"It's a straight beat, but I man wanna do something different, yanno?" then the drop and he do something different. And had a blast doing it.
The beauty of this is that it shows the true ability of the drums- keeping rhythm- and just how difficult it can be. Moreso in the world of jazz where solos can go to all sorts of extremes, it falls to the drums to hold a steady beat all the way through. It would be extremely difficult to process a rhythm for this song without the drums, 8bitdrummer really is a master of his craft
As an aspiring musician, the most impressive part isn’t the keeping rhythm. The song has an even best in the background that makes it somewhat easy to follow. What makes it so good is how many little flairs he throws in to follow the vibe of the song, when he’s hearing this for the first time! Being able to correctly interpret the dynamics and match that with his own playing is the mark of a pro.

It’s impossible to do anything other than the basic 4/4 because the sequences on top are speeding up and slowing down continually. It’s not one steady polyrhythm, it’s cycling through every polyrhythm.
Man this Virtual Riot is good, he should make a music career out of dubstep or something.
Virtual Riot is actually insanely good at finding concepts like this and turning them into absolute bangers. For example, there's another video on his channel called "death by amen" where he makes a full song using an amen break. Another example being when he collabed with Andrew Huang for one of his 4 producers 1 sample video and turned a short piano piece into a full complextro song ("Everything here except the drums uses the sample" is what he said). He's got a lot of technical knowledge and it shows.
for 4 producer 1 sample, i would give it to au5. he made everything from one sample, including the drum. man really good at sound design

How do you get pattern changes 100% accurate? Is there a delay so you can hear ahead before playing @ the stream's delay time?
When you play music for a while you start to pick up where music changes happen and where phrases will end, I'm not sure what you are thinking with the delay but that sounds extremely difficult to do, best analogy i could think of is reading 2 books at the same time, itll get very scrambled
@@ImprovSpeech Yeah, I know (pianist + music theory student of 8 years) but sometimes he gets OUT OF THE BLUE break changes and a sudden buzz roll or random double time
Yeah I also thought about the delay but if he had like a perfect measure or one beat delay it could be possible- also the reactions he gets on a sudden change happen before he actually drums the pattern
@@GXboy12345 yeah not sure about that, Ive definitely seen a few songs where he does get caught out by the changes though so it might just be previous familiarity with the song/genre or he's just better lol
