These cars are all so similar now (Audi RS6/7, M5, E63). I think the choice comes down to which logo do you want on the key in your pocket.

I'm surprised that I seem to be leaning towards the M5. I think it's because from what I've heard the E63 never really settles down (reviews always mention the firm ride, masses of road noise and general never tiring aggressive attitude). The apparent clear duality of the new M5 between crazy drift machine and quiet, comfortable executive cruiser seems to win it for me. Fanboys attack!
Why the British reviewers always pretend this car is so complicated to set it up? You basically set it up ONCE when you get the car and then you're good to go. And all you will need are the two M buttons which is absolutely genius.

would people stop complaining about the interior exhaust sound? those new cars are so luxurious and quiet that you can't hear the engine anymore, they need to pump in the sound for the driver to know how the engine is behaving

Trying to decide between this and an E63s and it's not easy. I love my current M3 but after driving the E63 I am tempted to switch. The noise was incredible. Really nice interior too. Can't wait to drive an M5 to help make up my mind.

But 16 thousand views on this video and they had a question of which would you have and I bet at least half if not more answered it and bmw won the pole 70% to merc 30% of which car would you have. So you clearly are blinded of what you think of this car. ....

I have a 2011 BMW 550I XDRIVE and it isn't obviously as sporty as an M5 but man does it handle great and ride so smooth. Plus 400hp and 450tq definitely helps the fun haha
1.m5 has always had subtle styling exterior wise
2.its never been known to be excess with the exhuast noise(altho if u search up how this sound imo sounds much better than the new e63 for the reason that it has more character)
3.the interior is well layed out and uses quality materials

rudy gay clearly then you base your opinion on what u hear from internet videos kiddio :) i love the e63s if i had to replace my car with this or e63s id prob go with the merc because this thing is way too similar to the old car. Trust me the 4.4 in the m5 has more character than the 4.0 in the merc. And by more character i mean the tone changes through the rev range for the bmw but for the merc is just flat same tone. Good for making pops around town the merc is but a lil dull sound up to redline.

Love the look of the M5. The front reminds me of the E39 , and I like that it doesnt look too aggressive like the E63

My mind started drifting when you went through all the modes, and i never came back. I'm sure it's a great car, but a M-car used to be exciting. I miss that.

Where was the filmed? Regarding the car, I just can't believe that with every new M car launched, I keep liking the AMG offering more. That really wasn't the case 10 or so years ago.
I don't know where 19" wheels are standard, but in the UK you get 20" wheels or 20" wheels. All you choose is two tone or black.
I am a massive BMW fan, and I am sure the new M5 is brilliant, but from what I have seen so far is the the E63 does everything the M5 can do but be more special, have bit more of a occasion. Ever since the e60 and e90 M cars the engines have been lacking in character and wow/star factor. These new engines are the sensible choice. That is not the M way! the 335 and 535 is all the engine you would ever need on paper. You used to get a M car because it was a bit mad/silly/insane, but at the same time was composed and handled well at the track. Now they just handle well at the track. just my 2 cents on where I think BMW have gone wrong.

Autocar, forget the Advertising revenues and get real. This is bloated heavyweight BMW with an 'M' badge on it.
It's a wonderful looking car and all those drive train modes are pretty cool if you ask me but I think the AMG must be more fun (especially with turbos inside the engine and the unique AMG sound).
If it had a N.A V12 or 10 I think it would have worked better.
But then I am not the one who drove it and it looks like the tester rather liked it !
I'd have this over the new (very tempting E63). Beneath all the systems, it seems the car has a wonderful balance to it, and it brings more enjoyment more of the time unlike the last M5.New E63 looks great (from the front) and sounds awesome, but i suspect is a little one dimensional. can't wait for a twin test.

It is all wheel drive, NOT four-wheel drive! There is a huge difference. This car will NOT go off road in the Colorado Rockies!
Too many fucking modes!! Why can’t the engineers just setup one mode. Get in, turn on, drive. Too many variables. Looks nice, sounds lame. Would probably still have the AMG purely on the basis of sound plus I think the interior is more impressive.

Just reading the comments section and my God some people are poor knowledge and choice of words the M division has dominated for the last three decades remember that guys even when Mercedes went all wheel drive and obviously Audi already had all-wheel drive already BMW was still pulling out crazy numbers with rear-wheel-drive 560 horsepower

I agree. Maybe I don't understand it completely, but it seems so synthetic. Like stick-on carbon fibre wrap.
My dad found a way to disable it in his F10 M5 and we noticed that the fake engine noise isn't very prominent in the first place, but I do agree it is annoying that it exists
how can a v8 sound fake? i kno the i8 has a fake exaust but this is as good as it gets in time where petrol engines may get replaced
mikeythebold tv honestly you'd be surprised. The insulation is really nice on the M5 and it blocks out a lot of road noise and exhaust, so the fake exhaust sounds amplify that exhaust slightly but really that engine and exhaust sound beautiful on their own
The current E63 also has fake engine noise pumped through the speakers...

AMG 63s sadly will slay the Bimmer. Too bad Bavaria lost their way trying to chase the female customer. My E39 M was simply the last best Saloon Sport Sedan.

It took me literally decades to be able to afford this car and now that I can, I hate it.
looks like a car you would get in a old "need for speed" fantasy game, with all thoose options and buttons!.. Just make a car that drives well? maximum 1 knob that says "race", would be enough

Thats because they dont have dual clutch to cope with 4wd and so much torque.
Silly options, after the first week of ownership and finding oneself round the menus, 90% of owners will just get in start the engine and drive in “Comfort” mode, in my humble opinion
