Unfortunately our 4430 (1973) was a lemon. Couldn't keep a clutch in it and when we went to once over planter the lift never worked properly. Engine never a problem just transmission and lift issues. Had 1963 4020&3020 both with power shift great tractors

I have a friend that says 4430s were the worst. They had one growing up that stayed in the shop, never worked right, and reportedly “broke the farm.” My grandpa bought our new and it’s been in continuous service every since.

You did not show making sure the engine was on TDC # 1 cylinder before pulling the pump! By removing the flywheel window next to pump, and aligning point with TDC mark on flywheel and timing mark in window of pump also align.... Pump can be re installed out of time # 6 TDC, To solve that issue requires removing Valve cover and putting # 1 valves in seated position with flyweel on TDC..... The injector pump is riven off oil pump which is driven off gear on camshaft...... Anytime any work is done on the Bottom of the engine......... the oil pump has to be re-timed..... I worked for Deere in the 80s,

Brings back some good memories. When I think of combines I think of Phil redding ...eating one cigarette after another!!!... is early tractor company now sun south??
In 2000 I purchased a 4020 same year as yours. And use it to keep my property mowed. The only thing I've ever done to it was change the oil and add fuel its the backbone of my weekends

Yes, the Sunsouth conglomeration now encompasses Early Tractor.
That is an excellent job for a 4020.

Albany? In my neck of the woods. If you went to the John Deere shop on 82 you were right down the road from my house

There’s an injector pump place downtown on Roosevelt that we use.

I agree that the 4020 is an awesome piece of engineering greatness. I concur on the 44 but a 4440. The 40 series seemed to have better hydraulic system. The 4960 was definitely a beast in it's day. I personally have a fondness for 4520's and 6030's. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us.

I'd rather work on a tractor than an automobile any day.
