Thanks for the vids Tal! Waianae area is an underserved community with the largest concentration of Native Hawaiians per capita in the entire world. Thanks for not judging the area and searching the true spirit of that place yourself.
They may not have a lot, but many of them still have genuine Aloha. Take care.

More than everything else that one gets to see in such vlogs, personally I rate Tal's slick express delivery most unique and chillingly affable. In so, if you havent realised, he covers a truckload more in valuable "content" than anyone I know! And this sort of lightning thoughts-to- words determination, comes only at veteran levels ?! And Tal at sub 25 has only started ! Im glad at the time I spend on his bits ! (PS - Clatt.. strange that one tho..Google to see wht it means in the urban sense !)

In Hawaii, we refer to the balcony as a lanai (rhymes with " the eye " ) When I lived in Honolulu, we never went to Waianae, as we had no ohana ( family ) there.

Everybody that saying bad stuff about waianae has never really stayed here. Idk what is everyone afraid of the most scariest part of waianae is traffic and that's it. If anyone wants to visit just plz remember clean up after yourself dont point your finger and say "well they not." Respect the land respect the people, if you dont involve yourself with other people no one will bother you, if someone is pushing themselves on to you and your not liking it or it's not a good situation try and remove yourself. Simple rules that your parents should have taught all of you.

I just read that Hawaii, particularly Oahu is cracking down on airbnb's. They estimate there are over 10000 short term rentals. (Any rental less than 6 months). They are going to give permits out for 1700. Oh and all hotels and resorts are immune to these laws. 🤔 We just stayed hau'ula and it was amazing. They are only going allow 23 rentals on the windward side. 0 on the north side. That's right... 0 rentals. If you've been to Oahu youI'm talking about the very charming North shore and Windward sides that are also known as the country. it really sounds like the hotels are having a hard time competing with people who want to stay in the countryside and not be in the city and have to deal with traffic and all of that that comes with staying in the city. The country is so much more chill there is far less traffic the beaches are less congested and there are many many more mom and pop style businesses. There's a map available online that shows what different locations of the island get a dedicated number of rentals and the majority of the rentals are all right around Honolulu and Waikiki Beach which is tourist central. The beaches are all uncomfortably packed. The traffic is insane. And you get very few of those really cool mom and pop style places. I spoke to our Airbnb host while I was there and she told me that this new law is going to crush them they may even be forced to move out of Hawaii entirely. They are facing something like $1,000 fine per day if they operate without a license. and they would be located on the windward side where there are only going to be 23 licenses granted and from my understanding those licenses are already eaten up by people who are in the pockets of the city council and the mayor. it sounds like there are many corrupt individuals that are making the decisions and the hotels have them in their pocket. she said poverty level income is around 60k on Oahu and that's barely making it that means you only pay your bills you never go out to eat you never go out to do anything as far as entertainment nothing you just work and when you get off work you just stay at home. she said if you have a family honestly you need to make about a 100k to the comfortably and still be able to go out to eat every once in a while. On our plane ride home we met a guy who has lived on the island his whole life and all he talked about was how expensive it is and how hard it is to make ends meet that literally everyone he knows who lives on the island and has lived on the island their whole lives has to work two jobs to support themselves. He works a regular full-time job that often flies him into 48 lower states to do work. he then flies back to Hawaii where he works most of the time he has his own side business that is wedding photography. and he said even though he works an incredible amount of hours every day that he barely makes it every month he said it's 800 square foot apartment cost him over $300,000. As tourists I think we need to stand up and be heard. and let the people who run Oahu no that we don't just want to stay in the city almost every tourist I talk to wanted to venture out into the country or was already staying in the country somewhere and in the next few months it sounds like you won't be able to stay in the country almost at all. under this new law they are going to force you to stay in overpriced hotels in the city that don't offer very many amenities and anytime you want to venture out to anywhere on the North shore or the Windward side you will have to drive minimum of an hour. also this will deeply impact all of the small business owners on the windward and the North shore. Right now many tourists have easy access to their businesses such as restaurants, craft makers, food trucks, and many other businesses. But soon that's going to go away. You'll be forced to stay in a hotel that's far from the very charming town of Haleiwa. Haleiwa is home to many small businesses that have been in the area for years. it's a small town where you park and walk up and down the main strip and can visit many of their clothing food and art stores. They have many many awesome places to eat as well as some of the best shave ice on the island. if you have ever been to this place or ever want to in the future I would encourage you to go online and contact the mayor or the chamber of commerce and voice your opinion about their new law. I also encourage you to seek out information on the law so that you can better understand it.
