I can feel that. I have the same (or worse) problem. The snap-down phase is mostly missing and it still looks more like a bad back flip, instead of a proper back handspring. It takes a lot of focused work to slowly correct this, I guess. Working hard on this ... I am not going places :-))

For some reason, before I did one particular one my gut was telling me not to do it. I pushed through anyways (because you can’t just quit in the middle of practice, now can you?) I ended up throwing backwards sideways, causing me to land on my neck and shoulder. It was so embarrassing, I was fighting back tears the whole rest of the practice. Haven’t done a back handspring since, and I was so scared to do any other advanced skills the rest of the practice.
