    First of all like for the dog :-) This is the second time around he casually walked into your frame.
    Now, photographers had never a easy time, they where not always credited. just take a look at so many Hollywood commercial photography from 30's and 40's. Name one author of those photographs if you can. Just one.
    Yes I agree, that situation was still more or less managed back in the day. But since the introduction of the Internet ripping, stealing etc. took off at rocket speed. And that's the reason I'm not shearing my pictures anymore, for almost two decades. Because there's way too much thief out there.

    Photo Theft is why I do not upload high res images.. But yea better technology and false marketing are putting a hurt on professional photographers these days and its only going to get worse. This is another huge reason photographers need to diversify their skill set so they can keep standing out.

    Ownership is fast becoming an outdated concept. Take photos, print photos, put photos on your wall. If someone comes to steal your shit, beat them with a stick. It’s the only way.

    I'm not a pro but I did have one of my photos "stolen" off Flickr by one of the big travel sites for the photo they used of a particular country that I visited in their email ads, no big deal and kind of flattering but I could see if you were a professional why you would be pissed. I remember the first time I opened the email and I was like "hey, that's my photo".

    Sadly there is no simple solution to protecting your own images which is why I generally don't bother to watermark for example. It's fine to watermark for the sake of branding ( so a small unobtrusive logo in the bottom corner ) but if anybody thinks watermarking will stop anybody stealing images they are simply wrong. Certainly, only post low rez versions of your images, particularly on social media but it's likely most such platforms have a low maximum resolution anyway ( 1080 X 1080 on Instagram for example ). Regards the value of photography I'm inclined to suggest it's us as photographers that need to educate potential clients. The general public see photography as having little value because they have been brainwashed by the cellphone companies who constantly tell them their phone can produce professional looking photos. To them, the images look fine on their 5" screen next to photos taken using a " pro " camera. However advanced cellphone cameras get, they will never be as good as a professional camera. Any advances in technology that improve cellphone cameras will be scaled up and put into Pro cameras too. Add to this the larger sensor sizes and quality of the lenses availible to purpose made cameras and you can see it's a game cellphones will never win. Photographers need to educate, I'm not suggesting we go out and read spec sheets and nerd out over the features our cameras have that make them better than cellphones. I'm taking about how we can create images that cellphones can never take, using lighting, how we can capture moments in low light, how our skills as a photographer go beyond the use of a camera. We can edit images professionally, our images can be printed large with high degrees of colour accuracy and detail, that's how you sell your photography. You market both the technical and artistic quality you are able to provide. In closing, we need to stop blaming the rise of the smartphone for photography's decline. The smartphone has put photography in the hands of more people than ever before, people like taking photos! Expand on this and show them that the photos they love can be even better with our help....at a price of course 😋😊

    When I started in my career and right up to 2008, specialisation was the thing to do. Jack of all trades and a master of nine was always the mantra. I knew back then that you would need to become a master of all genres or at least enough to afford you a living. You are spot on. No one gives a shit about you as the photographer, only how cheap they can get you to sell or give your work away. Oh yes, I had a local videographer rip off my work. I saw my picture in a wedding magazine stolen by them. I find when you calmly tell them that your lawyer will be summoning them to court, their anus retracts and they take down the image. Telling them a letter from your lawyer will be dropping through their door shortly, has a good way of making them shit their pants.

    Did you see the CZcams video on Article 13 that has passed in Europe? It's all about copyright and if you have the power and ability to prove you have the rights or ownership. And reality is, there is so much photography out there, and information on how to do and be great at photography anyone can be good at it and do it for themselves. And with stock photos and videos, there is no reason the corporations need to hire photographers. If you don't hire a 40% manager who can link you to a 40% copyright agent, you have no copyright. You have the rights to your pics, but until you have copyright to the pic, you have no rights. So if you want the copyright, go through the 40% takers and pay for your rights.

    Even using low res photographs, there are apps that let you resize and upscale an image. Agree if you post any image online no matter what you do someone can steal it.

  • @Reyfox1
    @Reyfox1 Před 5 lety +1

    People don't care if they "steal" it. They pirate software and don't care and try and justify it. Downloading music for free, and downloading images, they don't care. They figure if it's on the net, it's free.
