One of the most common questions asked is whether someone needs to take supplements in order to build muscle and see results. It is a good question and one that has two completely different answers depending on the person asking it. In this video, I explain to you 5 reasons you need to take supplements and when you never should take them. If you can’t deal with brutal honesty however, I would advise you not to watch, as some feelings may be hurt.
To determine whether or not you are a candidate for supplementation you have to start with your experience level and current condition. If you are just starting out and are relegated to lifting 5 pound dumbbells for most of your exercises, you are likely not ready for supplements. You can gain far more benefits focusing on building up your strength and foundation while learning proper form and the best way to train than with stuffing your face with supplements.
The same can be said if you have allowed your diet and nutrition to put you grossly overweight. Supplements are not your savior. You first must figure out how to rededicate yourself to your nutrition so that you can lose enough weight to make supplements a viable part of the discussion once again to take you and your results to the next level.
Next you have to ask yourself if you are motivated enough to take supplements. Some people view supplementation as a way to be lax with the rest of their fitness and nutrition plan. They figure that as long as they are taking the supplements that they don’t have to worry much about everything else. Couldn’t be further from the truth. On the other hand, sometimes the act of supplementing makes you much more accountable for the rest of your actions. In this case, it can be a great advantage to helping you stay on track.
If stress is a big part of your life, be it from your work or family, supplements can become even more necessary to help keep you on track and combat that. We all know that proper nutrition and fueling can go a long way towards helping your body fight fatigue and breakdown. If stress is heavy in your life then you would particularly want to look into supplements to help keep you healthy and consistent with your nutrition in the face of schedule disruption.
Finally, ask yourself if you think that you can get all the benefits of supplements from food alone. If you think so, I can tell you in most cases you are wrong. For instance, there is simply no practical way to get as much creatine as you would need to experience its benefits from food alone. I said practical. Sure, you may be able to do it in theory, but when you consider the roadblocks that I present to you in the video you quickly realize this won’t work.
For a complete supplement and nutrition line that is tested and trusted by today’s top professional athletes, be sure to head to athleanx.com/at... and get your Rx Supplement bundle. Feel what a difference supplementation can make and see first hand how it can take your results to the next level.

    • Creatine is good.
    • Protein powder is just food.
    • Multivitamin probably isn't completely necessary if you're eating enough, but it also covers your bases just in case (b vitamins, vitamin d, and certain minerals). Most multivitamins have plenty of vitamin D, which is good if you don't get a lot of sun. If yours doesn't have vitamin d, it's a really cheap stand-alone.
    • Amino acid supplements and BCAAs are expensively pointless, just eat more.
    • Fish oil are a great idea if you aren't eating fish often.
    • Pre-workouts are caffeine with niacin, arginine, beta alanine, citrulline malate, and b vitamins. Don't rely on them for every workout, and even for heavy workouts
    I'd recommend avoiding them.
    • Joint supplements are just glucosamine and biotin. If you have joint problems or pain, just get those 2 things separately; they're cheap as hell.
    • Post-workouts are garbage, just eat something or make another protein shake.
    • Glutamine is pointless, unless you're vegetarian or don't consume dairy.
    • Lysine is good for cold sores, but that's about it.
    • Mass gainers are just maltodextrin and protein powder. If you absolutely don't want to eat your carbs, feel free to drink them with mass gainers.
    • Testosterone boosters are all, without exception, bullshit.
    • ZMA is zinc, magnesium, and B6. Generally you don't need to take a separate ZMA pill because you're getting these through a multivitamin, but if you're eating less to lose weight and don't have a vitamin with enough Z and A, a ZMA capsule could help with recovery and sleep.
    • Sleep aids are melatonin and valerian root, both of which are dirt cheap and can be purchased separately.
    • Weight-loss pills are usually caffeine, green tea (caffeine), green coffee bean (caffeine), and a fibre to suppress appetite. Any claims about metabolism boosting is bullshit. Just eat veggies and take a caffeine pill to replicate 99% of weight-loss pills.

+Semper Fidelis totally agree..Lets just suppose that, that tuna had like 5 grams of creatine in it and
you could eat one tuna for some months daily..Now lets say you are
taking creatine powder for some months daily..What happens in the end,
is that if you stopped eating the tuna(natural creatine) after some
months your muscles wouldnt have the chemical creatine's powder negative
feedbacks, like losing power and mass...Everyone that takes creatine
knows that if you stop taking it you lose things...Thats why you CANT
compare natural food to chemically supplements..Period!

When I first started working out last year, I was a 20yr old 5'7" that weighed 52kg. I was well below the average despite my heavy eating and I've been like that my whole life. I'm not lanky, or super skinny, just really lean. I've never really had much of a fat content despite lack of exercise and unhealthy eating so I could easily gauge my progress on the weighing scale as every increase would be muscle, never shedding fat. I bought 500g creatine and 2.5kg whey protein powder when I first started working out, along with tweaks in my diet which is also super important. Within the first two weeks I had packed on an extra 5kg, and a month later I was 61kg. After around 3-4 months of training I had gone from 52kg to 63kg, I was getting and feeling pretty ripped. Creatine and other supplementation may not work for everybody, but it can help to speed up the process, especially if you're like me and struggle with packing on the pounds, instead of shedding it. I still have a tiny 28" waist but I feel a huge sense of achievement every time I see my weight go up on the scales. Training does take time, it takes a lot of motivation because you won't always feel like working out, so it's really important to find a good reason for YOU to train. It can be gaining or losing weight, but nothing makes a target more achievable than specifics. It's easy to plan when you have a specific goal in mind, mine is to eventually reach 85kg on the scales. It'll take a lot of hard work, but I'm enjoying the journey in feeling and looking great, and that's all that matters in the end, right?

As someone that have had a to spend a lot of time in relations to hospitals and what not. Most hospitals (that are big and professional) will have a normal light menu that rotates from week to week. It's not unhealthy, but it not your protein heavy food either. That's for most people.
But they will have a separate menu for ill and old people that need more fat and calories from their food, because they don't eat a lot for example. There might also be a few dishes with a protein heavy items, but it's not available to everybody in the hospital.

    • @rickmyers3716
      @rickmyers3716 Před 7 lety +7

Yes I always found that to be pretty inexcusable. Not unexpected though, given the role a hospital plays, economically, and maybe not wrong--from a capitalistic point of view (accept that no option of any alternative is available).
I try to think of hospitals as... very exclusive and expensive hotels. This may sound silly but it fits after a bit of thought; the Doctors' and staff's expertise is the amenity for why that particular "hotel" is chosen over any alternative: they are the reason patients show up and stay, and like any business, and a hospital IS a business, they have a business model complete with financial goals, cost mitigations, a budget, and (fault lies with just the healthcare industry as a whole here I feel) every opportunity for gouging is exploited, no surprise there. (Where, in the case of the food, no hospital is "charging" for meals as a restaurant would, so with no separate, astronomically expensive allocation on the bill for meals from which they can profit, they'll mitigate the cost of those meals by serving crap meeting their criteria for cheap, safe, approved, and availible --easy to prepare --easy to serve --easy to consistently monitor [such as for patients whose intake must be very precisely controlled] --and easy/cheap to store with a high shelf-life-to-cost ratio...)..
Things should be different, I agree.

Thanks for the video (great info)- How Creatine Works......If you’re not familiar with how creatine works here is a simple explanation. Andesine Triphosphate (ATP) fuels all muscle contraction, which is stored in the muscle cell. There is enough stored ATP in the muscle cell for about 5 to 7 seconds of intense exertion. After that the body has to use a different energy system so it takes Creatin-Phosphate (CP), which is also stored in the muscle and mixes it with Anderson Diphosphate (ADP) to make ATP. Creatine gives ADP the third phosphate molecule to make ATP.

I just had an 8 month kidney scare that I had to go through. It ended this past Friday when I saw the nephrologist. She told me that my kidney function had gone down to 44% when I had my initial blood tests 8 months ago. I stopped taking the stuff after they told me that I had elevated kidney function (meaning my kidneys were so weak that they were having to work harder to do their job). Fast forward to now and my kidney function is back to 100% since I haven't touched creatine. Never going to use creatine again. Although if anyone here uses it, I'd recommend having routine bloodwork done to monitor your kidneys.

Congrats on your twins ^_^. Our twins are almost 4 and were also premies, after we left the hospital we became part of a free program in our area that would visit us at home to help us make sure they were always on track with their development. If you haven't already, you might want to find out if you guys have this option too, now our kids are well ahead of their age thanks to these services. Thank you for all your videos and dedication to helping others. Take care!

  • @felixberezhnoy
    @felixberezhnoy Před 6 lety

One option for obtaining glucosamine: bone broths. It might be cheaper then buying glucosamine because you can use the chicken/beef bones from your meal scraps/left overs to create the broth. Plus, bone broths have a lot more that is good for you that is seldom considered in our fast food/pill popping generation.
