Ah yes Plasma Glow, the RGB lights of mini painting.
😂😂😂
@theend Careful, dont give Corsair any ideas!!!!!
It's actually the NMM of miniature painting.... Oh wait we already have that.
Nice
Request for birds?
Do you mean BFG from "Doom"?
I never realized until I saw your videos just how much it ground my gears that people highlighted the TOP of the plasma lines, rather than shading them. It makes so much more sense visually this way around.
It really does
Absolutely love the red plasma look, my favorite of all these by far~
Thanks
One of the most underrated tutorials out there. Always use this method when it comes to plasma 👌
Thanks mate 😘
Underrated by whom? Seems pretty well received to me.
Always love your blend of inspirational painting and spot on humour mate
Thanks 😘
I have been asking around for a good yellow plasma, and when I saw it on the thumbnail, I knew that's what I was looking for!
Happy to help

This is making me want to re-paint all my plasma.
Give it a try!
Im trying the red one using yellow for that fiery effect you mentioned and it looks amazing, thank you very much!! 🦎🔥
I have been looking for a purple plasma glow tutorial for months and this is perfect. Great, work and keep these videos coming.
Thanks 😘
Absolutely great video/ tutorial! Great idea to show colors for each mix. TY
Happy to help 😘
Thanks so much for this video, helped me nail down a plasma color, going to be using the Cold Green for my Dark Krakens.
Awesome!!
Amazing! This is so ridiculously useful, can’t wait to steal all of these
Awesome!
Great tutorial Juan. This will really help me, AND you already answered my two questions at the end. Glad I watched the whole thing!
The end is always the best bit
A friend recommended your plasma tutorial to me, and it really is incredible! The cold green coils are definitely going on my Word Bearers
Thanks mate
Fantastic, I've been dying to try glow effect, you have now made it straightforward, thank you
Happy to help
Thank you so much for such an awesome video!! Its great to have so many different combinations!
Happy to help 😘
The yellow in my white was what I needed for my green plasma!
The thumbnail for this video is PERFECT!! Love your work my man!
Thanks 😘
Just saw this. Can't wait to try it soon. Thank you for showing how to do it easier.
Happy to help 😘
This is really helpful :D Thanks! I need to try that purple plasma with my Alpha Legion.
Happy to help 😘
This is a great glow effect, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching 😘
Great video! this really helped, much appreciated.
Happy to help!
Thank you for sharing these tips, thanks to this technique, plasma cannons are easily made and have a great effect! Thank you!
Happy to help
This is really helpful. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks for watching 😘
It's simple enough to do for the average painter and it looks really good. Very good video 👍
Thanks 😘
Juan you are the best, this is amazing!
Thanks 😘
that warm purple, cold green and orange are excellent color combinations :D
Thanks
Amazing video and tutorial mate thank you I really think I can do that! Thanks so much or teaching us
Happy to help!!
YOU CAN DO IT!
That red is lovely. I'm going to have to use it for the few plasma Pistols I have in my Sisters army. But I think I might make it the flaming red you were talking about.
my tyranid brains are gonna look so sick, thx man!
Happy to help!
As I said in the previous video, amazing technique and tutorial. I'll have to buy white oil paint after seeing this. Keep the good stuff going Juan!
Gracias guapo 😘
Thats what we need on a Monday afternoon, a nice slice of Juan!
Only the juiciest bits
Thanks for this tutorial I try this tomorrow! 👌🏻🙏🏻
Awesome
Another great video
Thanks
Thank you , Juan .
🐺
😘
Love the old plasma marine meme in the background. I always meant to build one of my own, but never got around to it.
It's so funny
Interesting how plasma is basically the reverse of what is usually done - Dark to light colours, while here it is Light to dark. I guess thats how it would be with molten metal or magma effects
Yes, to me it's what makes the most sense
Always an awesome tutorial i'll show this yo My newphew who is new to painting tbx man
VIEWS FOR THE VIEWS GOD
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Thanks
Muy buena juan!!🔥🔥
Gracias
Learning and laughing :-) your videos are really great!
Thanks mate
I like that the white Nowhere brush basically sold out everywhere :D
Lol, happy to help getting the knowledge of a great product out!
Also any oil paint will work
Amazing! I plan on doing my admech using this technique but using the blue colors laid out in your older video!
Do you think this effect could also be used for the admech eyes / lens glows?
Maybe a tad too small I'm afraid
Love the picture on your shelf, "plasma weapons... totally worth it".
Seems appropriate 🤣🤣
That frame is the best purchase I've ever made
That was a great answer to the final question, Mr. Burn- I mean, Mr. Hidalgo
😂😂😂
Gracias por el video!
A ti guapetón 😘
Juan ur Amazing! brother thank you 😊 🙏
Thanks 😘
Looks amazing! what colors do you advise for the blue coils?
The video is linked in the description
I loved the unexpected Simpsons reference at the end - I literally LOLed!
Also I guess your plasma tute is kinda good too. Seriously though, I'll use this as my method.
Thanks
Thank you for this applying this technique to my chaos knights
YES
im very impressed, how would you go about with the ork mek with shokk attack gun?
if i want to change the red to an orange glow what paint swaps would you recommend? would you stick with the red tile and white blend?
Amazing video! 🎉
What synthetic brush do you like to use for the oil step? I’m trying to buy some new ones but am not sure what to get
Whatever one I have next to me, it doesn't matter
It might be nice to see this on something that's not a standard coil shape. Or to see how you'd make a take on gems/cockpits (since your plasma method is in a different order than commonly done).
This won't work for gems as you need the brightest point to be in the center of the gem and the oil wash can't do that
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I think it would be great for Tyranid Bio-Weapons tho! I’d try that
You gave me food for thought, I'm going to count how many blue types of paint I have..... Maybe it's worth stocking up... ;)
😂😂😂
Wow !
The ammo white goes up the fiches instead of flowing into the recesses !
Very weird. I'm going to try this.
Thank you !
If you don't overload the brush it won't go everywhere, need to be careful
I love this video, bit I'm struggling trying to do this with orange. Do you have any tips or suggested paints to use?
Orange is not the best colour to Drybrush with, I would just do the red one but don't go as red at the end
For the red coils can i just use lugganath oil instead of the red tile oil/white oil?
Sorry to be a pain but could you recommend the formula for orange glow? The red looks close to what I want, but wander how you would tackle more of an orange?
The Simpsons reference had my rolling, well played sir, well played!
Thanks
Great job! What dry brushes do you use?
Rosemary and Co Model Dry Brush
The red plasma is just what I needed to fix my failed orange attempts. Only problem is that casings on my guns are red since they are dark angels...
EDIT: I just tried and worked even in the more shalow details of older models. Used regular oil paints intead of mig
Then I suggest you don't do orange because it's going to be too similar. There's a reason the EM team chose blue for them
Love this - I'm on a mission to create an orc who's got vibrant glowing tattoos on his chest/arms due to a magic infusion. How can I sell the effect and make it really pop at a table?
Not like this. That's way more complex and requires careful glazing
Juan, which Rosemary brush did you use for the drybrushing please?
Model Dry Brush, the smallest one
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Thankyou!
That box of hellblasters finally came good 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
Love you for listening! #Lone
😘
Ah. The MVP is back with some painting hacks! Thank you.
Happy to help 😘
Nice! 👍 Please keep on with content like this!
Thanks
What do you have against blue?
This is fantastic! I'm definitely going to be using this for a couple of my projects.
Could this technique be adapted to paint flames as well? Also, in what way does thinned white paint make things more difficult than white oils?
Yes, this would work for fire. The other question is answered in the video, at the end
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Thanks! I did catch that bit at the end, but I was just wondering if there were particular pitfalls to look out for if using acrylics instead of oils. Unless it's just a case of needing to build-up layers?
It's a matter of not being able to clean up or blend your white wash after it dryes
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I see. Thanks for the tip!
Bureaucrat here. Blue paint is amazing. Buy more of it!
Lol
Ah, had a mishap with the hobby knife ? RIP the finger 😂
And I thought your last video was your best how to paint glow effect video
😘
"Le sigh..." I just wrapped up painting som primaris and one had a plasma.... And then I watched this video... (goes back to the painting table)
Lol
Juan, barnizas antes de aplicar los oleos??
Contesto eso al final del vídeo. No
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures El inglés no es mi fuerte jajajaja, lo siento. Tiro del traductor de subtitulos del youtube
Pues no, no te hace falta
Quite possibly the best opening scene i've seen in a good while 🤣
Watch the previous three videos, I've been killing it lately
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Catching up on my playlist is actually on my painting to-do, so I certainly shall be! Keep it up, genuinely had me choking on my coffee in tears. Still giggling.
My favourite so far is the Slapchop Cadian Infantry video. I'm very proud of that one
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures It appears i'm about to embark on a journey 😂 Look forward to it!
Is it best to base the plasma area in white first before applying the colours or just from the black primer?
White is best
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Thanks man appreciate the tutorial 👌
Do you think I could adapt this for varanguard and warriors of chaos runes?
Yes, if they are recessed
You avoided to use pure white oil to finish when painting green and red plasma, what is the factor that depends on for using pure white or not?
It's all about saturation, white can desaturate the color too much and red and bright green are specially sensible to that
I came for the plasma tutorial, and the kicker was the simpsons reference.
😂
Thanks
Mr Burns, what did you think of JH newest video? Burns: Excellent.
😂😂
Juan, how do you keep your drybrushing layers from lifting the previous one off the coils? I find my own drybrushing tends to end up too dry and grainy, or just clinging to the previous layer and rubbing everything off down to the bare plastic or primer... I've noticed it on plasma coils especially for some reason. Am I just too impatient?
Also, I reckon White Ink from AK is a good alternative for the White Oil, from what I can surmise of the properties here, in case people are apprehensive about messing with oil or something.
First, you don't have to dry your Drybrush as much, there's a sweet spot to get. Second, paint needs to dry as any other paint
If your dry brushing is going down grainy or chalky, it usually means that your paint, counterintuitively, is too dry. The difference that a little bit of water can make is huge. And by a "little bit," I mean swiping your brush over a barely damp sponge a couple of times before diving into your paint. This will keep the resin in your acrylic paints from setting up in the bristles.
As for pulling up previous layers, that's indicative of two possibilities: the hydration issue, previously mentioned, or a brush/technique issue. If you're stuck with the brushes you have, ease up on the pressure, and make sure your brush is properly cleaned and conditioned. Brush soap is a game changer, and will go a very long way to keeping your tools in good shape. If you have the option to expand your tool set, then buy a few softer brushes. Different stiffnesses behave differently, so playing around to find what works for you is advisable. Even if a brush doesn't give you the outcome you want, in the moment, it might have applications for desired behaviors for other things on future projects.
Best of luck to you in getting the results you're going after!
Fantastic response
your brush might be to stiff dude
Will air brush thinner work for the oil paints?
No
So any white spirit thinner will work?
Yes, white spirits will work
*The sudden urge to redo every plasma gun in my entire army*
😂😂
10/10
Thanks 😘
I love this channel :DD
Thanks 😘
the yellow + white mix around 2:50 looks like ice yellow from AV...
It does because Ice Yellow and Dorn Yellow are exactly the same colour
I have a question, shouldn't you be able to achieve the same effect with inks instead of oils? It wipes off with water instead of thinner, and you don't have to stink up the room with oil paints, right?
Lol, right when I wrote it, the faq section came up. As an excuse, I don't know if inks are acrylics. And the question is if they work similarly, giving an equivalent outcome. Don't know, sorry.
Oil paints don't stink, that's why you use Odorless Thinner.
Apart from that I answer that question at the end of the video in the FAQ section
Inks are of two varieties generally speaking, alcohol based (which we don't use) and acrylic based.
The thing is I can blend or clean up oils, so much easier, once the ink dries in 30-40 seconds max that's it, it's there forever, while oils lets me adjust and clean up with no problems
It can be done with acrylics but as I say there, this is about creating the SIMPLEST and EASIEST way of doing this.
Next stop: Rainbow Plasma!
YEAH
Taking this
It's all yours
Which drybrush do you use for this effect specifically? I tried the technique but I think my drybrush was too big. t I don't have any drybrushes this small. I had a really hard time getting the OSL around the edges of the plasma.
I highly recommend getting this set from Artify

@JuanHidalgoMiniatures wow thats really cheap. Are they durable?I was thinking of getting Artis Opus, but this is like 75% cheaper.
Thank you so much for the speedy reply. I have a bunch of plasma inspectors to paint. I appreciate you.
@Dr.PatrickC.Bailey these are the ones I've been using and are as good as the AO ones.
I'm extremely surprised at how good they are.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures thank you for your time and recommendation sir. Is that an affiliate link that you posted? If you have an affiliate link I will use it.
Cant tell if you thinn it down with water or something ?
Got got som ammo mig oilbrushers they are quite thick
I'm telling you in the video, of course they are thinned down using Odorless Thinner
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures any specific brand ? Or type ?
All odorless thinners are the same, you can use white spirits as well. I buy some generic one that comes in litre bottles
i cant believe JH made a simpsons reference, this video is a 10/10
Thanks 😘
Hello juan
😘
You skipped blue plasma! Perhaps the most common plasma color! How dare you!
Snrk. But yes, these are some great easy plasma tutorials. They're simple and look great. Probably will be how I do it from now on.
That's the first one I did
what kind of thinner am i supposed to use for the white oil or oil paints in general?
I say it in the video Odorless Thinner, that's the name of the product.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures ah my bad. i didn’t know if there were other odorless thinners for other paints too etc. do you think this would be good for tyranid brain glow? or do you think the inverse (glowing portruding bits) would be better?
@RickJagger13 I have a viewer who used this same video (purple) for his Tyranid brains and it looks amazing.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures ice yah i’m gonna give the green a go on mine 🙌🏼 thank you for taking the time out of your day to respond 🙏🏼
