obama in town, so there was a lot of staging and covering going on.

Wow this comment is 8 years old and I tell you the squad doesn’t do anything 🤣 lol but if you haven’t figured it out by now the Squad company is the Special Operations units for CFD pretty much a split Heavy Rescue company.
