Former basketball player Rex Chapman revealed how his interracial relationship was received during his years at the University of Kentucky. Chapman, a White athlete, had a Black girlfriend, which was considered unusual in Kentucky during that time. He recalled how he was asked by a coach to keep his relationship private in order not to draw attention, a directive he found deeply troubling. Chapman deliberately defied the advice, hoping to provoke a public backlash that would raise the issue for debate, but the media avoided the topic. He also pointed out the double standard that existed, noting that his Black teammates were dating White girls on campus without any backlash. Chapman found the unwritten rules to be pure racism and struggled to compartmentalize his feelings between off-court emotional distress and on-court success. - Zábava

As a big ole fat white boy from a very racist family and community in Kentucky I married a girl who was not white and had to tell everyone GoodBye. 34 years later we are still together. Her family has been my family and have been great. So, i believe Rex. He is a not someone i like now for other reasons but he is right about the racism.

I've liked Rex Chapman for a long time. He's just a good dude. I never knew any of this stuff about his dating. Watching him as he talks about it makes me respect him even more. I'm about 3 years older than Rex, so I have seen plenty, but seeing this, at my age now, reminds me of a conversation that I had with my favorite aunt when she was in her late 70s. She expressed his you keep learning about life, even at her age then. At 60 ears of age, I am still learning life lessons. It feels good. Thanks, Rex.

A buddy of mine played football at Clemson in the mid 80s and they were so concerned about interracial dating there was a meeting..which the black players basically said there are no black girls to date. So the AD went to the booster club ( IPTAY) and they started funding 100% costs academic scholarships for black females from South Carolina high schools. 😮
