Years ago, after my husband passed, the neighborhood kids drew me condolence cards. Evidently the neighbor's didn't pay attention to what their daughter drew on her card. It was a picture of my husband in a coffin, saying "I'm sorry X is ded". (he was cremated and she wasn't at the funeral) It was the BEST card I received! It made me laugh the first laugh after months of sadness!
I lost my husband last September, and I wish I’d gotten this card! Kid realness is the best.
When my mom’s partner died, a colleague of hers was so nervous ( what to say, how to react) that when he saw my mom, he came up to her just after the funeral, gathered his courage and said: “from the bottom of my heart I wish you happy holidays” my mom bursted out laughing and we still laugh years later thinking of that dreadful day.
Oh yes I understand! But also, how amazing are your neighbors!
@@lolly_golightly I'm sorry for your loss. The pain never goes away but it lessens day by day. Now onto my story! Let me preface this, I'm super, super tone-deaf. I make no qualms about it. LOL I volunteered at a sleepaway Christian church camp during the summer, a few months after my husband had died. The first night there, we were in Vespers and we were singing. The kid next to me was pitch-perfect, she sang beautifully! After the service ended, I stayed back to meditate and she stayed with me. We sat there a minute until this 14 y/o broke the silence and said "My God! You're TERRIBLE at singing..." At first, I was a bit taken aback and then I just left out this laugh. It's hard to explain, the condolence card was great, but there were times in between. I needed that laugh and she delivered! 18 years later, we're still in close contact. I was invited to her HS and college graduations, weddings, and funerals. She was my MOH at my wedding and I'm her new baby's godmother. Laughter through tears and good friends were my lifelines. (Kid ended up graduating uni w a master's degree in music)

When my dad was 5, a neighbour woman in her 40's year used to baby sit him. They were really good friends. My dad told her that she was so old now, she was gonna die soon, so he dug a grave in her backyard, and made it so that when she'd be buryed there, she could look over to his house. My dads 54 today, and that woman, who I've grown up calling Grandma, is now turning 102.😅
That's actually very sweet. I'm 42, and I believe I would take it in the spirit which it was meant.

My mom is totally like the 2nd gal’s mom. Once, I wanted to shock my mom by telling her I was getting a Brazilian butt lift (not really)… she stunned me with her pure honesty “Surgery on your butt? Why not fix your nose and chin instead?” She was dead serious.
Another time she was telling me to get a hair cut, put makeup on and change my wardrobe so I could find a guy. I said I wanted a guy that’d like me for who I am, not my looks. She responded with “well that’s not working so try something new.” Ouch.

Turning the urn into a ghost made me laugh and cry. It's something my Uncle would have appreciated done to his ashes. It was so acutely his kind of humor.
When he lost both his legs, he was ready for Halloween to come so he could dress as Leutenant Dan and his husband would be dressed as Dan's wife.
Thanks for letting me feel his spirit for a moment there. He was one of my favorite people in this world.
A guy I used to work with was going to meet his fiance's parents and saw he was a little "ashy." So he stopped at a drug store to get some moisturizer. He got to the parents house and they asked if he thought it was new years or something. He looked into the mirror next to the door and saw that he had apparently bought some lotion with glitter in it. He had glitter all over his face, neck and hands.

I have step kids. I cried the day I put on a dress, I never wear dresses, and my step son who had no idea I was gonna try on a dress, playing video games. Came took one look at me and said, mommy you look beautiful! I died at that moment, I love you EZ!!!!!!!
As a child I told my aunt that her ideals of happy wife, happy life was the reason her husband liked spending all his down time alone, because all she did was complain and be mean. After that she started being nicer and they started taking family vacations. I was so little too, like 7... I think I helped her tho, and as an adult I still kinda flinch at that back handed slap I gave her. Oops

My parents divorced when I was 3... then my mom just kept adopting children. So we have 15, 9 boys and 6 girls. My mothers forward thoughts are what taught us gender roles are trash, and people matter. All gender roles do, is keep us in boxes. I'm grateful for my strong, independent, bright mother. She is amazing.

When my kids were teens they thought I had no clue about the world, now my daughter has a 12 year old and she is beginning to “ feel” her hormones and my daughter texts me about the arguments they are starting to have now, this fixed my emotional damage, Karma is great !

When I was little my mom bought new clothes and asked me how she looked when she got home and tried them on. I said "You look like Grandma!" (Her mom) meaning it as a compliment and I thought she looked great. But my mom did not take it as a compliment and she got really upset. I still feel guilty for that to this day 🙃 And I was trying to tell my mom she looked great 🤦♀️

No. Her reactions are ignorant and parochial. The woman doesn't know what green corn is. I'd bet that was a Mexican or Mexican-style recipe,. Green corn tamales are luscious. Looks like a casserole based off of chicken enchiladas (just without the tortillas, maybe low-carb?). Maybe add some mild green chili strips.

My dad was an EMT (volunteer) and in his later life, a greeter for the local funeral home (he’d lived in the town his whole life and knew everyone and their dead grandma) so he had a pretty dark sense of humor. oh god, i didn't even think that some people don't know how to use film cameras because they aren't old af like me. that used to be the norm. whenever my mom got a new camera, it was exciting. The best part was when you accidentally did a double exposure. we had one where my cousin was wearing old timey clothes because we found our great grandma's old clothes, and it double exposured over a picture of my mom, and it looks like a ghost is taking over my mom.
Yeah, the woman right after the ghost costume over the urn? Man, that sounded exactly like what my mom would have said in that situation.

I split my chin open when I was in college…sledding accident…when I came home for spring break a couple months later, my mom noticed that the scar was still red, and kind of visible from the front and asked, “what are you going to do now?”
I understood her meaning because a year earlier, my sister…a sculpture student…was welding a piece together and a big hunk of slag fell on her boot, burned a hole through it, and ended up burning the top of her foot. This left a quarter sized scar. When my mom saw it, she said, “no man will want you now.”
My mom did not understand sarcasm, let alone use it. My sister called me, all upset, crying on the phone about what mom had said. I told her, “just wear socks on the first few dates instead of going barefoot like you did before.”
My response to my mom on her comment about my scar? “I guess I will have to give up on my effort to become a supermodel and just fall back on doing something with my degree.🤷🏻♀️” Mom was NOT amused but, I was.

I took photography classes from 2005-2008 in highschool where we had to use the older mechanical cameras and develop the film ourselves. There is something so satisfying about the click of the camera that I miss.

I definitely used a cheapo disposable film camera as a child. It was basically just point and shoot. We really are only pampered because we don't have to process the film.
I dated a dude my senior year in high school and my grandma lived with us (she had dementia). Anyway, she got to meet him when we went to prom and I did break up with him after graduation.
When she found out, she told me she didn’t want to say anything but he wasn’t a good looking guy and that I could have done better.

Growing up in the 80s we only knew point and shoot cameras, I guess loading film was a skill. Only in college did I learn about manual cameras and lenses, and I have forgotten nearly all of it.

It’s all good (first video) I have the ashes of my two beloved pups. They’re in decorative, wooden boxes. I “dress them up” for each holiday. At Easter I put a little stuffed dog with bunny ears on top of each box…one green and one blue. At Halloween I put a small Halloween decoration on each box…usually pick up new ones each year at the dollar store, and at Christmas they get ornaments with their names on top and I wrap their boxes like little gifts. 🎁
Right now they are wrapped in green felt with an autumn scene taking place on top of their boxes…with some tiny turkey figurines “running around” the set scene.
If I had an urn that contained the ashes of a family member, I’d definitely do the same thing. 💕🥰😃

I used disposable cameras on a cruise almost 15 years ago. I had about 7 of them. I got about 15-20 usable pictures out of them. The rest had my thumb in them.

Unfortunately covid is still keeping me in basic lockdown. So watching Charlotte keeps me sane. I've got a lot of immune issues and covid can put me in hospital or worse. So I've minimized doing anything for 3 years. I'm hoping next year is better fingers crossed. Also your own kids are savage even as teenagers.

One time I didn’t get any sleep the night before school, and in the car on the way to school I said “I’m gonna hate myself by lunch time” my 7 y/o cousin who my parents were watching because it was my aunt and uncles wedding anniversary, said “you were gonna hate yourself weather you got sleep or not” my mom literally had to pull over she was laughing so hard

I’m currently a film photography student. Another option that might’ve happened to the girl who brought her film camera on vacation, is that she might’ve sent the film through the x-ray machines at TSA because for some film types the x-rays can damage the film.

i had photographie classes in school, while it was not a requirment given from the idk how to call this in english but basically the people who set the national line of everything you need to learn, or everything your teacher needs to teach, my teacher found it important to teach us how to use a film camera because and this are his words you need to know everything it takes to make a good picture so you wont just click when you go digital but think about your light and setting ..etc
