Can you comment on what type of thinner you used? Close caption says "Animal thinner" does that mean enamel thinner for oil? I assume acrylic thinner wont work for the oil.
Odorless Thinners, that's the name of the Thinners, and yes they are oil or enamel thinners
Finally somebody who's painting the inner parts of the plasma "coil" brighter than the outer ones. Thank you !
That's how you do it!
ive always thought the core should be brighter and the outer coils are what cools it enough to keep it from exploding, same with volkite. noone else seemed to think so.
@@FenrirFrostborn most gamers has no grasp of thermodynamic physics 😆
been annoying the shit out of me for decades. The coil is the houseing the bright shit should be in the middle/inside! So this is deffo major good.
Ikr, it makes so much more sense this way! (I mean there is a slight explanation of you want to paint the outer ones brighter but its way more convoluted and raises more questions than it answers)
Commenters note: this method also works if you want to paint red plasma, green plasma, or whatever other color your plasma wants to be. Basecoat the midtone, drybrush dark, then wash with the highlight color.
100%
what is a good acrylic white wash ?
None, but if you are determined to use acrylics, buy a good quality artist white ink. Liquitex or Daler Rowney FW are my favourite ones
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures would thinned white paint work? The water would make it seep into the recesses.
But he basecoated the lightest, then dry brushed midtone, then drybrushed midtone before wash? Howd you mean basecoat the midtone?
I love this because you are painting coils in reverse of other tutorials. Others treat the top of the coils as the brightest part, whereas you treat it as the dullest part, with the bottom being the light source. It looks amazing.
Thanks
It makes sense tho, the coils are supposed to be hotter on the inside, idk why others are painting it differently
@@alexthehopeless3778 the confusion is because the rule of thumb of miniature painting has always been using brighter colors on the outside to simulate highlights. However, as you stated, it doensn't make any sense and therefore doesn't work well with energy weapons and other heat effects (such as flames).
Best painting channel on youtube. The intro comedy, the accent, the friendly demeanor, the pure knowledge and accessibility. I rate Juan Hidalgo 11/10. Plus, I said hello to him on Facebook one time and he responded. It was like being waved at by a celebrity. I rate Juan Hildalgo 12/10
EDIT: The background music is soothing to the soul. I rate Juan Hildalgo 13/10
I rate your comment a 14/10
I’ve watched like 6 plasma tutorials trying to find something effective and simple. This was it! Thanks!
Happy to help
Man these last 3 videos have been absolutely incredible!
Thanks ☺️
This is by far the best plasma effect I've seen on CZcams, phenomenal work!

That is a satisfying 7mins 44 indeed. That final pop of white always feels so good.
Thanks ☺️
I was about to go to the grocery store. This takes priority.
Good choice
Amazing. Thanks for this tip!
Thanks for watching 😘
Very nice! Love this technique!
Thanks
This is going to change the game for some of my stuff, I've stripped an old model already because the plasma effect being bad ruined it, and even the redo I was only somewhat okay with. Maybe I can try the oil step on its own to brighten it up first, since the old metal infantry ones "ribs" are sooo shallow. Thanks very much!
Happy to help
Awesome guide. Muchos gracias amigo.
Thanks for watching 😘
Juan, muy buenos tips!! Muchas gracias! 😀😀😀👏
Gracias a ti guapetón 😘
I trust your advices because you lick your brushes. Only people who lick their brushes know how to paint.
It's true
That plasma looks great! More interesting to me is that OSL however. OSL is a technique that I've always shied away from, but this is looking very approachable and easy to do.
Also, I got those kind of brushes! They're awesome! I use the bigger ones to get tanks done very quickly.
Yeah they are great, fantastic tools
Great stuff sir!
Thanks

Thanks for the fantastic tutorial! Definitely one of the best plasma effects I've ever seen (and I've been seeing A LOT of them for many many years). I'll look into your channel now to see if I can find a tutorial on who to paint flames. Cheers!
Of course I have one! It's included into The Avatar video
Very good tutorial, very helpful, easy to follow with great results! Probably some of the best plasma I have every painted, really made the Plasma mortar on my Thanatar look amazing.

@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Perdona que diluyente usaste con el oilbrush de ammo?? no consiguo esa dilucion y el efecto no me queda igual gracias!!
Diluyente para oleo sin olor, uno genérico que pillo en botellas de litro.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures genial gracias!!!
This is a great vid Juan. I've been tempted to get a few Oilbrushers and white is now being added to my shopping list 👍😁.
Nice, they are fantastic
Awesome! You’re the man
I KNOW
nice work
Thanks
What an amazing result! This really inspire me.
I have one question about thinners for oils. I tried to look for answers but never got anything conclusive so I will ask here.
I use AK Streaking Grime which is an Enamel paint and so I already have the AK White Spirit. From what I understand brand really doesn't matter so I could use any enamel thinner on any enamel paint (correct me if I am wrong).
But my question is: Are enamel and oil thinners the same thing? (meaning they can be used interchangeably?) Or more specifically: Can I use my AK white spirit to thin Ammo Oilbrusher or do I have to get something else? (if that is the case what would you recommend?)
That was amazing.
Thanks
I really like this. I'll keep this in mind for the next plasma weapon I work on
Thanks
